Ferrari 612 Scaglietti by Imola Racing

To miss with perfection should be a sin. So the moment Imola Racing even began to mess with the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, the heavens should open and swallow the German tuner whole.

Ferrari 612 Scaglietti -1Ferrari 612 Scaglietti -2At least it seems Imola was smart enough to not touch the engine. Instead this is likely just body enhancements. We don’t have much info on the kit. We do know its being considered a widebody because of the enlarged fenders and larger tires. There are also new front and rear spoilers as well as a two-tone paint job the is reminiscent of the first generation Corvette.

2009 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Ferrari's oldest current model, the 612 Scaglietti, is also its least desirable, if marketplace demand is any measure. While the F430 and the 599GTB Fiorano enjoy lengthy waiting lists, Ferrari's flagship can occasionally be bought right off the showroom floor. Does that make it a bad car? Of course not - the least desirable Ferrari is, after all, still a Ferrari.

2009 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti-12009 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti-2The problem is that the 612's elegant, reserved demeanor is decidedly at odds with the outrageousness that we've come to expect from Maranello. The entry-level F430's adolescent break-dance handling and ghetto-blaster V-8 encourage 8500-rpm upshifts and tire-smoke-drenched hole-shots. That kind of bad behavior seems juvenile in the polished Scaglietti, which feels best when it's cruising gently around town. Its V-12 is quiet inside the cabin, the ride is plush, and the steering is light, offering far less feedback than you'd expect. The interior is flawlessly finished, with beautiful leather on every surface.

Ferrari has made some subtle changes to the Scaglietti for its fifth model year, and one not-so-subtle change to the price. The cheapest 612 you can now buy retails for an almost incomprehensible $318,538. Last year, you could drive out of a dealership in a 612 for roughly $55,000 less. So what do you get for your extra money?

First of all, an updated SuperFast version of Ferrari's F1 automated-manual gearbox is now standard, complete with the aforementioned manettino. A manual transmission is no longer available. If you force it to, the updated 612 will haul its 4100-pound self to 62 mph 0.2 second sooner than before, in four seconds flat. The big coupe keeps accelerating to 199 mph, and it's that figure that is likely more impressive to potential 612 customers.

The updated Scaglietti also receives a Bose infotainment and navigation system and a glass panoramic roof. A center-console-mounted, three-position switch commands electrochromatic elements in the glass to help block the sun's rays and keep the interior cooler on warm days.

Ferrari previously announced their One to One personalization program back at the Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago and now it's coming to North America. One to One is for those who just can't settle for an "off the rack" Ferrari, as if there is such a thing, yet the program allows purchasers of the new 2008 612 Scaglietti to have their new toys tailored to their whims.

Along with the usual shrieking V-12, the latest edition of the 612 includes Ferrari's new electrochromic roof and SuperFast electro-hydraulic shifted gearbox. 2007 Hamann Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

(from Hamann Press Release) HAMANN Ferrari 612 Scaglietti: For the gentleman driver with sporting ambitions

2007 Hamann Ferrari 612 Scaglietti2007 Hamann Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 22007 Hamann Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 3
Extensive aerodynamic kit with diffuser
• Sporty end mufflers for an even stronger sound
• Agile road-handling through sport suspension
• Split-rim light-alloy wheels “Edition Race” in 20 and 21 inch

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is the perfect vehicle in the Maranello sports car stable for the gentleman driver. The Gran Turismo is already a very noble means of travel as standard equipment, however particularly optically it can still stand some flashier details. Therefore a modification of the body stood at the top of the HAMANN engineers’ to-do list. But the refiners from Laupheim didn’t neglect sound and handling either.

Form and function assume a strong symbiosis through the HAMANN aerodynamic components. The sports car designed by Pininfarina acquired a front spoiler from the noble tuner from Laupheim to provide optimal downforce on the front axle, which also improved the optics of the largest Ferrari even further. The pair of side sills for the flank of the 612 impart an impression of lowered suspension. The rear spoiler helps to ensure optimal downforce on the rear axle, while clearly bringing a more sporting look to the rear view without disturbing the basic design. HAMANN achieves an even bigger modification to the rear view through a new rear end component with integrated diffuser, which also ensures more downforce.

As customary with HAMANN, the aerodynamic components are available in fiberglass and carbon-Kevlar.

HAMANN addresses the subject of wheels with its self-developed design “Edition Race”. The appearance of the three-part, ultra-light, forged rim with cross-spoke design and black rim-star is characterized by the nine main spokes, which each branch out to form two more. Besides the exciting design, the titanium screwing is particularly pleasing to the eye. The cherry on the cake of the noble optics is the highly polished rim flange. Naturally HAMANN also offers the wheel as a complete wheel set.

Typical wheel and tire combinations:
front 9.0 J x 20” / rear 12.5 J x 20” - 245/35 ZR 20 / 335/30 ZR20
front 9.0 J x 21” / rear 12.0 J x 21” - 245/30 ZR 21 / 345/25 ZR21

With the aid of a chassis spring assembly, HAMANN lowers the center of gravity even further which even in a vehicle of this caliber still brings noticeable improvement to the handling.

Incontestably the sound of a Ferrari 12-cylinder is something completely special. The sport mufflers are made from in V2A stainless steel and are offered by HAMANN for left and right, each of which has double exhaust pipes (Ш 90mm). When ordering the sport mufflers, the 540 HP symphony sounds twice as potent as before. This also means that the twelve cylinders can breathe out more easily.

Naturally HAMANN also dedicates itself to the interior. Traveling should be made as pleasant as possible for the passengers. For example, an exclusive foot mat set in black in the Ferrari’s cockpit makes it appear more homey. Of course HAMANN can also modify any 612 Scaglietti to the individual tastes of the customer, e.g. with lavish leather fittings in different colors or extensive multimedia configurations involving a DVD player, TV or PlayStation.
