2008 Subaru Impreza (WRX) to go after VW GTI

Here's another future Subaru Photoshop rendering, this time the next-generation Impreza WRX-STI. Again, as with the previously posted Outback rendering, don't take this as absolute fact, but more as a good indicator of what Subaru might be thinking.
subaru impreza UK's Auto Express is reporting the next WRX has set its sight on the VW GTI, as the target vehicle of choice. They're reporting 3-and 5-door hatches, and no sedans. Now keep in mind this is a UK car magazine, and in the UK and Europe, hatches are the hot ticket. Whether we see those configurations here, I have no idea.

subaru impreza 2 Well, actually I do have an idea, as I've heard from someone who has seen pictures of the US-spec '08 Impreza, and he said a sedan is still on the table. He also said it would have the same 105.1" wheelbase as the current Legacy, but will be no longer than the current Impreza. That means less front and rear overhangs. It also means more interior room—a much desired feature. While I have not heard anything regarding suspensions, my guess it will also use the multilink rear suspension from the Legacy.

This vehicle is reported to debut at the next Tokyo car show in the fall of 2007.

New look for PT Cruiser Cabrio

Chrysler has worked out how to stick the steering wheel on the right-hand side of the PT Cruiser Cabrio, which goes on sale in the UK at the end of April.

Crysler cruiser The four-seater retains its roll-over bar design, while providing seating for four with reasonable headroom with the roof up.

The Cabrio gains the styling changes of the latest PT Cruiser hatch, including the droopy-eyed headlights.

There's only one engine choice for the PT Cruiser Cabrio and it's a 2.4-litre petrol engine with 141bhp. Choose the five-speed manual for £16,650 or the four-speed auto at £17,470.

Wild new Mustang unleashed

Is this the best-looking Mustang of the modern bunch?
We reckon so, and it's got some serious endorsement from an American racing legend.
The Parnelli Jones Mustang is a limited edition model from US tuning, racing and supercar company Saleen.

mustangmustang 2mustang 3mustang 4mustang 5Looking every inch the menacing muscle car, the Parnelli Jones Mustang comes in a unique Grabber Orange colour with black striping.

There's also a power hump in the bonnet, rear spoiler and slatted rear window cover on matt black to give that essential 1970s feel.

Running on 19in alloy wheels with broad tyres front and rear, the Parnelli Jones looks the business.

Inside, there's some special seat trimming and a Saleen/Parnelli Jones steering wheel boss.

But this ain't no cosmetic makeover. Under the bonnet, Saleen has brought its knowledge to bear to pump up the 302ci (5.0-litre) V8's grunt up to 370bhp and 370lb ft.

A new exhaust finishes off the engine tweakery and has a seriously addictive V8 rumble.

Only 500 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustangs will be built and prices in the States are expected to start around $55,000 (£33,000), with delivery this September.

Parnelli Jones may sound like a delicatessen in Swansea to some Brit ears, but he is one of the US's most successful racers and steered a Mustang to victory in the 1970 Trans Am championship, the equivalent of winning the British Touring Car Championship nowadays.

2006 Aston Martin DB9 Sports Pack

From July, Aston Martin will offer the option of a factory-fitted "Sports Pack" specification for the DB9 Coupe, combining revised suspension characteristics with a new alloy wheel design to give subtly different driving dynamics.

Aston Martin DB9The new five-spoke forged aluminium alloy wheels are lighter than the standard wheels, the springs and front anti-roll bar are modified and the ride height lowered.

Taking the DB9’s VH architecture as its foundation and retuning some of its key components, the DB9 Sports Pack offers an even more focussed driving experience, with improvements to both high-speed body control and steering response. That means a DB9 Coupe specifically for the enthusiastic driver with a high level of driving skill, who likes to drive quickly, safely and with precision.

The first key to the sharper dynamic balance is a significant reduction in ‘unsprung’ mass which indirectly allows the suspension to react more quickly to inputs such as bumps and cornering forces - resulting in improved grip, steering response, body control and ride quality.

With the DB9 Sports Pack, each five-spoke light alloy wheel gives an unsprung weight saving of more than 1kg, with a small but significant additional saving from the use of titanium wheel nuts. In total, that equates to more than five per cent reduction in unsprung weight on each corner of the car. The new, lighter 19-inch wheels are the same size as the standard wheel and use the same Bridgestone tyre.

The DB9 Sports Pack’s spring rates are increased by 68 per cent at the front of the car and 64 per cent at the rear. The front anti-roll bar is modified, and the dampers are revised to support the new spring and anti-roll bar characteristics. Together, the changes optimise body control and front-end grip without compromising ride quality or adding weight. The ride height is reduced by 6mm, lowering the car’s centre of gravity and further reducing body roll while leaving ample ground clearance and backed up by modified bump stops.

The composite undertray is also replaced, by a load-bearing aluminium panel that performs the same function in managing underbody airflow while adding further structural stiffness, to resist larger lateral loads fed into the front of the car by the uprated front springs and anti-roll bar.

The cumulative effect is significantly improved dynamic response, and especially steering feel - making the DB9 feel lighter, more positive on turn-in, more agile and more involving for the enthusiastic driver. Body control is especially enhanced during high speed manoeuvres, giving the DB9 a more neutral handling feel.

Aston Martin Sales & Marketing Director, Bill Donnelly, says: “This optional Sports Pack will offer driving enthusiasts the opportunity to tailor their DB9 Coupe to deliver an even more rewarding dynamic experience. The Sports Pack offers another addition to the Aston Martin range and provides customers with an even greater choice and the ability to further personalise their DB9.”

Spy photo: Honda CR-V

With the RDX already out in the open, we figured it wouldn't be long before the next-generation Honda CR-V appeared.

honda cr-v A sharp-eyed photographer in Australia managed to snag one of the best shots yet of the upcoming compact SUV as it drove along side its RDX cousin. It looks slightly larger than the current model, but most speculation points to the continuation of four-cylinder power only. With rivals like the 269 horsepower Toyota RAV4, Honda could be taking a chance of getting left behind. Then again, with gas prices the way they are maybe Honda has the better plan.

Lexus fine-tunes its IS220d

Rather than just slapping on a Sport badge and body kit, Lexus has been tinkering with the IS220d to make it a sharper drive.

lexus is220dlexus is220d 2 The big change is a tweak to the rear axle ratio to give more urgent response in any gear. The result is 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds, which is curiously the same as the standard model's.

There's the expected sports suspension and 18in alloy wheels, while the interior gains metal-effect trim, sports pedals and suede-effect upholstery.

The Lexus IS220d is on sale now for £26,925.

2006 Ferrari 599 GTB

With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.

Ferrari 599 GTBFerrari 599 GTB 2Ferrari 599 GTB 3Ferrari 599 GTB 4Ferrari 599 GTB 5 Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari's Vice General Manager will announce today at the Detroit Motor Show the birth of the latest model developed in Maranello.

The new car is a concentration of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupй. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.

The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar - which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.

Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.

The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 559 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.

This new model is the symbol of Ferrari's production - the V12 berlinetta - and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.

The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which - together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.

The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Jag XJ's fuel feat

"You'll go far, my son, especially if you happen to be driving a Jaguar XJ."

jaguar xj Not usually noted for its frugal habits, the Jag saloon has just been driven for 1,000 miles on a single tank of fuel.

The original idea was for a five-strong team of drivers from Jaguar to drive from John O'Groats to Lands End on a single fill.

When the team completed the 840-mile journey, they realised there was still a bit of fuel left, so they carried on to top 1,000 miles.

A total of 1000.2 miles was shown on the odometer before the tank ran dry, with an overall economy of 53.5mpg.

