The Millionth Mini Rolls off the Line

OXFORD, England — The one-millionth Mini rolled off the production line at Plant Oxford in England late last week as sales records continue to be shattered. Mini owner BMW Group says sales reached 7,854 in March alone, a new record for the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S. In 2005, more than 200,000 Minis were sold.

Millionth MiniMillionth Mini 2Number 1,000,000 was a customer-ordered pepper-white Mini Cooper S with almond green roof and a special "million" graphic that extends from the roof to the hood. It has almond green leather seats, steering wheel and gearshift knob to match.

The little cars will be even more omnipresent soon, with the new Mini One and Mini Cooper D coming out this month, and the Mini Clubman being launched later this year.

The Plant Oxford facility builds as many as 700 Minis per day, working around the clock with nearly 5,000 employees. Almost 80 percent are built for export to 80 countries outside the U.K., BMW says.
