Is this the new Lancia Delta HPE ?

On the 5th of September Lancia will be announcing its future plans at the Biennale del Cinema di Venezia. And, according to the Autoinsight blog, it will be showing a concept car that anticipates the new Lancia Delta HPE.

Lancia Delta HPE The picture above might be a photoshop, but it's fairly plausible. The Lancia Delta HPE should be based on a stretched Fiat Bravo platform and it should be about 4.50 meters long. The engines should include three turbo-charged gasoline engines (1.4 Turbo with 120 and 150 ps, 1.8 Turbo with 190 ps) and two turbo-diesel engines (1.6 with 120 ps and 2.0 with 165 ps).

The new Delta should be on the market by the second half of 2008

Honda ready to reveal new Type-R

Honda will finally stop teasing us when it unveils the production-ready version of the Civic Type-R at the Paris motor show in September. (It's expected to look very similar to the concept pictured here.)

honda type-Rhonda type-R 2 The 197bhp super-hatch is said to be more refined than its predecessor, but Honda also says it has improved handling and steering responses.

Also making its motor show debut in Paris is the new CR-V SUV.

Tackling the new Land Rover Freelander head on, the CR-V aims to please with a drive that Honda tells us is fine-tuned for on-road dynamics.

A new 2.0-litre petrol engine will be introduced to the CR-V range, while the 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit sees renewed service.

Expect to see both cars on sale in the UK in the early part of 2007.

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe Concept by Chip Foose

(from GM Press Release) Chevrolet will demonstrate that “yellow is the new black” when it comes to style at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Thursday, August 31. As the “official vehicle” of the VMAs, Chevrolet will provide a customized fleet of 60 E85 compatible SUVs to transport talent to the Awards telecast at Radio City Music Hall and provide production support in and around New York City.

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 22007 Chevrolet Tahoe 32007 Chevrolet Tahoe 4 Chevrolet and MTV are partnering around the 2006 VMAs to help educate viewers on E85 ethanol technology in an effort to raise awareness about reducing greenhouse gas emissions and curbing dependence on fossil fuels. The specialty fleet will be branded to promote the show as well as GM’s Flex Fuel technology, which is at the center of a “Live Green, Go Yellow” initiative. This marks the first time a manufacturer has provided a fleet of E85 vehicles that have been customized specific to a major awards show.

“Going green never looked so good,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards is a great opportunity for us to showcase our Flex Fuel, E85 ethanol-compatible vehicles, as well as spread the word about Chevrolet’s product portfolio that boasts nine out of 10 cars with over 30 mpg fuel economy.”

In addition to the Fleet of Chevy Flex Fuel vehicles, a one-of-a-kind “pimped out” 2007 Chevy Tahoe Concept will make its red carpet debut at the VMAs. The Concept vehicle, which was designed by award-winning automotive designer Chip Foose and Unique Performance Concepts, will transport a celebrity to the awards show.

Chevrolet has also designed a multiplatform program centered around the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards to include: the branded fleet, customized Tahoe Concept, in-program content (Chevy will present the pre-show “Top of the Rock” concert and provide the “Chevy Fly-Cam” with aerial shots of red carpet arrivals) and on-line/off-line advertising.

New creative was designed to pump up awareness about Chevrolet’s line-up of fuel-saving vehicles. Television ad spots themed in tandem with a recently-launched web site – reduceuruse.com – are tagged “How would you spend your time away from the pump?”

The web site invites consumers to upload consumer generated video of unique activities they would enjoy if they did not have to spend as much time at the gas station “fueling up.” Humorous postings to date include a man watering his garden while dressed in a Speedo, a giant bouncy ball clash and an electronic football enthusiast. Each video clip can be further shared on consumers’ MySpace pages, blogs and beyond. Reduceuruse.com is also an informational resource about Chevy vehicles and fuel efficiency, including the nine out of 10 Chevy cars that have an EPA estimated 30 or more highway MPG.

The “MTV Video Music Awards Chevy E85” vehicles will consist of 2007-model year Chevrolets, including the Tahoe, Avalanche and Suburban. The lightly-customized fleet is highlighted by a custom billet grille, 2006 MTV Video Music Awards badging, Chevy Accessory Wheels equipped with Goodyear Eagle tires and chrome center caps, bright kit running boards (Tahoes only), and a special cover trailer hitch receiver (Tahoes and Suburbans only).

The interiors of the fleet vehicles exude quality, precision and comfort. Features (varying among models) include OnStar, XM Radio, CD/MP3-compatible audio systems, a Rearview camera system, Touch-screen navigation system, DVD rear-seat entertainment system with an 8-inch screen, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, industry-exclusive power-release fold-and-tumble second-row seat, heated first- and second-row seats and more. Under the hoods, a powerful factory-issued next generation Vortec 5.3L V-8 engine delivers segment-leading horsepower (320 hp/340 lb.-ft. torque) and the segment’s leading fuel economy combined with E85 ethanol compatibility.

The fleet will run on E85 ethanol. Sprague Energy will supply E85 to the New York City Department of Sanitation where GM will refuel for the VMAs. E85 is not currently available to the public in New York, and later this month GM and the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition plan to announce new station openings supporting E85 and GM Flex Fuel vehicles.

The “MTV Video Music Awards Chevy E85” vehicles will be available for sale after the awards show at Chevrolet dealerships in the New York area. A commemorative plaque will accompany each sale.

The Tahoe Concept showcases classic Foose details, including a black powder-coated billet grille with the legendary Chevy bowtie at the center. Foose lowered its stance and gave it a two-tone paint scheme of silver birch (upper portion) and black (lower portion) with a thin Tangier orange stripe along the top of the door cladding that wraps around the vehicle. Exterior touches include Foose badging, dual stainless steel exhaust tips, chrome side molding, and more. Inside, a stainless instrument panel shines, while the Foose logo is stitched into the headrests and stamped onto the doorsill plates.