BMW 3 Series Coupe - official data and pictures

Time for the official press release and some moro photos of the new BMW 3 Series Coupe E92. An interesting thing: the new coupe, besides being the first BMW with a turbocharged gasoline engine in a long while, will also be the first BMW coupe to offer the xDrive 4 wheel drive system.

bmw 3bmw 3 2bmw 3 3bmw 3 4Elegance at Its Best: The new BMW 3 Series Coupe.
• Coupe unique in its design and interior.
• Debut: straight-six turbocharged power unit developing 225 kW/306 bhp.
• Intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system featured for the first time in a coupe.
• Lightweight steel body: stronger and lighter.
• Bi-xenon headlights embellished by corona rings for daytime use.
• Exclusive interior: lights package and wide range of individual features.
• Automatic belt feed as an innovative comfort feature.

Individual style now comes in a new expression: the BMW 3 Series Coupe. Offering a brand-new look of all-round elegance, BMW’s two-door coupé sets a new benchmark in terms of elegant looks, value, and comfort.

And at the same time it significantly raises the standard of driving dynamics, the new BMW 3 Series Coupe introducing a truly exceptional power unit now making its debut in the world market: the first straight-six complete with a twin turbocharger, high-precision fuel injection, and an all-aluminium crankcase.

Through its supreme potential alone, this 225 kW/306 hp power unit in the BMW 335i Coupe ensures a significant increase in torque and acceleration, while keeping fuel economy on the same low level as before.

The other variants of the new BMW 3 Series Coupe entering the market in September 2006 – the BMW 330i Coupe (200 kW/272 hp), the BMW 325i Coupe (160 kW/218 hp), and the BMW 330d Coupe (170 kW/231 hp) – again reflect the principle of BMW Efficient Dynamics in every respect. Further versions of the new two-door model with six- and four-cylinder power units will round off the model range at a later point in time.

As an alternative to its six-speed manual gearbox, the BMW 3 Series Coupe will also be available with BMW’s new six-speed automatic transmission. Keeping gearshift times extremely short, the new automatic transmission ensures an even more spontaneous response to the gas pedal, thus enhancing not only driving comfort, but also driving dynamics.

Toyota FJ Cruiser rant-'n-rave

"While at the NY auto show, I had an opportunity to really check out the new Toyota FJ Cruiser. I have sort of a love-hate relationship with this new off-roader from Toyota. On one hand I love the fact that the hardcore off-road customer is now getting an opportunity to buy some new state-of-art equipment from one of the world's leading off-road vehicle manufacturers. On the other hand Toyota did some incredibly dumb things with this vehicle."

toyota fj cruiser" I have felt for some time that the current craze for crossovers, while certainly good, has put the traditional off-road-oriented SUV on the back burner in terms of importance. Many say there is no need for a real SUV, as they never go off road anyway. Well, tell that to people living in Nevada, the Rockies, and in other outback areas of this very large and still mostly unpaved country. So I was happy to see the new-and improved Xterra, Hummer and this all-new FJ—and that they seem to be selling well. That's the good news...

The bad news, as far as the FJ is: There's just too much "dumb styling," and not enough "smart design." I pity and FJ driver when he/she has to look over their shoulder to see if there are any vehicles coming up on their right. The absolutely gargantuan C-pillar on this vehicle, and porthole-sized rear quarter window, coupled with the huge rear spare tire must have set an all-time low record for poor rearward visibility. Not only is it bad, it's borderline dangerous. That's problem numero uno.

A second problem is this vehicle requires premium gas! You know it's going to get lousy mileage, so why rub salt into the wound by requiring premium? Besides that, premium gas may be harder to find if you happen to be using this vehicle as it was intended—like out in the boonies... Speaking of boonies: Why is the full-time 4x4 transfer case only available with a manual transmission? The Land Cruiser, Sequoia and 4Runner offer full-time 4WD or selectable full-time 4WD automatics, so why not also the FJ?

Then there's the front shoulder harnesses that are anchored to the rear suicide doors. That means those doors can't be opened with the shoulder belts in use—which leads me to wonder about the sanity of these suicide door setups, and how they compare to traditional 4-door setups. Well folks, I've tried getting in and out of the FJ's rear several times; give me a real 4-door vehicle (like the Xterra) any day of the week!

I see way too many styling (and marketing!) concessions here in a vehicle that's supposed to be all about function. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I'm sure it makes sense to Toyota, as these things will fly off the showroom floor like hotcakes. All I can say Mr./Ms. SUV buyer: check it out carefully first, as you will have to live with your purchase for some time. "

Jeep at the NY auto show

Jeep goes all out at the NY auto show. Their display is just incredible. Think Camp Jeep, but on a smaller scale. Visitors can take a ride on various Jeep models over an off-road course with trained drivers. The lines for these rides are incredibly long, and you can expect to wait an hour or more before getting your chance to ride.

jeep "However, I got lucky: As I was walking by, with my Edmunds buddy AJ (aka juice), this Jeep guy came up to us and asked for a volunteer. Without a blink I stepped forward, and was quickly ushered into the front passenger seat of the Grand Cherokee you see pictured above. The Jeep folks wanted to demonstrate how well the GC handled this kind of terrain; you know, the kind of stuff you might encounter on a trip to the mall. Hey, it got me a free T-shirt...

I got a chance to see the new Compass (hate it), the new Patriot (love it), and the new Wrangler Unlimited (kinda like it). The Compass, in my opinion, is the wrong path for Jeep to follow. It will do nothing but water-down the Jeep off-road and brand image. The Patriot, on the other hand, will (also) address the cute-ute market, and will likely not hurt the Jeep off-road or brand image.

It's the first truly modern Jeep with a fully independent suspension. I'm hoping—that if it succeeds in the market—that future "real Jeeps" will build upon the engineering ideas presented on this vehicle. "

VW TSi engines launched

Pens at the ready and pay attention; there's a new acronym to add to your vocabulary.
As with so many abbreviations, the latest comes from Volkswagen and is TSi.

vw tsi And just like VW's FSi moniker, there's no direct explanation of what TSi stands for, but if we tell you it could well be 'turbo supercharger injection', you should begin to get the drift.

VW has launched a new range of engines that use a supercharger to boost power at low revs, while a turbocharger comes into play at higher revs.

The 1.4-litre TSi engine comes in two versions, with either 138bhp or 168bhp.

Buyers can order this new engine in the Golf now, which only comes in sporty GT trim, which starts at £15,995.

Subaru of America, Inc. today unveiled the 2007 Impreza WRX STI Limited model at the New York International Auto Show. The new edition of the road-conquering Impreza WRX STI packages creates greater comfort and refinement with subtler exterior styling, but does not sacrifice the performance of this street legend.

The WRX STI Limited will be available in the fall in a limited run of 800 numbered units, 400 in Satin White Pearl and 400 in Urban Gray Metallic.

Clues for new Honda CRV

While many of the cars at the New York Auto Show are purely for the US market, the Acura RDX points the way for the next Honda CRV.

Acura is Honda's posher brand in the States, and the RDX is aimed at pushing the Honda brand closer to the BMW X3.

A new all-aluminium 2.3-litre engine with VTEC variable valve timing produces 240bhp and 260lb ft of torque, and performance is said to be better than an X3 3.0i's. This engine comes with a paddle-shift five-speed gearbox called SportShift.

For Europe, a 2.0-litre petrol engine and 2.2 turbodiesel will also feature, while a continuously variable transmission will be offered alongside the five-speed manual gearbox.

Part-time four-wheel drive remains, with power sent to the front wheels most of the time.

The RDX is set to go on sale in the US in early 2008, with sales in Europe around the same time.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a 116-inch wheelbase, achieved by adding 20.6 inches to the standard all-new 2007 Wrangler's 95.4-inch wheelbase. The additional length allows for a larger rear seat that features three seating positions, as well as more hip, leg and shoulder room. In addition, Wrangler Unlimited offers nearly triple the rear cargo space.

Offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited utilizes the same five-link solid-axle suspension configuration as the standard 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited also retains Wrangler's coveted removable full-framed or half doors, exposed hinges, fold-down windshield and innovative removable and convertible tops.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be offered in three models: Wrangler Unlimited X, Sahara and Rubicon, and will feature hundreds of different top, door and windshield combinations. In addition, nine exterior colors and available 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels will be offered.

Even More Space, Comfort and Versatility

While maintaining its legendary off-road capability, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a spacious interior that takes comfort and convenience to new lengths. Its 102.9 cu. ft. of total interior space provides room for five adult passengers and delivers more cargo storage and seating configurations than ever before.

"No other vehicle in the world can replicate the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's unique combination of best-in-class off-road capability, open-air fun and everyday convenience and versatility," said Mike Donoughe, Vice President – Body-on-frame Product Team. "Whether it's used as a daily driver or for extreme rock crawling, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has the ability to turn mountains into mole hills, while comfortably carrying passengers and gear."

Providing easy entry and exit, all four doors on the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited are front-hinged, with inside and outside handles, and windows that travel all the way down. Rear doors feature exposed forged hinges, open a full 90 degrees, and provide a 26.5-inch wide opening.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited offers rear-seat passengers a 33-inch front-to-rear couple distance and 37.2 inches of legroom. Rear seats split 60/40, and easily fold flat, creating 83 cu. ft. of total storage volume.

With rear seats in the upright position, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features 46.4 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the rear seat, providing more cargo space than the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2006 Hummer H3 and 2006 Nissan Xterra. A new lockable underfloor storage area secures personal items out of sight.

Identical to the standard all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features an all-new instrument panel, center stack and high-back front bucket seats. The front-seat area provides 54.6 cu. ft. of space, providing 5.1 inches more shoulder room and 4.6 inches more hip room compared to 2006 Jeep Wrangler models.

Even More Open-air Fun for Even More Passengers

An all-new, three-piece modular hardtop — Jeep's Freedom Top TM — features three removable panels for a variety of open-air driving configurations. The left- and right-front passenger panels may be stored inside the vehicle, while the rear section can remain in place or be removed separately.

"Whether removing one of the Freedom Top panels or flipping back the Sunrider soft top, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited provides owners the flexibility to conveniently experience open-air driving in less than 30 seconds," said Donoughe.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited also features a standard Sunrider TM soft top, which includes a "sun roof" feature as well as the full top-down option. This soft top provides a second open-air option by folding the soft top back completely over the first- and second-row occupants, creating a 55x60-inch sun roof opening — an opening 30 inches longer than the standard 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sunrider top.

Even More Legendary Off-road Capability

Even with the additional 20.6-inch wheelbase length, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited achieves off-road leadership among all SUVs in its class. Superior ground clearance combined with short front and rear overhangs enable Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to navigate the most rigorous off-road trails.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a best-in-class approach angle of 44.4 degrees, breakover angle of 20.8 degrees, and best-in-class 40.5 degree departure angle — all more than worthy of negotiating extreme obstacles. Additionally, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited offers an available electronic-disconnecting front stabilizer bar — Active Sway Bar System (ASBS) — delivering a 28-percent increase in wheel travel.

"A long list of proven 4x4 hardware — essential components among off-road enthusiasts — underscores the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's off-road capabilities," said Donoughe. "From beefy axles and heavy-duty transfer cases with low gear ratios to locking differentials, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has more mettle than any other vehicle, and more than enough to conquer a variety of off-road challenges, right out of the box."

The highly capable underpinnings of Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X and Sahara models include an enhanced Dana 30 front axle and Dana 44 rear axle — each featuring larger pinion shafts, pinion bearings and axle joints for increased durability compared to its predecessor. Engineered to take on the most demanding trails, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon model features enhanced heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles, which also feature larger pinion shafts, pinion bearings and axle joints.

Providing armor for the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's underbody components are three skid plates — protecting the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan. Two-wheel-drive Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models feature one skid plate to protect the fuel tank.

Four-wheel-drive Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X and Sahara models feature the second-generation Command-Trac® NV241, part-time, two-speed transfer case, featuring a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. An optional Trac-Lok® limited-slip rear differential provides extra torque and grip during low-traction situations.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon model features an Off-Road Rock-Trac TM NV241 two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio, as well as electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Active Sway Bar System and 32-inch B.F. Goodrich Off-road tires.

Even More On-road Refinement

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features an even more refined on-road experience courtesy of its 116-inch wheelbase, all-new 100-percent stiffer frame, 50-percent stiffer body and refined five-link coil suspension. In addition, new steering and suspension geometry provides precise ride and handling characteristics, while new sound-deadening techniques reduce cabin noise by more than 20 percent.

Ride balance in the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited achieves minimal body lean when cornering and braking due to the five-link coil suspension's new upper and lower control arms and full-width forged-steel track bars. Also, lower suspension spring rates provide a softer, more comfortable on-road ride.

Standard on the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X model, low-pressure twin-tube shock absorbers are tuned to match softer coil rates, achieving optimum balance between advanced on-road handling and rugged off-road capability. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara and Rubicon models feature standard high-pressure monotube shocks, utilizing Low Speed Tunable (LST) valve technology.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's new recirculating-ball steering configuration features a robust cross-car steering linkage system, providing the stiffest possible steering linkage in a solid-axle vehicle. A decreased scrub radius significantly reduces steering wheel inputs, such as bump steer from uneven road surfaces.

Standard on the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which aids the driver in maintaining vehicle directional stability in severe driving maneuvers on any type of surface. ESP features three modes — "full on," "full off" and "partial on."

Even More Powerful and Fuel-efficient Engine

New on all 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models is a 3.8-liter overhead valve V-6 engine, with 205 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque — producing more horsepower and torque than its predecessor with improved fuel economy. A standard six-speed manual transmission or an available four-speed automatic transmission is offered.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. and an optional towing package that includes a 4.10 axle ratio, class III trailer hitch and two front tow hooks.

For key diesel markets outside North America, a diesel engine will also be available — for the first time in a Jeep Wrangler — with a five-speed manual transmission.

Even More Authentic Jeep Design

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited takes on a radical four-door open-air design with Jeep-signature design cues — classic round headlamps, seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel flares and exposed forged hinges merged with Wrangler Unlimited's longer wheelbase, front-hinged rear doors, exposed B-pillar and larger sport bar — creating a stance that commands attention like no other Wrangler in its 65-year history.

"The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited extends Jeep design cues into a four-door, open-air form that is unmistakably Jeep Wrangler and unmistakably new," said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President – Design. "The Wrangler Unlimited's appearance is simple and pure, yet signals a new design approach to this familiar icon. Every angle reflects its boldly expanded posture and adventurous spirit, constructed in a head-turning silhouette that is authentic Jeep."

Several Jeep concept vehicles — the 1997 Jeep Dakar, 2004 Jeep Rescue and 2005 Jeep Gladiator — that explored the combination of added space and utility with Wrangler's rugged off-road character, inspired the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's design.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's 20.6-inch longer wheelbase with full-framed or half rear doors is encompassed by taut lines, sharp angles and planar surfaces, appearing not so much styled as constructed. The result is a design that is simple, strong and purpose-built, giving Wrangler Unlimited a military quality — upright and rugged, and imposing without being intimidating.

The interior design of the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited draws from the exterior, with a straightforward, purposeful, yet contemporary theme that delivers a new level of comfort, spaciousness and convenience. Featuring a Slate Gray or Khaki interior, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited utilizes new grain patterns delivering a technical appearance with geometric themes, complementing its rugged exterior.

