Acura Aims for "Mysterious Presence" With Sedan

LOS ANGELES — Acura rolled out its Advanced Sedan Concept, which is almost 7 inches wider than its current RL flagship, at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.

2007 Acura RLBut the Honda luxury brand didn't say what kind of engine would be tucked under the pronounced hood of the concept, which hints at its future flagship direction.

The '07 Acura RL is powered by a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter SOHC V6. Honda has yet to insert a V8 into its lineup, although the proportions of the Advanced Sedan Concept seem to lend themselves to a bigger powertrain. The concept is 79.5 inches wide, compared with the 72.7-inch width of the current RL.

The concept is outfitted with 22-inch front and 23-inch rear tires mounted on custom billet-machined, polished aluminum wheels. Brake discs and calipers accent the wheels, and large ducts direct air to the components. The concept's roof is made of tinted glass.

The striking exterior features include a five-sided grille made of polished aluminum, accented by a cut crystal Acura emblem. Narrow headlights double as air intakes and are positioned low on the bumper.

"The Advanced Sedan Concept illustrates Acura's commitment to modern design and cutting-edge style," said John Mendel, senior vice-president of auto operations. "With our advanced design team taking a significant role in shaping future vehicle design, we can expect upcoming products to reflect this progressive, forward-thinking styling."
