Suzuki Cervo Is 10th New Minicar on the Market

It's looking like a bumper year for the kei, or minicar, category in Japan, where the 10th new model in the segment has just been introduced by the country's biggest minicar manufacturer, Suzuki. The redesigned Cervo heats up the race in the 2 million-strong segment

Toyota's Daihatsu subsidiary and Suzuki together control more than 60 percent of this segment, Bloomberg News reports. In turn, minicars make up 35 percent of total new-car sales in Japan. So any new model in this class is very important.

The Cervo nameplate has been around for close to 30 years and mainly used on Japanese versions of the Alto. This newest Cervo is very sporty-looking. The top version is powered by a three-cylinder turbocharged 50-horsepower 660cc engine, which is quite adequate for a 134-inch, 1,785-pound pocket rocket. Inside, semi-bucket seats, a four-speed auto gearbox, Bluetooth capability and plenty of room await the young women who are the target audience for the kei segment.