The instrument panel features an all-new analog instrument cluster, four round airflow registers, six speakers and a 32-percent-larger locking glove box. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's tweeter speakers are located on top of the instrument panel and face each opposing occupant for optimal left- and right-channel clarity.

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's center stack provides easy-to-reach controls for audio system, HVAC, power window and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) switches. An available 368-watt Alpine stereo with optional navigation system is located at the top of the center stack for better visibility. Radios feature an auxiliary jack for portable MP3 compatibility.
Offering easy-to-use, comprehensive driving directions, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's available navigation system provides real-time guidance on local, city and highway roads throughout the United States and Canada. In addition, a trail feature leaves behind a virtual breadcrumb trail that shows where the vehicle has driven off-road, enabling the driver to retrace the route and return to the trailhead.

Even More Safety and Security Features

Like all Jeep vehicles, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is designed to improve handling and accident avoidance, and provide protection. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited includes the highest level of safety features ever offered in the vehicle's history in order to provide customers the ability to safely "go anywhere, do anything."

Following are available safety and security features in the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited:

Advanced Multi-stage Air Bag System: This system inflates with a force appropriate to the severity of an impact. It includes the occupant classification system (OCS)

Anti-lock-braking System: Electronic sensors help detect impending wheel lockup. The standard ABS system offers improved steering control under extreme braking and/or slippery conditions

Brake Assist: The vehicle senses a panic brake condition and applies maximum braking power, providing the shortest possible stopping distance

Child Seat Anchor System: Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) make it easier to install compatible aftermarket child seats in the rear seat

Electronic Roll Mitigation: A system that observes and monitors the vehicle speed and steering rate to estimate the potential for a rollover situation. If necessary, the engine torque is reduced and a short burst of full braking is applied to the appropriate wheel to immediately limit lateral force, providing improved roll stability

Electronic Stability Program (ESP): ESP aids the driver in maintaining vehicle directional stability, providing oversteer and understeer control to maintain vehicle behavior on various road surfaces. This standard feature has three settings, allowing the driver more control over the vehicle during spirited driving

Energy-absorbing Steering Column: Manual-adjust collapsing steering column includes two hydroformed coaxial tubes that move relative to each other, which allows the column to move forward and provide more energy absorption during an impact

Occupant Classification System (OCS): Measures conditions for activation or deactivation of the passenger-side front air bag based upon the weight of the occupant
Pretensioners: During an impact, the impact sensors initiate front seat belt pretensioners to immediately remove slack from seat belts, which reduces the forward movement of the occupant's head and torso

Seat-mounted Side Air Bags: Available seat-mounted side air bags extend protection to driver and front passenger

Side-impact Door Beams: Door beams are made of high-strength steel mounted in the vehicle's doors to help prevent passenger compartment intrusion

Lexus launches LS600 hybrid

Hot on the heels of the Lexus LS's unveiling at the Geneva show, New York sees the arrival of the LS600.

The LS600 is the hybrid version of Lexus's luxury saloon and is set to topple the Mercedes S-Class' claim to be the most economical car in the sector.

A V8 engine coupled to a 200bhp electric motor will give the LS600 strong performance, while Lexus insiders say the car will be capable of around 35mpg.

The hybrid combination will also deliver lower carbon dioxide emissions than diesel-engined rivals from Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes.

The LS goes on sale in the UK at the end of 2006 with prices starting around £50,000, while the LS600 is expected in the spring of 2007 with a price tag of around £55,000.

2007 Ford Mustang GT "California Special"

Ever since Ford announced it was going to build a production version of the Shelby GT500 Concept, enthusiasts have been abuzz with speculation about what other specialty Mustangs were in the works. Would Ford bring back the Boss? Could they be contemplating another Mach 1? How about another Bullitt? Their wait is now over: While the competition scrambles once again to play catch-up to Ford, Mustang momentum continues to grow with the introduction of the uniquely styled, limited-edition 2007 Mustang GT/CS – or “California Special.”

2007 Ford Mustang2007 Ford Mustang 22007 Ford Mustang 3The Mustang GT/California Special arrives in late summer as a full, stand-alone option package on the 2007 Mustang. Much like the 1968 GT/CS that offered Mustang buyers more aggressive styling that was “Inspired by the Shelby GT,” the new California Special also draws some cues from the 2007 Shelby. What’s more, it offers the kind of limited-production exclusivity that has made the original California Special such a big favorite with Mustang collectors over the years.

The new Mustang has been a runaway sales success ever since it bolted out of the starting gate 18 months ago. Today, Ford's Mustang remains the hottest selling car in America. It's no secret that the upcoming Shelby GT500 has driven performance-hungry enthusiasts to Ford dealerships across the country in search of information on purchasing the most powerful factory Mustang ever produced. And all indications are that the GT500 will be yet another Mustang sales success. But the Mustang has always been about choice and meeting the customer's needs – and Ford Motor Company knows that there are customers who don't require the ultimate performance Mustang, yet still desire something special beyond the Mustang GT. The 2007 California Special fits the bill.

“ As a Mustang enthusiast and SVTOA Chapter Director, I’ve long known about the original California Special and the mystique that surrounds it, so when I was given the chance to work on the program, I jumped on it," said Mark Wilson, who works in Car Project Management at Ford’s Vehicle Personalization group, and is the program manager for the California Special. Mark is a true Mustang fanatic, he races is 1993 Cobra R and 2004 Mustang in the American V-8 Super Car Series. “I believe the 2007 GT/CS is true to the original car’s heritage, while also setting itself apart from the base Mustang GT with styling cues that clearly differentiate it from any angle.”

The GT/CS was originally a limited-production 1968 Mustang coupe fitted with Shelby Mustang dress-up pieces and sold only though dealerships in California. It was available with any engine, and either with or without the GT option. The 2007 California Special can be ordered as either a coupe or convertible and will be available though Ford dealerships across the country.

The 2007 version has an aggressive front fascia with an integrated chin spoiler that sits 1.5 inches lower than the Mustang GT to provide a larger air opening for increased cooling performance. Familiar “California Special” style bodyside racing stripes run from the front fenders across the doors and fade-out at the end of the door.

Out back, a unique rear fascia styled with less “tuck-in” features a lower air-diffuser design that is similar to the rear of the 2007 Shelby GT500 – itself inspired by the rear diffuser on the Ford GT supercar. As an added touch, the dual exhaust system on the new Mustang GT/CS sports bright, rolled tips for a cleaner, more refined appearance. The car will also come standard with the Mustang GT’s optional 18-inch polished aluminum wheels and performance tires. (Those seeking further differentiation can even add a hood scoop by ordering the GT Appearance Package.)

“We’ve taken the spirit behind the original Cal Special – a regional package that personalized the Mustang for the West Coast buyer – and created a more aggressive, customized Mustang for customers everywhere,” said Joe Siler, Design Manager, Ford Vehicle Personalization. “We think the result has all of the high-style flair of the original.”

Exclusive touches carry over to the inside of the new California Special, as well. Starting with the array of bright-polished and satin-aluminum finished items in the Interior Upgrade Package (which is required to order a Mustang GT/CS), the cabin comes dressed in either Dove or Parchment environments, including black leather seats with unique Cal Special Dove or Parchment “GT Leather” inserts. Plus, matching front floormats include special Mustang badging to further distinguish the GT/CS interior.

