2006 Kia Sedona Packed With New Features

Kia took advice from its customers, according to Jim Weidman sales associate with a local Kia dealership, and completely redesigned the 2006 Kia Sedona.

The minivan now offers more room, more safety features and even more horsepower. "Kia paid attention to the competitive market and what the public desired," Weidman said. "Its research and development team really stepped it up."

Exterior changes give the Sedona a much sleeker look. A touch longer and wider, the minivan still has a decrease in weight.

"It's more fuel efficient, more aerodynamic and overall just a prettier vehicle," Weidman said.

With a 3.8-liter V-6 under the hood, the Sedona now offers 244 horsepower. The lively engine makes the minivan light on its feet. The vehicle never feels bulky or awkward, and merging is surprisingly easy. There's no need to play catch up once you've hit the highway. Other fun-to-drive features include the sportmatic transmission. The system is pragmatic for towing purposes as the Sedona can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

Traction control and electronic stability control systems work to provide a sturdier, safer ride.

"The technology makes the car drive and handle safely and comfortably," Weidman said.

The Sedona is available in two trims -- the EX and the LX. Safety features such as brake assist, dual front advanced air bags and full- length side curtain air bags are standard across the board.

Dual sliding doors make it convenient for passengers to get in and out. A safety feature will not allow the doors to slide back if the gas cap is open or if the window is rolled down.

"That way just in case you have a kid or a dog hanging their head out of the window the door won't hurt them," Weidman said.

The power rear door automatically opens and closes from the key fob, making it easier to load cargo when your hands are full. The wide center console up front folds down if more space is needed between the front seats, and there are numerous small storage spaces tucked within the dash. Another available feature practical for traveling families is a back-seat mirror.

"It lets the driver have a view of the rear and see who hit who first," Weidman said. "You can keep an eye on things without taking your eyes off the road."

Sedona's abundance of cupholders, 10 to be exact, are also functional when the spacious cabin is loaded with passengers. With an available 141.5 cubic feet of cargo space, the minivan is prepped for storage. Seats can fold flat into the floor, and the front row can be removed if needed.

Luxury touches available include leather, a DVD entertainment package, heated front seats and adjustable pedals that can be programmed for two drivers.

Little touches like the Sedona's power seats are what make the vehicle stand out.

"Unlike others in its market, the Sedona has passenger seat power controls mounted up on the door like the driver's side does," Weidman said. "It's easier than having to put your hand on the side of the seat and not see the controls."

Ranging in price from $25,000 to $31,000, the revamped Sedona continues to move ahead.

"Now competition will have to keep up with us," Weidman said.
