2009 Toyota Venza – Video

Toyota went with an aggressive, unique look for the new Toyota Venza, and Cars.com reviewer David Thomas wonders if this startling design will attract buyers or turn them off. It would be a shame if it did keep them from taking a look because, as he notes in his video review of the 2009 Toyota Venza has a lot to offer, especially for the right-sized family.

Toyota Venza Runs Around West Hollywood

Thank heavens for camera phones. Levy was having breakfast near Sunset Plaza this morning when this blue, test-equipment laden Toyota interupted his coffee and danish egg white omelette and fruit plate. You’d actually be surprised how many cars with doodads and weird little baubles plastered all over the place roll around the Hollywood area.

Answer is: lots. Anyhow, the wheels on this jacked up Camry look like they came off a Lincoln–a proto MK?? CUV being Levy’s guess. As for yet another CUV crowding its way into an already flooded market? We’re betting Toyota Venza made much more sense when Toyota dreamt it up back in 2006 than it does today.

Details remain scarce on Toyota's new inline-four

When Toyota unveiled the Venza in Detroit, the only details about what would motivate the CUV/wagon/Camry-on-stilts were two possible powerplants. The first was the range-topping 268-hp 3.5-liter V6, while details about an "all-new" 2.7-liter four-cylinder were scarce. KickingTires tapped CSM Worldwide who made an educated guess on the new engine's output and pegged it at 188 hp, a predictable though sizable bump in power over the 157-hp, 2.4-liter four currently used throughout Toyota's lineup.

The new engine will not only power the base Venza, but will also find a home in the engine bay of the Camry and Highlander. The only concern is how fuel economy will be affected by the extra .3-liters of displacement, but Toyota assures that "excellent fuel economy" will be achieved when mated to the Venza's six-speed automatic.