There’s even more style under the hood of the new California Special: The Mustang GT’s 300-horsepower 3-valve 4.6-liter V-8 gets treated to a unique engine cover that gives the engine compartment the kind of dressed-up look that you'd only expect to see at custom car show. (For those who may wish their GT/CS had a little more “go” along with all the extra “show,” the Ford Racing Performance Group offers several exciting parts packages to provide some additional kick. One popular choice is the Ford Racing Power Pack, which includes a 90mm Cold Air kit, a performance Muffler Kit and the special Ford Racing engine calibration – good for about 20 additional horsepower at the rear wheels. Visit www.fordracingparts.com for details.)

The 2007 Mustang GT/CS goes on sale later this summer. The GT Cal Special option package adds $1,895 to the price of a Mustang GT (available with either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission) with the requisite Premium and Interior Upgrade packages. Exterior color choices are limited to Redfire Metallic, Performance White, Vista Blue Metallic and Black. Valencia Yellow is to be added later in the model run. Production estimates have not been finalized, but the 2007 California Special is expected to surpass the sales total of its predecessor of nearly 40 years ago, when 4,325 copies of the GT/CS were sold.

Advertisements touting the ‘68 GT/CS exclaimed that “ California made it happen.” When it comes to Mustangs, Ford Motor Company makes special editions “happen” because of America's ongoing love affair with its favorite sporty car – Mustang. After the rebirth of the Mustang and Mustang GT for 2005, the Pony Package for 2006, plus the Shelby GT500 and now the California Special for 2007, Mustang excitement continues unbridled for yet another model year. And if Mustang’s storied past is any indication, you can expect even more special breeds in the future.

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car

Two racing icons will unite when Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France winner, drives the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 pace car to lead the field to the start of the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 28, 2006. For a record 17th time, a Chevy will pace the race, and it’s the eighth time for a Corvette to be leading the pack.

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z062006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 22006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 3 Neither Armstrong nor the Corvette is a stranger to elite endurance racing. Armstrong won seven consecutive Tour de France titles, and the Corvette Z06 pace car he’ll be driving is based on the C6.R Corvette racer that has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four out of the past five years.
"We’re proud that this year’s Indianapolis 500 will showcase the new 505-horsepower Corvette Z06 and honored that it will be driven by another racing icon—Lance Armstrong," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet General Manager. "The 2006 Corvette Z06 is infused with technology from our own endurance racer—the four-time Le Mans winning C6.R Corvette race car—and having it play such a key role at this important event acknowledges the significance the vehicle has played in American culture for more than 50 years."

As the No. 1-ranked cyclist in the world in 1996, Armstrong competed as a member of the U.S. Cycling Team in the Summer Olympic Games. While seemingly at the top of his game, he was literally forced off his bike because of cancer. He formed the Lance Armstrong Foundation within months of his diagnosis to help others with their cancer struggles.

Armstrong then staged an incredible comeback, winning his first Tour de France title in 1999. After seven consecutive victories, Armstrong retired following the 2005 race and continues to be a leader and activist on behalf of cancer survivors around the world. The Lance Armstrong Foundation has become among the most influential organizations of its kind and provides practical information and tools people need to battle cancer and live strong through education, advocacy, public health programs and research grants.

“The Hulman-George Family and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway staff are honored that Lance Armstrong will pace the field for the start of the 90th Running of the Indianapolis 500,” said Joie Chitwood, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president and chief operating officer. “Lance is a sports icon, and it's only fitting that he'll be driving another American icon on Race Day as he takes the wheel of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. It’s also gratifying to continue the long relationship between the Indianapolis 500 and Chevrolet with such an exciting, performance-bred vehicle as the Corvette Z06.”

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been the site of many memorable events since the facility opened in 1909. Similarly, Chevrolet has a rich heritage in racing that dates to company co-founder and namesake Louis Chevrolet, a gifted engineer and talented race car driver who competed in the Indianapolis 500 four times.

The 2006 Corvette Z06 that will serve as the Indy 500 pace car is virtually identical to the models available today through local Chevrolet dealerships. Because the production Corvette is so racing-ready with 505 horsepower capable of 198 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, sophisticated aerodynamics, a suspension that can handle 1.01 Gs in cornering situations and large 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels that are a foot wide in the rear, the only changes made to prepare it for this year’s role were the addition of strobe lights and racing safety gear.

Like race cars, the duties of a pace car can be long and strenuous. During the last four Indy 500 races, for example, the Chevy pace vehicles led the field for a combined 186 laps (465 miles) of the total 800 race laps (2,000 miles). Even during green-flag race conditions, the pace cars patiently run at idle ready for action at a moment’s notice.

With the Indianapolis 500 being such a classic American race during Memorial Day Weekend and with Chevy’s “An American Revolution” campaign, the Corvette Z06 pace car features an Americana red, white and blue theme. It displays an abstract U.S. flag pattern with “Victory Red” and “Cobalt Blue” ribbons flowing across the car on a base of “Arctic White” with white stars flanking each side. The 2006 Indy 500 logo is on each door, and the Chevy red racing Bowtie appears at the top of the hood.

The race will be broadcast live on May 28 by ABC Sports and the IMS Radio Network. The green flag drops at 1 p.m. EDT. Tickets are available for the 2006 Indianapolis 500. For information, log on to www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com or call the IMS office at 800-822-INDY or 317-492-6700.

Chevrolet has paced 16 previous Indianapolis 500 races, more than any other brand:

2004 - Corvette convertible

Seven-seat Outlander on its way

Mitsubishi has ditched the current Outlander's awkward looks for a svelte styling in the new model.

2007 mitsubishi outlander2007 mitsubishi outlander 22007 mitsubishi outlander 3 Apart from its new-found good looks, which Mitsubishi hopes will increase sales from the current model's doldrums, the big news is seven seats.

The third row of seats follows the fashion for two individual chairs that fold flat into the boot floor.

An updated version of the present 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine will be used, along with a five-speed automatic gearbox.

There are no plans to bring the US-spec 3.0 V6 model to the UK.

No diesel is planned at present, but part-time four-wheel remains, with power being sent to the front wheels in normal driving conditions.

Expect to see the handsome new Outlander in dealerships from the start of 2007.

The New 2007 Audi A4 and S4 Cabriolet

An enjoyable and sporty driving experience, superior and complex technology, classic and exciting styling, and luxury that even satisfies the demands made in the luxury class: Audi is presenting the new generation of a car that has become a classic – the A4 and S4 Cabriolet.

audi 1audi 2audi 3audi 4audi 5 The advent of a new model generation is evident at first glance: the open-top four-seater now has the single-frame grille that typifies the brand. The newly styled rear lights add a further visual touch. The car’s taut styling, clear surfaces and tension-packed shoulder line extending along the entire body are characteristic features of the A4/S4 Cabriolet.

The car’s technology lives up to the promise made by its new styling: the A4 Cabriolet is being launched with two engines which are being offered for the Audi A4 Cabriolet for the very first time. FSI and turbo FSI technology represent the most advanced state of the art for gasoline engines. The sporty yet comfortable dynamic suspension converts the power delivered by these units into sheer driving pleasure – on every bend, on every mile of the journey.

Innovative and highly sophisticated technologies are an integral part of practically all vehicle areas and components: the adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights are proof of this, as indeed is quattro permanent four-wheel drive.

The quality of materials and workmanship in the interior are of a standard that need not fear comparison with the luxury class. The architecture of the driver’s area, especially the cockpit – a perfect synthesis of ergonomics, function and design – is pioneering.

The design

Self-assured in appearance: the striking single-frame grille and newly styled clear-glass headlights with their curving, emotional line give the new Audi A4 Cabriolet a completely new face. The trapezoidal shape of the single-frame grille is continued in the more prominent contours of the engine hood.

The front end shows visible evidence of the new generation of the S4 Cabriolet. Like the S4 sedan, the Cabriolet features the S-specific grid pattern in the singleframe grille. The bumpers with large air inlets, the aluminium-look casings for the exterior mirrors, the redesigned rear lights and the four oval tailpipes are the distinguishing visual features of the S4 Cabriolet.