Chip Foose, star of the TV series “Overhaulin,” who has numerous awards to his credit including the 2005 Riddler Award at Detroit’s Autorama, was inducted into the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame in 2003, and in 1997 became the youngest member ever inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. His storied career began under his father’s design tutelage and by age 12, Foose already had five years experience and had also painted his first car. With his father and Project Design he helped design and build street rods, customs, studio vehicles and show cars for films such as Blade Runner, Robo Cop and Gone in 60 Seconds.

The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards will be held on August 31, 2006 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The show will be available to a potential viewing audience of more than 1.3 billion people via MTV’s global network of 50 channels reaching 481.5 million households around the world as well as through syndication. Its convergent and original online programming will reach the entire interactive community, via MTV’s 43 Web sites around the world.

Lexus gears up for Paris show

Forget the claims of rival luxury cars having more technology than it took to send a man to the Moon, the new Lexus LS range could send a whole tribe to far end of the galaxy.

lexus ls460lexus ls600h The LS makes its European debut at the Paris motor show in September, where we'll get a butcher's at the LS460 and also the LS600h hybrid model.

High on the LS's agenda is safety, with an Advanced Obstacle Detection System than can pick up on potential dangers ahead.

The Emergency Steering Assist speeds up the steering's response if it senses a sudden input from the driver.

Then there's the Driver Monitoring System to help keep the driver's eyes on the road.

Put all this together and you have the Lexus Pre-Crash Safety package, which also predicts if an accident is unavoidable and puts the headrests in the optimum position to reduce whiplash.

It also activates all of the above systems to help the driver avoid the accident if at all possible.

One small step for Lexus, one giant leap for driver-kind.

2006 Lotus Exige 265E

(from Lotus Press Release) The Lotus Exige 265E – the most powerful road version of the Lotus Exige ever – and it runs on environmentally friendly Bio Fuel !

Lotus Engineering, the engineering consultancy division of Group Lotus Plc has developed a
bio-ethanol E85 version of the Lotus Exige.

The research vehicle is a true Lotus (it weighs just 930 kg unladen) and is called the Lotus Exige 265E. 265 indicates the approximate horsepower and is consistent with the naming strategy of other one-off and limited run Lotus variants such as the Lotus Sport Exige 240R; the E indicates the environmentally favourable bio-ethanol E85 fuel (85% ethanol alcohol and 15% petrol / gasoline) that powers this extremely high performing sportscar.

Key to this performance is a slightly modified version of the 2ZZ VVTL-i supercharged and intercooled high revving 4-cylinder engine from the standard Lotus Exige S. This now gives an estimated set of performance figures that would thrash the majority of “Super-Unleaded” performance cars: 0-60 mph in 3.88 seconds, 0-100 mph in 9.2 seconds and a top speed of 158 mph! In fact, the Lotus Exige 265E is probably the world’s quickest road-legal E85 bio-ethanol car.

Key changes have been made to the fuel system, the engine calibration and the four fuel injectors mounted on the inlet manifold have been enlarged. Two additional fuel injectors have been fitted at the supercharger inlet to increase the amount of fuel being injected in to the engine under higher engine loads and to further cool the charge air prior to combustion.

2006 Volkswagen IROC Concept

(from Volkswagen Press Release) Comeback of a successful idea: 33 years ago at the international Motor Show in Geneva Volkswagen presented a sensational coupe. It was compact, distinctive, agile, spacious and affordable. Volkswagen called it the Scirocco. The car struck the nerve of the times: More than half a million first generation Sciroccos were produced worldwide. Turning point: In August 2006 the largest car maker in Europe is showing the reinterpretation of the successful Scirocco idea in a world premiere – the Iroc concept.

Volkswagen IROCVolkswagen IROC 2Volkswagen IROC 3Volkswagen IROC 4Volkswagen IROC 5 New VW sports car design: Like the first Scirocco with its visual straightforwardness the Iroc also marks a stylistic turning point through its progressively designed radiator grill and a distinctive sensuality of forms. The concept of both Volkswagens is closely related, even though the vehicles are separated by over three decades: The first generation Scirocco was an attainable dream car for many people. Because the Scirocco was an automotive superstar of the 70’s, styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro and equipped with four full-fledged seats, a proper trunk, large hatchback and a lot of self-esteem. The Iroc concept takes up this fascinating idea again.

Purebred sports car instead of a classic coupe: However, in contrast to the original Scirocco the Iroc is no classic coupe, but a progressively designed sports car with an extremely long roof and a comparatively steep rear end. This has two advantages. Firstly: The Iroc features sharp proportions. Especially when viewed from behind it becomes immediately apparent that this long roof together with side window sections is situated on very broad and powerful shoulders. The Iroc thus achieves a waist of flawless sports car theory. Secondly: The Iroc also has room in back for two adults and ample luggage. On balance the provocatively designed Iroc combines a high degree of suitability for daily use, pure driving fun and expressive design into a Volkswagen that as a possible series-production vehicle will also be very attractively positioned in terms of price.

Viper green meets dark carbon: The Iroc concept exhibits numerous subtleties in detail. Paint example: Although anything but retro styled, the green used is an homage to the first generation Scirocco for which this exact shade of color was especially typical starting with the 1976 model. Then as now it’s called “viper green metallic”. This glaring green of the Iroc is especially effective in combination with the high contrast black shades of the concept. Carbon example: The central roof element is composed of dark tinted glass; this element is supported by a structure covered with carbon. An integrated lengthwise support is also a part of these materials. The side sills of the Iroc also have a carbon surface. The structure of the sill visible from outside continues seamlessly into the interior.

Sexy dimensions: With its short overhangs the Iroc efficiently utilizes a wheelbase of 2,680 mm for the space provided inside. The concept is 1,400 mm high, 4,240 mm long and 1,800 mm wide. The light-alloy rims specially designed for the Iroc and 235 tires are implemented in 19 inch size.

