2008 Kia Rio5 What’s New

Redesigned for 2006 along with its four-door companion, the subcompact Rio5 continues as one of the least expensive cars sold in the U.S.

Available in an LX and a sporty SX model, the Rio5 sports a good-sized wagon body, with good leg and head room up front and enough passenger room in the back for medium-sized kids. A fairly large cargo area tucks beneath the hatchback.

2008 Kia Rio5 Under the hood, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with continuously variable valve timing delivers 110 horsepower. It can be teamed with either a five-speed manual gearbox, or a four-speed automatic. Power rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel-disc brakes are standard, as are six airbags, including side, curtain and dual front airbags. Anti-lock brakes are optional.

The LX version has a good list of standard features, like a CD stereo and 60/40 split rear seats. It also offers a Power Package that includes power locks, mirrors, and windows, keyless entry, and heated mirrors. The SX version gets revised interior trim, fog lights and a spoiler.

For 2008 the Rio SX gets an auxiliary port for audio players, new cupholders, a new shift knob and new gauges. Fuel economy for the new model year hits 25/35 mpg for the automatic, 27/32 mpg for manual shift cars.
