Seoul Auto Show: Ssangyong Wz Sedan

SEOUL, S. Korea — Ssangyong rolled out a replacement for its decade-old "executive" Chairman sedan at the Seoul auto show. The car is so far known only by its vowel-less code name, Wz.

Ssangyong Wz SedanThe Korean automaker, which is controlled by the Chinese SAIC company, used the mid-1990s Mercedes-Benz E-Class as the basis for the Chairman, which will now retire. Ssangyong has an agreement on engine sourcing with Mercedes-Benz. Although the segment is virtually unknown outside Korea, all domestic carmakers here are present in the "executive" market segment.

The new sedan is more sporty and less unusual-looking than the current version of the Chairman, which was last face-lifted in 2004. There's no word on engine options, but the car will be filled with high-end technological features such as adaptive cruise control, parking assist and a lane-departure warning system.