Twincharger and DSG: The Iroc is powered by a TSI engine, referred to in-house as a Twincharger. Shifting tasks are handled by the DSG direct shift gearbox. About the Twincharger: First employed in the Golf GT in 2006, TSI engines are currently the most efficient four-cylinder gasoline engines in the world. The combination of compressor and turbocharger shows the path to the future. The compressor compensates for the typical powering up weaknesses of turbo-only gasoline engines at low rpms. The turbocharger in contrast packs a mighty punch at higher revs. The combination of both superchargers in large-volume production engines is the only one of its kind in the world. The TSI version used in the concept achieves 155 kW / 210 hp. In principle, a large range of supercharged engines are conceivable for the Iroc that could start significantly under 110 kW / 150 hp. But there’s one thing every engine theoretically employed in the Iroc has to guarantee: Driving fun.

Saab revamps its 9-3

2007 Strosek Nissan 350Z

(from Strosek) What began as a development project for Nissan at the start of the nineties--the Strosek 300Z was the result of this cooperation--we have now extended with the Strosek 350Z.

Strosek Nissan 350ZStrosek Nissan 350Z 2 The Nissan 350Z naturally has a clear, reduced design with a crisp, sporty appearance. It was a very special challenge for us to not only retain these attributes but to also reinforce them with a pure, highly functional aerodynamics program.

The Strosek 350Z is a truly super sports car which immediately appeals with its futuristic form. The concept works just as well on the race track as on the road thanks to the aerodynamics optimized in the wind tunnel. Through the clearly structured design elements, the vehicle has the character of a high class architecture and at the same time the powerful dymanics of an extreme sportsman.

New V8 diesel for Range Rover Sport

Prepare to see more queues outside your local Range Rover dealer with the launch of the Sport TDV8 model.

range rover sportrange rover sportKeen students of Range Rover nomenclature will correctly surmise that is a turbodiesel V8 model.

The 3.6-litre V8 engine packs 268bhp and a tarmac-trembling 472lb ft of torque to bridge the gap between the TDV6 and petrol V8 models very effectively.

Capable of a reasonable 25.5mpg combined economy, the TDV8 will also see the Sport from 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and on to an electronically strangled top speed of 130mph.

A six-speed automatic gearbox is standard, as is full-time four-wheel drive.

The TDV8 comes with a specification similar to the Supercharged's, which means 19in alloy wheels and leather seats.

Prices will be announced at the Paris motor show in September.

Land Rover revamps iconic Defender

There's life in the old dog yet, and Land Rover has proved it with a series of improvements to the Defender.

land rover defender The styled-by-set-square Defender now has a snazzy new six-speed manual gearbox to make the most of its new 2.4-litre common-rail turbodiesel engine.

The four-cylinder 2.4-litre unit has 265lb ft of torque at just 2,000rpm for superb off-road ability, and permanent four-wheel drive remains standard.

A lower first gear in the six-speed gearbox allows reduced crawl speeds for greater off-road control, while sixth gear is longer than the previous five-speeder's top ratio to make motorway cruising more relaxed.

The most noticeable changes to the Defender are in the cabin, where there's a new dashboard design.

The instruments are borrowed from the Discovery 3 and the centre console now has a storage tray on its upper edge, while two grab handles help the front passenger hang on when driving off-road.

New front seats provide greater support and there are improved head restraints, while the second row of seats in longer wheelbase models can now be ordered with a pair of captain's chairs.

The captain's chairs can also be ordered for the third row, or you can stick with the traditional huge cargo space.

The air-conditioning system has been uprated to cool the cabin in half the time of the previous model.

Prices for the revised Defender will be announced closer to when it's officially launched at the Paris motor show next month.

Take a closer look at this Peugeot 607 and you'll see that it's a world first.

peugeot 607 You will need to peer under the bonnet to see what all the fuss is about because this is the world's first twin-turbo diesel engine in a four-cylinder car.

Only available in Executive trim, the £26,495 HDi 170 model manages a combined economy of 44.1mpg.

The engine works by only using one of the turbochargers at low revs, with the second coming into play at 2,600rpm.

The two turbos then work in tandem between 2,600- and 3,200rpm, which is where the engine is expected to spend most of its operating time.

2007 TechArt Porsche Carrera GT

(From TechArt Press Release) Is it possible to make a Porsche Carrera GT even more sporty and exclusive? Yes it is! TechArt Automobildesign (www.techart.de ) now customizes one of the rare mid-engine super sports cars for one of its long-time customers.

2007 Porsche Carrera GT2007 Porsche Carrera GT 22007 Porsche Carrera GT 32007 Porsche Carrera GT 42007 Porsche Carrera GT 5 The TechArt designers have developed aerodynamically efficient custom-tailored body components made from exposed carbon fiber that serve as a visual contrast to the metallic-orange special paint. A new air outlet on the upper half of the front fascia and a one-piece spoiler lip on the lower half give the front of the two-seater an even more dynamic appearance. The low-reaching front spoiler reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds further and thus further optimizes directional stability.

TechArt has also developed a three-piece gurney flap that serves as the aerodynamic counterpart in the rear. The center piece of the separation edge extends together with the pop-up rear wing and in combination with the fixed spoiler edges on the left and right produces additional downforce on the rear axle.

While suspension and tires remain untouched the peripherals of the 5.7-liter V10 engine are upgraded with a TechArt stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system and a modified intake system. Both benefit not only the engine sound that escapes through the two production tailpipes; the modifications also increase maximum power output from 612 hp / 450 kW to some 635 hp / 467 kW.

Further room for improvement of the Carrera GT lay in the cockpit. TechArt customized the interior with an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel with leather/carbon fiber rim, and a shifter made from exposed carbon fiber. Requests for even more exclusive and colorful fully leather interiors are answered by the TechArt upholstery shop.