Taut lines and clear surfaces that hold no secrets, coupled with a tension-packed shoulder line extending along the entire length of the body, produce a look that is simultaneously powerful and elegant. The rear end is distinguished by newly designed lights of clear-glass appearance which also emphasize the Cabriolet’s premium quality from behind. The new rear diffuser underscores the car’s sports character.

The modern and innovatively designed interior fits in with the progressive look of the car’s exterior styling. The new-generation steering wheels provide an entirely new visual touch inside the A4/S4 Cabriolet. Their characteristic element is the airbag cover with its single-frame design. Door sill trims with aluminum inserts and numerous aluminum inlays are a standard feature of all new A4 and S4 Cabriolet versions.

Inside, the S4 Cabriolet differs in appearance from its A4 brothers. The instrument cluster has the grey dials that are characteristic of S models and special needles. Power adjustable sports seats with leather upholstery further differentiate the S4 Cabriolet.

Inlays in Walnut or Fine grain birch wood grey can be ordered. These are attributes that also emphasize the special exclusiveness and elegance of the interior of current A4 models.

Almost all convertibles look good with the top down, but only a few are equally as attractive with the top up. The Audi A4 Cabriolet cuts an extremely fine figure both open and closed. The fully automatic, electro-hydraulic roof can be operated when driving at a speed of up to 19 mph – an advantageous feature that is not to be underestimated in the city, for example, where it is not always possible to stop suddenly. Thanks to its good thermal insulation and glass rear window, the Audi A4/S4 Cabriolet can also be used without restriction in the winter.

As an option Audi also offers an acoustic roof, which goes even further in the direction of insulation. By using new fabrics with a greater material density, the noise level inside the cabin is reduced further, virtually matching that of the A4 sedan, even at highway speeds.

Engines and transmissions

Audi is now also offering two highly modern engines with FSI gasoline direct injection for the new A4 Cabriolet: the 3.2 FSI V6 and the turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI. These combine high performance with a spontaneous response to every movement of the accelerator pedal and a peak-torque range at a high level.

The 3.2 FSI V6 produces 255 hp at 6500 rpm, and 243 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3250 rpm. About 90 percent of the engines peak torque is available from 1900-5900 rpm, allowing for strong acceleration in any gear, at any speed.

The 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder was the first engine to combine turbocharging and direct gasoline injection when it was initially launched. Producing 200 hp from 5100-6000 rpm, and 207 ft.-lbs. of torque between 1800-5000 rpm, the 2.0 TFSI is a marvel of power and efficiency.

The Audi S4 Cabriolet is propelled by a 340 hp eight-cylinder engine. Its maximum power output is reached at 7,000 rpm. The 4.2-litre engine delivers a hefty 302 ft. lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm. Thanks to such a superior power flow from the substantial displacement, this naturally aspirated engine acquires an air of supreme confidence.

All three engines have been named to the Ward’s 10 Best Engines list in the last two years, a further testament to their advanced design and abilities.

These three engines deliver their power to the road either via the front wheels or by means of quattro permanent four-wheel drive. Customers can choose from a continuously variable Multitronic transmission (2.0 TFSI FrontTrak), a six-speed manual with a 40:60 front to rear torque split (S4), and a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission (standard 2.0TFSI quattro and 3.2, option on S4).

The chassis

The set-up of the dynamic suspension system, with four-link front and self-tracking trapezoidal-link rear suspension, has been completely modified and numerous new components added. Audi’s chassis engineers have made extensive changes in the area of elastokinematics, and to the spring and shock absorber settings.

The steering has been completely modified to give the driver greater precision, but also better feedback from the road when cruising. In connection with this, the engineers adopted several mountings and the dimensions of the front and rear shock absorbers from the Audi A6; the rear trapezoidal links and the front track rods originate from the S4 sedan.

These modifications add up to a significantly higher level of agility and precise handling, combined with first-class ride comfort – all qualities which benefit drivers of the Audi A4 Cabriolet. This also applies to the brakes, the dimension and consequently performance of which have been adapted to suit the potential of the new engines.

Equipment and trim

The Audi A4/S4 Cabriolets offers a standard equipment list that sets a benchmark in the midsize class. Every new A4 Cabriolet, for example, comes with an electric roof and dual-zone automatic climate control, nine-speaker audio system, power one-touch windows, driver information display, cruise control, large ski sack, and numerous other features you’d expect to find in a luxury convertible.

Safety is standard, not optional

The Audi A4/S4 Cabriolet’s A-posts are reinforced very effectively by means of high-strength tubes and their optimised structure – an indispensable source of extra safety if the car should roll over.

Sills with an optimised thickness and cross-section boost the occupant cell's strength and optimise occupant protection. High-strength tubes are also used in the seat structure, as a means of protecting the occupants in the event of a lateral collision.

The doors in particular have to be designed with safety in mind. In conjunction with structural reinforcements in the sills and a strengthening cross-member below the rear seat, special impact absorbing beams in the doors help ensure a high standard of safety. At the car's rear end, the double rear panel improves the rigidity of the body.

The comprehensive safety package contains seat belts with belt-force limiter and belt tensioner for all passengers, together with full-size front and side airbags. The side airbags integrated into the front seats are designed to protect the head and thorax.

If the car should roll over, a roll-over protection system in the double rear bulkhead adds to the occupants' safety. In this case, two protective bars, controlled by sensors, are triggered behind the rear passengers within milliseconds. Together with the extremely rigid windscreen frame, they help to preserve survival space for all occupants if the car turns over.

The standard electronic stabilization program ESP 8.0 with hydraulic brake assist provides for maximum active safety.

All seats are equipped with three-point inertia-reel belts (the front belts have belt-force limiters and belt tensioners, plus a seat belt reminder for the driver) and head restraints. The safety equipment specification also includes a driver’s airbag activated in two stages and side airbags.

Warranty

The 2007 Audi A4 and S4 Cabriolets come with an outstanding combination of warranties and protection. This top-rated package includes:

• Four-year/50,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty

• 12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation

• 24-hour Roadside Assistance for four years provided by Road America

2006 Laboratorio BEBI Quercianella

Laboratorio BEBI is the latest Swedish (and maybe the only real Swedish car company now that Koeniggsegg is Norwegian). Inspired by Giotto Bizzarrini, our business idea is to develop the general supercar-concept onto a new, and as we see it, more interesting path. Instead of just adding more horsepower for better performance, we reduce weight. It is a bigger and more interesting challenge and it brings a lot of benefits. A light car is a much nicer drive, requires less horsepower to excel, and a light car means a leaner price tag and a greener image.

bebi Quercianellabebi Quercianella 2bebi Quercianella 3bebi Quercianella 4This idea is now developed in to the Quercianella. With only half the weight of any current supercar, the same or better performance (except top speed, top speed is for dinner conversations), great looks (we think anyway), we will offer an intelligent driving tool for half the price of most supercars.
The name Quercianella is a tribute to our good friend and mentor Giotto Bizzarrini, the man behind our first conceptual pre prototipo. 2006 GDT Speedster

The GDT Speedster is an exciting, one-of-a-kind, high performance sports car designed and fabricated by a team of automotive professionals. It has been hand crafted and is intended for sale to a discriminating collector who appreciates beautiful automotive styling, excellent engineering and fine craftsmanship.

2006 GDT Speedster2006 GDT Speedster 22006 GDT Speedster 320062006 GDT Speedster 4
RATIONALE
The GDT Speedster was designed and built by a team of experienced automotive engineers, stylists and a body-surfacing expert who love cars and who wanted to do a complete vehicle from scratch without the bureaucratic encumbrances of a large corporation. The project was initiated as an exercise in engineering and styling with “no holds barred”. It was also considered to be an engineering challenge because many projects like this one are started and very few are completed. In addition, the project was intended to be completed at a “reasonable” cost when compared to OEM produced one off show cars.

