Renault Koleos - officially announced
The Renault Koleos has been 10 months in waiting while the french carmaker has been perfecting the look, lavishly decorating the interior, and awaiting an engine that will be up for the job. Fast forward to today and we discover that Renault will finally unveil their new SUV at the forthcoming Geneva Auto Show next month. Going by the name of Koleos, it will be the European version of a Nissan aided design developed in a joint venture with Samsung in Korea.
The Koleos' car-length (4.52m) and shape will remain identical to its Korean cousin, even if from the aspect of the photos there seems to be a sort of stylistic imbalance: the alloy rims look too small for the wheel arches whilst the view from the back leaves some doubt as to the width to height proportions. The engine line-up will include two power-steps of the 2.0L turbodiesel engine, at 150 hp (320 Nm) and 175 hp (350 Nm) and the petrol 2.5L which will have an output of up to 170 hp.
The ‘all mode’ 4-wheel drive system already seen in the Nissan X-Trail, allows 100% traction on the front wheels in normal driving conditions, variable to a 50-50 ratio when necessary. The ‘hill descent control’ system and a ground elevation of 206mm (188mm for the diesel engines) should allow the Koleos to go on excursions into the wilderness without the fear of misadventures.