Ford runs fuel-cell Focus at Woodward Dream Cruise

DETROIT -- The Woodward Dream Cruise in suburban Detroit on Saturday, Aug. 19, will have several thousand hot rods, antiques, sports cars and muscle cars of every size, shape and color. The one thing they all will have in common is the fuel they use: gasoline.

ford focus fcv But at least one car on Woodward Avenue will be emitting water vapor from its tailpipe, not carbon dioxide or oxides of nitrogen. It's a Ford Focus FCV powered by a fuel cell that runs on gaseous hydrogen. Its powertrain could be a staple of the Dream Cruise 25 years from now.

Ford has built a fleet of about 30 Focus FCVs that are being tested this year in several cities. So far, Ford has logged about 250,000 miles on the cars, spokesman Nick Twork said.

Ford plans to have engineers from its fuel cell team at its corporate display in Shain Park in Birmingham, Mich., to answer questions from the public during the cruise.

Last year's Dream Cruise attracted not only a wide variety of classics but also a few drivers concerned about the environment. One group of hybrid drivers featured about 30 Toyota, Honda and Ford vehicles.

Ford engineers won't be able to refill the hydrogen fuel tanks at the event. They must drive the cars about 15 miles to Dearborn, Mich., where Ford has its own hydrogen refueling station. The fuel cell Focus can drive between 160 and 200 miles on a tank of hydrogen.

"Fuel cells could be the next generation of technology," Twork said. "We acknowledge they are far off, but we are working on them. We want to show people that we have these cars and they are real."

While sharing the unique styling cues and refined interior trim found in all Lexus models, the new Pebble Beach SC includes special-edition brushed-chrome badging on the front fenders and center console; a Pimento red Pebble Beach logo is embroidered on black carpeted floor mats to complement the interior. The hardtop convertible also features aggressive 18-inch G-Spider alloy wheels, a sleek rear spoiler, and either run-flat summer or run-flat all-season tires.

Since its debut as the first retractable hardtop in the premium luxury segment, one of the SC 430's most notable features has been its ability to stow the roof within the confines of its trunk in a meager 25 seconds, while still maintaining enough room for luggage. This is accomplished without latches, catches, snaps or covers. When the top is up, it defies traditional convertible logic by remaining solid, secure and weatherproof.

Beneath its striking exterior, the rear-wheel-drive SC 430 is propelled by a 288-horsepower, DOHC, 4.3-liter V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), while still achieving 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway and ULEV II emissions certification. The powerful V8 is mated to a six-speed sequential-shift ECT-i transmission to attain a 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 149 mph.

A number of new features are present on all 2007 SC 430s, including driver and front passenger knee airbags, which complement the standard dual front airbags and front-seat-mounted side airbags. The knee airbags are in addition to a new front-passenger occupant-detection sensor and a fully concealed uniblade front windshield wiper.

Daytime running lights, fog lamps and projector High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights are among the illumination features highlighted by Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) headlights, which help better illuminate a turn as the driver steers into it. The SC 430 also includes an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, traction control (TRAC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC).

For a truly extraordinary auditory experience, Lexus has partnered with Mark Levinsonв – designers of the ultimate in custom home audio systems – to create a sound system available exclusively in Lexus vehicles. The SC 430 contains a Mark Levinson® Premium Sound System with a seven-channel DSP 240-watt amplifier, nine strategically placed speakers and a six-disc in-dash CD changer. An Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) system automatically adjusts when the top is lowered to compensate for the change in acoustics and ambient noise levels and returns to its original levels when the top is raised. This lends to a sound quality that truly mimics a live performance. The sound system is integrated with a DVD-based Lexus Navigation System with voice command that allows hands-free use.

The 2007 Lexus SC Pebble Beach Edition will be available for purchase in September 2006.

New diesel Octavia vRS

We're big fans of the stealthy Skoda Octavia vRS, but now there's a version that will be able to sneak around for even more miles between fill-ups.

skoda octavia vRS The Octavia 2.0 TDi PD vRS comes with a 170bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel and is capable of 48.7mpg combined consumption.

It's not quite as nippy as the petrol model, managing 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds, or 8.6 if you opt for the estate model, though it can still head on to 140mph.

The diesel costs £845 more than the petrol - prices start at £18,370 for the hatch and £19,220 for the estate.

And that, we reckon, will be the oil-burner's biggest problem - a faster and cheaper petrol alternative.

All-new Corsa driven

This, as you'll know from our extensive news coverage, is the all-new Corsa.

vauxhall corsavauxhall corsa 2vauxhall corsa 3vauxhall corsa 4 It's a car that Vauxhall has to pitch not only against established local rivals, like the recently revised Ford Fiesta, but also an ominously strong showing from abroad in the various forms of Renault Clio, Peugeot 207, Toyota Yaris and Fiat Grande Punto. That's a lot of cars. A lot of very good cars, in fact.

So what's the Vauxhall got that's going to win us over? For starters, there are the looks - full marks for finally getting some distance from the usual staid Corsa styling (in three-door format at least).

It's also bigger than the outgoing car, so there's greater interior space - and we've been promised a quick VXR version to capitalise on what is claimed to be a highly agile chassis.

Good news indeed. Trouble is, there's just one big question that remains for the Corsa - what does it drive like?

The answer will be revealed - on the homepage of this very website - on Monday August 21.

The annoying thing is that we've already driven it. And we already know what it's like. And we were hoping to be able to tell you. But if we spill the beans before Monday, Vauxhall has promised us they'll be unspeakably angry.

So, check back after the weekend - we'll reveal all and keep the boys from Luton happy. We hope...

Based on an unsuspecting Cayenne Turbo, the Magnum also features a body kit that makes it look like the front end has melted.

If you fancy seeing this monster for yourself, it'll be appearing at the MPH '06 motor show in Birmingham and London in October and November.

First pictures: new Mini

You have to wonder if the designers at Mini just thought they'd have a bit of a rest.

mini coopermini cooper 2mini cooper 3mini cooper 4mini cooper 5 After all, they'd penned the hugely successful BMW Mini that's gone on to sell more than 800,000 units around the world, come up with quicker versions, a convertible, and even knocked out a couple of decent concept models.

Hell, they even managed to come up with a British small car the Americans like. Why not have a well-earned break?