The team selected the vehicle’s name, GDT Speedster. It stands for Gene Dickirson Team Speedster. A speedster is the type of vehicle that typically has no top, no side windows and a raked back windshield intended for fun driving in good weather.

THE VEHICLE
Exterior

The GDT Speedster features a beautiful body designed by stylists Craig Sandvig and Larry Ronzi. The theme is fresh and it is intended to retain its freshness for many years to come. The eye catching windshield angle is only 19 degrees from the horizontal and utilizes a header less steel support structure. The sculptured side panels are dramatic in the way their surfaces “converge” just behind the upper edges of the doors.
The highlight of the rear view of the vehicle is the fully visible, polished stainless steel/ aluminum exhaust system. Just behind the gleaming tail pipes is the aluminum intensive rear suspension with axel half shafts which are fascinating to watch when the vehicle is in motion. The front of the speedster has a polished aluminum grill “floating” within a handsome opening. The hood is hinged at the front and when opened provides full access to the engine compartment. Similarly, the rear deck is hinged at the rear and when opened provides access to a small storage compartment behind the seats. The rear deck contains a polished aluminum fuel filler door with the team logo laser etched into the surface.
The body is painted Torch Red.

Interior

The interior is trimmed in Light Oak leather. The instrument panel is custom styled and fabricated. It is attractive to look at and easy to use. The top of the instrument panel is trimmed in leather. The instrument cluster features custom built gauges with the team logo printed on the faces of the speedometer and the tachometer. A unique PRNDL gauge is used to indicate the transmission gear selected. The PRNDL gauge is located in the central portion of the instrument panel next to the clock. Only four switches are needed on the instrument panel to operate the electrical system. To the left of the steering column is a black rocker switch for ignition ON-OFF with a green LED to indicate ON. To the left of the ignition switch is a red rocker for START. To the right of the column is a black rocker switch for lighting. Next to the light switch is a black rocker for HEATER-OFF-A/C. The three-way heater A/C switch has red and blue LED’s to indicate the mode selected. A foot operated headlamp dimmer switch is used. The brake and accelerator pedals are trimmed with polished stainless steel bezels.
The custom designed gear selector knob has leather covering the tapered portion of the polished aluminum body. The leather covered central console sweeps into the rear deck and the team logo is embroidered into the upper face. The seats are custom built for the GDT Speedster by Cerullo Performance Seating. The steering wheel is custom built by Lecarra and the polished aluminum horn button has the team logo laser etched into the surface.

Frame & Underbody

The GDT Speedster frame is very strong. It is fabricated from rectangular steel tubing with a wall thickness of 3.1 mm (.12 inches). The main side rails are 51 mm wide and 152 mm high (2 inches x 6 inches). The under body and dash panel are fabricated from steel sheet fully welded to the frame rails. All welding was done by aerospace/military certified welders.

Drive Train

The engine, transmission, differential, front and rear suspension, steering and brakes are from a Chevrolet Corvette.

Wheels & Tires

Fikse built the beautiful; three piece forged and polished aluminum wheels especially for the GDT Speedster. The front wheels are 18 inches in diameter and 10.5 inches wide and the rear wheels are 18 inches x 12 inches. The Michelin Pilot Sport tires are size 285/35x18 on the front and 335/30x18 on the rear.

2007 Audi TT

A cult car, an icon – the Audi TT, launched in the autumn of 1998 – took the sports coupй segment by storm and sharpened the brand profile. Now the second generation of this successful model is making its debut. The new TT Coupe is even more dynamic than its predecessor– in terms of its design, its drivetrain, and its running gear.

2007 audi TT2007 audi TT 22007 audi TT 32007 audi TT 4 The very architecture of the new Audi TT Coupe embodies the style, stability and power of a pure driving machine. The bullish stance of the base body and the low, narrow styling of the greenhouse together form a sculpture of simple, unfussy lines. The Audi design team has lovingly adopted and enhanced the visual code – the motif of circles and domes – of the predecessor model. The new TT appears more stretched, and even at a standstill seems to be striving to move forward; taut panels emphasise the impression of dynamic movement. The new TT is 137 mm longer than its predecessor at 4,178 mm, and 78 mm wider at 1,842 mm.

The body is constructed in the ASF Space Frame design developed by Audi and consists of aluminium and steel. This is the first time that it has combined different materials alongside each other. 69 percent of the superstructure is made of aluminium. The steel components making up the remaining 31 percent are to be found at the rear end, so as to ensure balanced distribution of the axle loads. To improve downforce, a spoiler is extended from the tailgate when the vehicle reaches a speed of 120 km/h.

The new Audi TT, like its predecessor, is initially available as a 2 + 2-seater coupй; the separate roadster model is scheduled for later launch. The basic luggage capacity of the easily accessible boot, under its large-format lid, is 290 litres. This capacity can be increased to 700 litres by folding down the rear seat backs. The sports seats provide outstanding side restraint. There is a choice of three different leathers for the covers.

The cockpit is oriented strictly to the driver and is perfectly ergonomic in design. It embodies the classic circles motif of the TT in a number of ways, such as in the three centre air vents.

Two powerful petrol engines are available to power the car. The 2.0l turbocharged four-cylinder TFSI unit featuring FSI direct injection develops 147 kW (200 bhp). With a six-speed manual gearbox, it accelerates the TT to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 240 km/h. The sonorous-sounding, naturally aspirated 3.2-litre V6 engine develops 184 kW (250 bhp), accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically governed).

Both engines are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. On request they can be combined with the dynamic S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Whereas the four-cylinder engine comes with front-wheel drive, the V6 distributes its power across both axles by way of the quattro permanent four-wheel drive system – an exclusive technology feature in the sports coupй segment.

The Audi dynamic suspension was newly developed and tuned for the TT Coupe. One of its hallmarks is its self-steering behaviour right up to the handling limits, which ranges from neutral to light understeer. This sporty orientation produces driving fun, agility and supreme handling characteristics.

The track enlargement, with larger wheels ranging from 16 to 19 inches in size, and extensive changes in the area of elastokinematics were key areas of the developers’ work. The new multi-link rear suspension ensures optimum driving dynamics at a sports car level.

The high-tech Audi magnetic ride damper system is available as an option. In this system, tiny magnetic particles circulate in the oil inside the shock absorbers. When a voltage is applied to them, they alter the damping characteristics within milliseconds. This adaptive system simultaneously ensures high levels of ride comfort and thoroughly sporty dynamism, according to the specific driving scenario and the preferences of the driver.

The standard features of the new Audi TT include an automatic air conditioning system and a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel. The latter is not only entirely suitable for the sports car but also makes it easier to get in and out. The air vents, steering wheel spokes and many of the controls are finished in an aluminium look.

With regard to options, customers can choose from a variety of high-tech solutions, including the adaptive light dynamic cornering light system and the Audi parking system which aids parking.

The new TT marks the premiere of a new generation of audio systems. It is characterised by state-of-the-art reception and playback technology and intuitive user control. Six so-called softkeys control a variety of functions depending on which menu is selected. The chorus radio system with single CD drive comes as standard. A Bluetooth interface is available for mobile phones. The telephone function can be operated via the MMI, the multifunction steering wheel and by speech control. The operator control for the optional navigation system takes its cues from the exemplary MMI system familiar from the Audi A6, A8 and Q7 model series.

2006 Noble M15

Welcome to a new dawn for Noble Automotive, the launch of the all new M15.

