Chery Rolls Out Potential U.S. Bound Concepts
BEIJING — Chery Automobile, which hopes to begin selling cars in North America as soon as 2008, will unveil a slate of new concepts this weekend at the Beijing auto show, including at least two that could eventually come to the U.S.
The most intriguing design is the Fengyun II Coupe, a two-door concept slated for production in 2008-'09; there could eventually be a convertible version. It is different from the Pininfarina-designed M14 retractable hardtop that Chery displayed at last year's Shanghai show.
Chery also is taking the wraps off its first-ever hybrid, the A5 ISG, a compact sedan powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The gasoline engine supposedly only kicks in at speeds higher than 25 mph.
A derivation of Chery's compact Tiggo crossover, the Tiggo5, will make its debut in Beijing
Designed in China, new eight-passenger minivan, the V2 have three rows of seats, dual airbags, antilock brakes and a CD player.