Then the call comes from Germany. 'When will we see the new car?' says the Munich-accented voice at the other end of the phone.

Panic stations. They need to show something to the high-ups and fast, so why not keep the cutesy looks of the original and tell them it's a bit bigger? Just park it a bit closer to the front of the stage.

We don't know if that's what really happened, but the result is that the all-new Mini goes on sale in November this year.

The new car has had every exterior panel remodelled, yet it looks almost identical to the original 2001 car, other than the headlights are rounder and are no longer fixed to the bonnet but mounted on the wing underneath.

The Mini Cooper is 60mm longer than before, and the Cooper S an extra 1mm longer than this.

The extra length is to help the new Mini meet tougher crash test requirements, while the S model's bonnet curves up more to cover the engine's turbocharger.

There's still that wheel-at-each-corner poise to the new car, and the window line sits 18mm higher than before to give an even more at-the-ready appearance.

Smoother upper body styling has reduced the new Mini's aerodynamic drag factor (down from the old car's 0.35 to 0.33), helped along by a new spoiler at the rear of the roof.

The other clue to the new Mini is the rear lights are now a little larger.

But to really spot the new car, you will need to look inside and see the more marked differences compared with its predecessor.

The speedo is still mounted in the centre of the dashboard but can now include a screen for entertainment and navigation functions.

The centre console beneath the speedo is slimmer to free up more space in the footwells, but the toggle switches of the original remain.

There are also more toggle switches up in the ceiling to control the interior lights' colour, which can be varied in five shades from orange to blue.

Another new control is the ignition does away with a key and replaces it with a BMW 3-Series-style plipper that's inserted into a slot in the dash before pressing the start/stop button.

Mini tells us the new car has more rear seat space to answer criticisms of the previous model, but we'll have to wait until we can clamber in there to confirm this.

From November, UK buyers will be offered the Cooper and Cooper S models.

The Cooper uses a 120bhp 1.6-litre engine that serves up 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds and a top speed of 125mph.

The S uses a turbocharger to release 175bhp from the 1.6-litre engine, doing away with the original Cooper S's supercharger.

With only a fraction more power than its predecessor, the new S model is a whisker quicker all-round, with 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.

Perhaps as impressive as the performance is the fuel economy - the Cooper S is capable of 40.9mpg on the combined cycle, which is very respectable for a hot hatch and more than 8mpg better than the previous S.

Both of the Cooper models remain front-wheel drive and will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an optional six-speed auto with steering wheel-mounted paddle shift.

The Cooper S will ride on firmer suspension to the Cooper, and both cars can be upgraded with a Sports Suspension option that stiffens the springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars.

The Mini Cooper will start at £12,995, which is £500 more than the outgoing model, and comes with 15in alloy wheels and run-flat tyres as standard.

The Cooper S gains 16in alloys and electronic stability control for its £15,995 asking price.

The £11,595 Mini One will follow the Cooper models in early 2007 and use a 1.4-litre engine.

The diesel model will arrive at the same time as the One, so it looks like those designers will be kept busy for a while yet.

Kia's Cee'd takes root

They teased us at the British motor show and now Kia is set to please us at the Parisian show with its new Cee'd family car.

kia cee'd
Set to reach UK showrooms at the end of the year, the Cee'd has barely changed from the concept car we saw at the Geneva motor show in March.

Kia has yet to confirm prices and specifications, but it has told us the Cee'd will be built at its new factory in Slovakia for the European market.

The Cee'd is a five-door hatchback and it will go up against the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Mazda 6.

Kia tells us the car sets new standards for the company for quality, design and interior feel.

Engines will be drawn from Kia's existing range of 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol motors, and the company's latest 2.0-litre turbodiesel unit.

Suzuki set for Paris splash

Suzuki will be strutting its stuff on the catwalk of the Paris motor show in September.

The Japanese firm has two cars to wow the crowds with the arrival of the Swift Sport and a concept car called 'Splash'.

suzuki splashsuzuki swift The Swift Sport is based on the three-door model and will go on sale in October, although we'll have to wait until the Paris show for prices.

Under the bonnet sits a 1.6-litre engine with 125bhp, which takes the Swift Sport from 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds and on to 124mph.

The Splash is based on the Swift's platform but is set to use four-wheel drive to provide another model in Suzuki's 4x4 line-up.

A tall body provides plenty of cabin space in the Splash, and Suzuki hopes to see how broad an appeal this type of vehicle has.

A new 1.2-litre petrol engine nestles up front and is attached to a four-speed automatic gearbox.

MX-5 Roadster Coupe prices revealed

Mazda has lifted the lid on prices for its MX-5 Roadster Coupe.

mazda mx-5 roadster coupemazda mx-5 roadster coupe 2The range will start at £18,210 for the 124bhp 1.8i model.

All Roadster Coupes will come with climate control and the Option Pack from the soft-top model as standard.

That means every Roadster Coupe will have 16in alloy wheels, and a leather-covered steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake.

Buyers can also opt for the 158bhp 2.0-litre engine with either five- or six-speed gearboxes.

Mazda reckons the folding hard top is the fastest-acting roof in the world, taking just 12 seconds to stow away or fold back up.

The new roof does not affect the boot space of the MX-5, and the Roadster Coupe has the same 150-litre capacity as the soft-top model.

Mazda says performance is also unchanged from the soft-top's, because the metal roof adds only 37kg to the weight of the MX-5.

You can pre-order a Roadster Coupe now, and deliveries begin in November.

2007 Carlsson CK55 based on Mercedes SL 55 AMG

Carlsson, based in Merzig in the Saar, offers the CK55 RS performance kit for all MB vehicles with the M113, 5.5-liter supercharged AMG engine type. Carlsson thereby alters compressor transmission, resulting in a higher maximum compressor RPM. This allows Carlsson to raise the boost pressure and thus the required air flow rate. The combined result is then significantly enhanced performance.

