2007 L.A. Auto Show Volkswagen Unveils Cleanest Jetta TDI Clean Diesel Engine
LOS ANGELES — Volkswagen rolled with the low-emissions juggernaut at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, unveiling a new "cleanest diesel ever" that will be an option on its 2009 Jetta sedan and SportWagen. VW said the engine will give 30 percent better "real-world fuel economy" compared with the same model equipped with a gasoline engine.
The 16-valve 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI engine makes 140 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. It has a common-rail fuel supply and high-pressure injectors, as well as a nitrous oxide storage catalyst that reduces NOx emissions as much as 90 percent.
The new diesel will be available on '09 Jetta models in the third quarter of 2008, VW announced. No prices were released.
