The automobile manufacturer Carlsson who is specialised on Mercedes Benz, extends its co-operation with the leather lifestyle brand Etienne Aigner AG and will exhibit the world premiere of the Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS “Eau Rouge“ Dark Edition at the Zьrich Auto Show (Auto Zьrich Car Show, 13th - 16th November 2008, exhibition stand SAHLI & FREI AG - hall 2, stand C 01). Produced in small series, the luxury coupй is available with either a V12 Bi-Turbo with 705 hp or a second power level with 756 hp and 1,150 Nm.

The newly designed car front dominates the exceptional appearance. Both the front skirt with a front spoiler made of solid carbon as well as the car paint which renders appealing contrasts in two colours are eye-catchers. The special line Dark Edition of Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS “Eau Rouge“ which is produced in small series and limited to only ten cars, is exclusively available in the double-coloured combination obsidian black metallic with Himalaya-gray. Shaded Bi-Xenon headlights with cone-shaped lights and the radiator grill with the jumping Carlsson horse perfect the front appearance.

Moreover, the sides are dominated by the three-part forged rims in 21”. The glazed finished surface of the light alloy rims manufactured in forged technology, offers an absolutely masterful appearance.

The Carlsson sport exhaust system renders more output and an especially powerful sound. The rear section of the Carlsson Aigner CK65 is dominated by four end pipes in Carlsson design which impress by their sportive, earthy sound. In comparison to the serial exhaust system, the exhaust back pressure and pipe guide are optimised. Therewith, Carlsson achieves an improved torque and a higher performance. The new Carlson aerodynamics kit once again skilfully underlines the elegant silhouette of the basis model. But the Carlsson Aigner CK65 “Eau Rouge“ Dark Edition has its own identity and an own profile, both in the exterior and also in the interior. The front spoilers and rear skirt lip are designed in the typical Carlsson Diffuser Look and the striking rear spoiler also eases handling the luxury coupe at high speeds. The exclusive Carlsson aerodynamics parts are made of high-class and ultra-light solid carbon, a material which is mainly used in the Formula 1.

For the newly-arrived, comprehensively reworked Mercedes SL, Carlsson Autotechnik GmbH in Merzig can already offer an individualisation programme transforming the SL 500 into the Carlsson CK50.

Coming on strong: the Carlsson CK50 engine kit

Specially developed by Carlsson for the current 5.5 Litre V8, the CK50 engine kit, which includes the adaptation of the electronic control unit, allows the elegant roadster to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. Following their boost by Carlsson, the output and torque data are quite impressive: 435 HP/ 320 kW (standard model: 388 HP/ 285 kW) at 6000 rpm. The torque of the tuned V8 is 600 Nm/ 2800-4800 rpm (electronically regulated), the top speed is 293 km/h thanks to the Vmax delimiter, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds. In short, the CK50 engine kit has more than enough output and torque for any situation! Support for its output comes in the form of the CK50 kits exhaust gas system, which has been individually adapted to optimise the flow of exhaust gases. The exhaust gas back pressure is reduced with the help of sports middle and rear exhaust silencers made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel and developed by Carlssons own engineers. Four polished exhaust tailpipes bear witness to the additional performance of this SL.

Naturally, Carlsson can also provide the appropriate performance enhancements for versions of the SL with other engines in them extending right up to the CK65, which has over 700 HP and a torque of 1100 Nm. In all these performance enhancements, the Carlsson engineers are constantly on the lookout to ensure that the tolerance limits of the engine components are not exceeded, so as to avoid any damage. Equally, all engines that have been tuned by Carlsson still comply with all the regulations concerning exhaust fumes.

2008 Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS

The Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS seems to sense that this road into the hills above Monte Carlo is gradually opening up and it piles on the speed almost instinctively. Freed from the tight and winding roads around Casino Square, the red-and-black peril simply sucks up the black ribbon of road.

There's no nautical feeling of 2 tons getting up on a bow wave, just a shimmy from the wide rear tires as 700 turbocharged horsepower wrestles with the stability control computer of this highly tuned Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG.

Suddenly we forget that the interior has given us a migraine. Suddenly we overlook the eye-watering price tag of $465,000. Instead we remember the glimpse of the mouthed expletive from the window of a police cruiser that we passed in Casino Square and we finally appreciate the work that's gone into this monster.

We're aboard the finest grand touring car available at any price. Carlsson says to think of this as a Maybach for those who actually like to drive.

The subtleties of racetrack engineering might elude the kind of customers that will buy the 2008 Carlsson CK65 RS Eau Rouge. When all is said and done, this is a super-fast limousine with a sporting look. But Rolf Hartge believes those who purchase one of these limited-edition cars will relish the simple knowledge that almost nothing can stay with this ostentatious display of wealth at the traffic lights.

This is as close as Carlsson's new car will ever come to Eau Rouge in the real world, but given the chance, this Maybach for real drivers is a match for any luxury GT on the planet.