Carlsson modifies the compressor in such a way that it generates more pressure very early on – that is, even at lower rpms – supplying the engine with high torque. That's how Carlsson achieves not only considerably better flexibility, but also better driving comfort.

A customized exhaust system also boosts performance – a design created by Carlsson which optimizes exhaust flows. To reduce exhaust gas back pressure, the automobile tuner uses rear mufflers of corrosion-resistant stainless steel – as seen in sports cars – which work according to the principle of absorption. The SL's four tailpipes hint to the rest of the world at the brachial power that can now be tapped with the CK55 RS performance kit.

Finally, Carlsson also adapts the electronics of the 5.5 liter V8 engine, rounding off the engine tuning.

This performance makeover increases the power of the elegant roadster's engine to a mighty 601 bhp/442kW with a maximum torque of 810 Nm at 2600 rpm, definitively establishing the sporty character of the Carlsson CK55. The maximum speed is over 332km/hour*. A sprint from 0 to 100 km/hour yields an acceleration time of 4.2 seconds – from 0 to 200 km/hour takes 13.06 seconds.

No matter what alterations to the engine or performance enhancements they undertake, Carlsson's engineers rigorously ensure that the tolerance levels of the engine parts – maintained in mint condition for the most part – are not exceeded, thereby preventing damage. Likewise, Carlsson ensures that the tuned engines continue to comply with all emissions regulations.

Specifications:

Engine : 5.5 liter V8
Aspiration : supercharger
Torque : 597 lb-ft
HP : 601 hp
HP/Liter : 109.3 hp per liter
0-62 mph : 4.2 seconds
Top Speed : over 206 mph

Peugeot 908 RC: First pics

The 908 RC will be Peugeot's star turn at the Paris motor show next month.
At the heart of the 908 is hardware that will power next year's Peugeot Le Mans contender.

Peugeot 908 RCPeugeot 908 RC 2Peugeot 908 RC 3Peugeot 908 RC 4Peugeot 908 RC 5Having seen Audi waltz off with Le Mans honours on its home turf with its R10 racer, Peugeot has come up with its own turbodiesel race engine.

The Peugeot V12 HDi DPFS creates 700bhp and a road-rippling 885lb ft of torque.

All of this power will put the Peugeot in a prime spot to take on the Audi R10 racer.

However, Peugeot has not forgotten to do its bit for the environment with its new race engine, and a pair of dustbin-sized particulate filters keeps all that nasty diesel soot from spilling into the atmosphere.

The V12 engine has quite a shallow 'V' at 100-degrees and sits on top of the electronically controlled six-speed sequential gearbox.

No word on performance, but Peugeot reckons it's in with a good chance of repeating its 1993 Le Mans success.

More immediately, it looks like the 908 RC saloon will be a success with visitors to the Paris show.

Designed to have a predatory feline look, the 908 has muscular wing lines and ready-to-pounce haunches.

Helping things along are huge chrome alloy wheels, stretching to 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear.

We reckon some of the more contrived styling elements, such as the 'whiskers' just to the fore of the front wheelarches and headlights with an 'eye' in their centres, are taking things a little too far.

The body is made from race-car materials, including carbon-fibre and aluminium-honeycomb structures, while the engine is wrapped in a tubular frame.

The suspension is surprisingly humdrum for such an exotic machine and is derived from the 407 saloon's, although the carbon-ceramic brake discs and monobloc calipers are anything but ordinary.

On the inside of this slinky body is a four-seat cabin that is much more Maybach than Le Mans.

Each seat has masses of room, despite the engine sitting at the back of the 908 RC, and Peugeot has thrown every known luxury into the cockpit of its Paris show concept.

We particularly like the windscreen that arcs up and over the cabin to turn into a glass roof.

So, we've not taken leave of our senses and the 908 RC has a real purpose as a concept.

More to the point is whether Peugeot will take leave of its sensible cars and make the 908 RC a reality.

Paris motor show

As the Paris motor show lurks on the horizon, the rumour mill is working overtime in the TG office.

Peugeot has promised us something big for Friday August 11 - it's very tight-lipped at the moment but log on at 3pm to find out more.

Then on Monday afternoon we're expecting more details on the hotly anticipated new Mini. Again, set yourself a reminder to pop back to TopGear.com.

And it doesn't stop there. We've heard noises about so many potential new motors we don't know what to believe - so with an ear to the ground and a finger in the air, here's a list of some of the biggest worst-kept secrets we expect to uncover in the run up to Paris.

Ford Mondeo

Ford Mondeo The dramatic Iosis concept last year gave us an inkling of Ford's new family favourite, but we should see the real thing at the Paris show. Based on the lengthened version of the Focus floorpan, it'll likely be a bit less adventurous than the Iosis and arrive in showrooms early next year.

Alfa 8C Competizione

Alfa 8C CompetizioneAlfa has decided to do the decent thing and build a production version of the gorgeous 8C Competizione show car. It ought to be as fast as it looks, too, with a modified Maserati-based V8 pumping out around 380bhp. It's rear-drive with a bespoke cabin and should be on sale by summer 2007.

Peugeot 207 GTI and CC

Peugeot 207 GTI and CC

A couple of big new models are rumoured to be joining Peugeot's supermini line-up - a 180bhp 2.0-litre GTi version to appear next year and, no doubt, a 207CC. Both models are hot on the heels of the new GT - with its lukewarm 150bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre motor.

New Mini

New MiniWho hasn't heard about this one? We've seen countless versions of the Traveller concept first wheeled out in Frankfurt last year and we'll almost certainly see the finished article at the Paris show. In fact, we're expecting to see more details on the Mini Mk2 next week - pop back on Monday for more.

Audi R8

Audi R8We should see Audi's new R8 supercar make an appearance in Paris, too. It'll be a further refined version of the Le Mans Quattro concept first seen last year, sharing more than a few parts with the Lamborghini Gallardo and some of the technology from the Le Mans-winning R8 racer.

