Nissan SUVs Hit by Ignition Snag

TOKYO — Nissan Motor has announced the recall of more than 130,000 vehicles worldwide to fix a problem with its "intelligent" ignition keys.

The affected vehicles are X-Trail and Muranos built between August 2004 and July 2006, as well as 10,000 Maximas sold in North America.

Of those recalled, some 80,000 are Muranos sold in North America, Nissan said. Some 10,000 Maxima sedans are also being recalled for the problem in North America. There have been no reports of injuries or accidents as a result of the problem, according to an Associated Press report.

The problem involves the Nissan "intelligent" key system and could lead to the engine's starting even when the ignition is not on, if the driver moves the steering wheel.
