The 6 Series-based AC Schnitzer Tension

AACHEN, Germany — BMW tuner AC Schnitzer has unveiled a roadgoing edition of the Tension, last year's study of a hotted-up 6 Series.

bmw m6 schnitzerbmw m6 schnitzer 2 Schnitzer says it is building a limited run of 50 cars and will convert any 6 Series from the base 630i to the M6. The car's styling is inspired by the Tension concept that was displayed at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Work starts under the hood, where Schnitzer replaces the stock BMW block with its 5.11 engine. Not quite as potent as the full-house M6 engine, the modified Schnitzer power plant still delivers an ample 411 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.

Schnitzer then upgrades the brakes and suspension and fits 20-inch wheels and Z-rated tires.

The focal point of the Tension, of course, is the aerodynamic body kit. A new hood houses an oversize air intake and flows down to a front skirt and wing with additional cooling. Side skirts house air ducts to cool the rear brakes. A rear skirt integrates a diffuser and shrouds the stainless-steel dual exhaust system.

A striking two-tone paint scheme is available in alpine white and anthracite metallic, with other color combinations available on request.

The cabin can be trimmed in carbon fiber, black anodized aluminum and other materials