Renault Twingo
It's been a long time coming, this one. Sent back to the drawing board more times than we can remember, we expect to finally see the Twingo make an appearance in Paris. Think cute styling in an Aygo-sized package and you won't be far wrong. Production won't start until well into next year.

Toyota Corolla
The biggest-selling car in the world gets a makeover ready for next year. Except we don't think it'll be called Corolla...

Apart from a couple of wicked whispers about various new VW concepts, that's it. We'll keep you posted as the news arrives - and will bring you all the action from the Paris motor show in September.

BMW reveals all-new X5

It's the 4x4 that put the 'sport' into sport utility vehicle and now the new BMW X5 is looking to improve on the 'utility' part of the equation.

new bmw x5new bmw x5 2new bmw x5 3new bmw x5 4 The new X5 is BMW's first ever car with three rows of seats, sporting a pair of foldaway chairs in the boot to help the X5 compete against the likes of the Volvo XC90 and Land Rover Discovery.

The optional third-row seats are accommodated by a 190mm body stretch and 60mm widening of the new X5 compared with the old model.

BMW has also used the extra size to include a 200-litre boot when the third row seats are in place.

Do without the rear-most seats and there's a 90-litre hidden storage compartment under the boot floor.

Up-front, the dash mimics the 5-Series' and follows BMW current 'wave' design.

In the centre console, the X5 now has i-Drive but with eight shortcut buttons to save scrolling through menus on the dash-top screen. This screen can also be used with the optional rear-parking camera.

Amid all of this practicality, BMW has not forgotten to make the X5 superb to drive, and there's the firm's latest petrol and diesel engines under the bonnet.

Petrol power is taken care of by a 272bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine or the 4.8-litre V8 with 355bhp.

The V8 sees off 0-62mph in just 6.5 seconds, while the 3.0si model is no slouch either with an 8.1-second time.

The 3.0-litre turbodiesel is only fractionally slower from 0-62mph than its petrol counterpart, clocking 8.3 seconds, and it uses the same new six-speed gearbox as the petrol motors.

The diesel is set to be the big seller of the range, and its 231bhp and 32.5mpg economy make it a wise choice.

All new X5s can top 130mph, but to do this buyers will have to choose the Dynamic Package, although BMW is yet to release details of what this is.

Other firsts for the X5 in its class include run-flat tyres and a head-up display that projects essential information onto the windscreen in the driver's line of sight.

The new X5 hits UK roads in the spring of 2007 and prices are expected to be a little higher than for the current models.

4 Season Audi S4 Cabriolet: Report 12, Series Wrapup

All good things must come to an end. In the case of our 4 Season S4 Cabriolet, itself a very good thing, that end of our 12-month test cycle has arrived.

audi s4 cabriolet 4seasonaudi s4 cabriolet 4season 2audi s4 cabriolet 4season 3audi s4 cabriolet 4season 4audi s4 cabriolet 4season 5 We’ve managed to squeak a few more weeks in the car until Waterfest, though the S4 will be leaving our test fleet following that event. Between the point we close this report and the car’s departure this week, our S4 also did some additional beloved summer top-down motoring, a stint at a boarding school reunion where even partner level Wall Street traders envied our career in automotive journalism thanks to the S, a day run to Schenectady, NY for a wedding and additional guest ogling, and finally another day trip to Lime Rock’s ALMS Race for display near the Audi VIP lounge while we enjoyed a trip around the track with Alan McNish.

It’s hard not to feel like a rock star driving this car. Perhaps it was a bit undercover before we added the monster 19-inch BBS CK wheels, though from that point on the car was high-visibility to admirers and local law enforcement alike.

Between two DC based editors contributing to this series, we racked up four traffic violations in the car over a span of as many months. It’s hard to argue your way out of a ticket in a car that’s so suggestive of speed and fun.

Considering the fines and fuel costs, it’s hard not to wish you had the income of a rock star as well. While we had virtually no repair or maintenance costs to speak of during our time in the S4, the daily driving did add up. There were the tickets of course. There was also the 21mpg, the best we ever really logged on the car, which isn’t terribly bad considering the car does have a 4.2 V8 and all-wheel drive. Unfortunately, that adds up when the country is experiencing record fuel prices.

My Take (David Herlihy, Contributing Editor):

The 4 seasons S4 while in our tenure definitely earned its keep crossing the nation and putting in some heavy mileage on the East Coast mainly. While you can't say the winter was incredibly harsh in the Mid-Atlantic, thanks to global warming or El Nino or whatever theory you subscribe to, the S4 was a treat to drive in both warm and cold weather alike.

The grip from the quattro was legendary, but I wouldn't put the S4 on the list of cars I'd go pushing incredibly hard on back roads mainly due to its rather portly weight. Once pushed the weight of the S4 Cab clearly begins to tell. It's nothing drastic, but it's definitely built more for the cruising the boulevard vs. mixing it up on the back roads of the Shenendoah Valley.

If I owned this car, I might consider a mild exhaust upgrade to further release the sexy sound of that engine. On the convertible, the exhaust is already so enjoyable. The right aftermarket exhaust would really kick that up a couple of notes.

Likes:
Silky smooth V8
Effortless torque and passing power.
Great exhaust note. Sounds like an aircooled aircraft engine at idle. Lots of bass.
Looks: It's so subtle, but stylish at the same time that it goes unnoticed. Maybe that's a bad thing for many, but in this case it's a good thing.

Dislikes:
Mileage: You're lucky if you get 21mpg.
Weight. She definitely needs to go on a diet.

My Take (Anthony Garbis, Contributing Editor, Forum Administrator):

The S4 Cabriolet didn't wow me at first. The factory wheels are a bit mild and the styling is rather subtle and doesn't stand out much compared to the less expensive A4 Cabriolet. However, when the 19" BBS CKs were added, the look of the car was transformed and people took notice.

The V8 provides plentyof passing power and good acceleration, but at the cost of abysmal gas mileage. My 2,00-mile trip to Canada netted an 18.8 MPG average, mostly of highway and without the a/c on.