This machine represents a whole new philosophy and takes the core values of dynamic excellence, lightweight engineering, value-for-money and blistering performance to a whole new level of comfort, refinement and everyday usability. There's even room for luggage!

noble m15noble m15 2noble m15 3noble m15 4noble m15 5 At a cost of Ј74,950 the M15 sits well above the other cars in the Noble range. With 455 bhp and 455lb ft of torque, it's also the most powerful production car to leave the Leicestershire factory, capable of hitting 60 mph from standstill in less than 3.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 185 mph. It is, therefore, a credible and more exclusive alternative to other supercars costing well in excess of Ј100,000.

Despite its destructive power, the M15 remains one of the least intimidating supercars on the markets thanks to prodigious levels of grip and a forgiving chassis. After all, it's still a Noble, but it's the most spectacular machine to emerge from Barwell and may prove the definitive British supercar.

Welcome to M15, the ultimate expression of British intelligence.

Exterior Design

The M15 boasts immense road presence, yet is only 181 mm longer and 31mm wider than the M12 at 4270mm and 1905mm respectively. It remains a lithe machine at slightly more than 1200kg, lightweight engineering is a part of Noble's DNA .

Yet despite the M15's compact dimensions, the M15 is a spacious, luxurious car with room for luggage, astonishing crash protection and a chassis which is significantly stiffer than any Noble before it. This is a luxurious sportscar with dragon-slaying performance as standard.

It's stylish too, from any angle there's a feature to hold your gaze. The aggressive curve of the wings at the front, coupled with the Boomerang-style headlight fairings will announce it's arrival in dramatic style.

That low-slung stance, muscular haunches, and huge air intakes define the seductive side profile and the fastback rear proves you don't need ugly drag-inducing to achieve downforce

Noble never puts form before aerodynamic function and a more efficient shape helps the M15 to its estimated top speed of 185 mph. More importantly, this and the huge diffuser which has proven itself in battle on the company race car, help plant the rear to the ground at speed.

This is the most refined, the most complete Noble to date, and with production strictly limited, the stunning shape will retain its impact for a long time to come.

Drivetrain and Performance

The mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V6 used in the M15 is the most powerful engine ever fitted to a road going Noble and and has been developed over 7 years and millions of testing miles.

A sublime combination of low-end driveability and top end power, the latest version of Noble's engine delivers 455lb ft of torque at 4850 rpm and 455bhp at 6800rpm. 96 per cent of this power is available from 5200rpm, making the M15 an effortlessly quick car.

On road performance is everything you would expect from a company that already produces one of the fastest accelerating production cars in the world. The leap from 0-60 mph arrives in an incredible 3.3 seconds , from standstill to 100 mph takes less than 8 and this car will keep going all the way to 185mph.

The M15 scores big over other models with its effortless acceleration beyond 130mph, improved significantly due to a cleaner body shape and more efficient intercooler and turbocharger performance.

The drivetrain is installed longitudinally for the first time in a Noble, increasing cooling and turbo performance dramatically Weight distribution has also improved over the existing model to 42:58 per cent, front:rear, due to the engine and gearbox assembly being moved forward by 300mm.

Since the M15 is the most versatile Noble ever produced, it had been designed to take higher mileages with less maintenance than the M12. Here, the in-line drivetrain configuration comes into its own again, with excellent accessibility around the engine and ancillaries, reducing servicing and maintenance downtime.

At launch, the new A6 allroad quattro will offer the option of either a 2.7 TDI engine with 180PS and 380Nm of torque or a 3.0 TDI with 233PS and 450Nm, both of which will initially be available exclusively in conjunction with six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. These advanced engines feature the latest common rail fuel injection system with piezo injectors, and minimise pollution through the use of diesel particulate filters.

A six-speed manual version of the A6 allroad 3.0 TDI quattro is expected to become available in late summer 2006, followed in early 2007 by new petrol derivatives.

The A6 allroad quattro 2.7 TDI is capable of accelerating from rest to 62mph in 9.3 seconds, can reach a 134mph maximum speed and yet also manages to cover up to 32.5mpg (combined cycle). Its larger relative reduces the 0-62mph time to 7.8 seconds and increases the maximum speed to 143mph, yet almost matches the 2.7 TDI for fuel economy, offering the potential for up to 32.1mpg (combined cycle).

Advanced height adjustable air suspension
When the going gets rough the four-link front and trapezoidal link rear suspension comes into its own, its weight pared back through the extensive use of aluminium and its compliance, agility and refinement maximised by the addition of electronically controlled adaptive air springs.

The adaptive system offers five modes, the on-road options ranging from Dynamic, which lowers the body to a ground clearance of 125mm for minimal drag at motorway speeds, to Comfort, which positions the car 140mm above ground level for optimum cruising refinement. The allroad mode for off-road use increases ground clearance to 175mm, and for particularly tricky manoeuvres at speeds of up to 22mph a Lift mode is also available giving total clearance of 185mm.

To achieve the best possible performance away from the Tarmac, the new A6 allroad quattro features a specially revised version of the Audi Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) with off-road settings. Pressing the ESP button once activates an off-road mode that primes the system to intervene in a manner which better suits the lower speeds and the different hazards this kind of driving generally entails.

Customers wanting to take the off-road capabilities of the new A6 allroad quattro to even greater extremes can opt at extra cost for purpose-built all-terrain tyres and a reinforced engine under-guard.

In contrast to the uncompromising exterior of the new A6 allroad quattro, the cabin is a haven of comfort, but even here the fact that this A6 variant may have to work harder than the others hasn’t been forgotten. Special monoPur upholstery combining cloth with a special hard-wearing man-made fibre has been designed to look good while at the same time taking the knocks without tarnishing for years to come. Also evident inside is the full complement of luxuries and in-car technology, including the acclaimed Multi Media Interface (MMI) system that centrally controls many of the car’s functions, plus a vast load bay providing up to 1,660 litres of capacity.

2006 Lotus Elise "Load Lugga"

Lotus announces first Elise-based pickup.
lotus eliseLotus Cars is delighted to announce that its first light commercial vehicle rolls off the production line today.

The Lotus Elise 'Load Lugga' is an Elise-derived flatbed that seeks to secure a slice of the ever-growing worldwide market for sportscar-derived pickup trucks.

Utilising a Briggs and Stratton pull-start diesel engine, uniquely supercharged by Lotus's own engineers, the Elise 'Load Lugga' is the first Lotus to marry advanced 4-wheel drive technology with the Lotus design philosophy of 'performance through lightweight'. A useful 5kg payload, together with an optional towing hitch offering a further 10kg of load-hauling capacity, ensures the new Lotus will be equally at home carrying a small bag of sugar as an expanded polystyrene surfboard.

With carbon fibre roof rails and perforated aluminium bull bars ensuring the new Elise derivative looks the part without compromising performance, hopes are high that 0-60mph acceleration is less than 3 seconds, and will have flatbed fans reaching for their chequebooks.

An active payload management system, linked to the engine's oil pressure control module, optimises ride and handling round even the sharpest bend, while big chunky tyres increase ground clearance to an all-terrain-conquering 4 inches.

Trevor Houghton-Berry, Lotus Head of Commercial Operations looked to the future 'The Elise 'Load Lugga' is our first move into the lucrative LCV market and certainly lives up to the Lotus philosophy of 'change the rules'.

We like trucking and we like to truck!'

Mark O'Shaughnessy, Lotus USA Sales and Marketing Director commented, 'We can no longer ignore Lotus's big opportunity in the pickup market - we want a slice of the action and are gunning for a 0.0026% market share this year and 0.0027% next. The Elise 'Load Lugga' will be known as the F1.50 stateside and we are set to take the market by storm. 200 Lotus Elise F1.50's in the first year? Bring them on.........'
