Twin-turbo first for Peugeot's 607

Take a closer look at this Peugeot 607 and you'll see that it's a world first.

peugeot 607 You will need to peer under the bonnet to see what all the fuss is about because this is the world's first twin-turbo diesel engine in a four-cylinder car.

The 2.2-litre HDi turbodiesel unit produces 170bhp and 277lb ft of torque yet emits only 170g/k of carbon dioxide.

Only available in Executive trim, the £26,495 HDi 170 model manages a combined economy of 44.1mpg.

The engine works by only using one of the turbochargers at low revs, with the second coming into play at 2,600rpm.

The two turbos then work in tandem between 2,600- and 3,200rpm, which is where the engine is expected to spend most of its operating time.

The new 2.2 HDi 170 engine will also be used in the 407 and 807 models.