Considering it is a convertible, the S4 isextremely quiet and well insulated, and I often forgot I was driving a softtop.

Likes:

The navigation system. Audi integrated the nav extremely well, with a large screen in the dash and a readout in the instrument cluster. Furthermore, adding the Audi navigation plus gets you two SD card slots behind the power fold-down screen, which allows you to play MP3s. The Bose speaker system was excellent, as well.

Dislikes
To find a least favorite thing would be nitpicking, but the inability to operate the convertible top unless you are completely parked is rather cumbersome. I can recall more than one occasion when I was stuck in traffic and went to operate the top, and then the traffic started to crawl forward, and the top stopped moving. So I had to hold up traffic even more until the top, which is rather slow, locked back in place. As mentioned, this will be rectified with 2007 models this summer.

My Take (Jim Sykes, Senior Editor, SpeedArena.com):

I really did like the car. The combination of luxury and sport was right on and was a car in which I easily cruised several thousand miles without getting bounced around or feeling uncomfortable.

When I wanted it, the car was fast. I loved the interior and the navigation system and it would be a wonderful all around car to live with everyday. All that said, at $61,000, you’re paying quite a premium for those luxuries.

Likes:
The think I liked most about the car was the way it combined luxury with sport. The interior and ride was great and really made you feel comfortable when just cruising, but the power and handling was there when you wanted to get a little crazy.

Dislikes

The S4 Cabriolet looked far too plain for what was under the hood and for the price you pay for it. I want it to look different than any other A4 Cabriolet, a welcome change being implemented for 2007 B7 models.

Rinspeed Presto

RINSPEED DESIGN, the Swiss creative source for innovative automotive concepts and fantasies, presents a very special attraction on the occasion of its 25th anniversary:

RINSPEED PRESTO:

The Rinspeed Presto transforms itself in a few seconds from an under-3-meter long two-seater roadster - presto! - into a 3.7-meter long four-seater with plenty of room for the rear-seat passengers. The additional space can also be used as a pick-up bed for cargo when the rear-seat backrests are folded down.

The magical trick

This almost magical transformation is made possible by a centrally located electric motor, which stretches the vehicle with the help of two mechanical screw-and-nut gears by exactly 746 millimeters to its full extended length of 3.74 meters. The longitudinal members run on low-friction precision rollers and disappear like a drawer in the rear of the floor pan. Despite its variable length the engineers succeeded in designing the adjustable Presto floor pan with the torsional rigidity necessary for a roadster. To ensure absolute operational safety the extension mechanism also features self-locking safety latches.

Lamborghini on Track to Achieving Its Best Year Ever

Automobile Lamborghini SpA has closed the first half of this year to 30 June 2006, with a positive result.

lamborghiniSales increased during the first six months from 655 to 952 vehicles, 45% more than in the same period last year. This increase is due to a number of factors, including the market introduction of the new Gallardo Spyder, the strengthening of the dealer network and increased international clientele.

"Lamborghini is on the right track," stated Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of

Automobiles Lamborghini. "The investments the company has made, its market presence, and the commitment of its partners are the keys to this success. We are sure we will reach another sales record at the end of 2006, again strengthening our worldwide brand awareness".

Since Spring 2006 another model has been added to the Lamborghini range: the convertible Gallardo Spyder, which has proved a huge success in terms of sales and with full order books for the next 12 months.

The same level of success has been achieved by the new Murcielago LP640 presented in Geneva this year. The waiting time for this vehicle currently stands at 12 months. Automobiles Lamborghini has the potential to achieve sales records in all major continental markets.

A substantial increase of 68% has been achieved in the USA where the House of the Raging Bull sold 422 super cars, as opposed to 251 units during the same period last year.

In Europe deliveries increased by 29.3% to 335 vehicles (259 in 2005). In the major markets, deliveries have also increased: Great Britain (+ 41.4%), Italy (+ 32.6%), Germany (+ 10.3%).

Another important contribution to the expansion of Automobiles Lamborghini is its development in new markets, such as Asia and Eastern Europe. In 2006 The House of the Raging Bull inaugurated new showrooms in India and Russia, which followed the opening in China in 2004. The Lamborghini dealer network increased during the first half of 2006 from 65 to 88 dealers all over the world.

"The increased awareness of our brand through a growing dealer network makes the Lamborghini image more visible to our customers, who are evermore expectant, and who today enjoy the possibility of personally experiencing our new models with relative logistical ease. At the end of 2006 our sales network will have grown to include 100 dealers," concluded Winkelmann.

Lamborghini anticipates a very positive forecast for 2006. The deliveries in 2005 (1,600 cars) and the turnover of 243 million euros can, from today’s stand-point, be superseded.

Vectra sales on the rise

We know we're into the silly season for news now, but this is ridiculous.

vauxhall vectravauxhall vectra 2The Vauxhall Vectra has jumped in sales by a massive 263 per cent compared with this time last year.

After picking ourselves off the floor and dusting off last week's pie wrappers, we read that the Vectra found 954 willing and eager private buyers last month.

This has contributed to Vauxhall leading the chart for private sales in July 2006.

Vauxhall attributes the success to the Vectra's fine drive, excellent equipment and competitive pricing.

We reckon it's got more to do with the whopping discounts available at the mere whiff of haggling.

2006 Audi A3 Sportback by Vogtland

(from VOGTLAND Press Release) VOGTLAND Autosport has produced an uncomparable Audi A3 Sportback in collaboration with the well-known tuning and accessories specialists ITS, Rieger, FoliaTec, HJS, Sebring, Clarion and Toyo-Tires.

2006 Audi A3 Sportback2006 Audi A3 Sportback 22006 Audi A3 Sportback 32006 Audi A3 Sportback 42006 Audi A3 Sportback 5 This was a unique challenge for the VOGTLAND-Team to provide the rather young Audi A3 Sportback with a new look. The result is a A3 Sportback with maximum individuality. With this project car VOGTLAND - the German suspension specialist - has again offered an example of safe tuning with a German TUV - certificate, making an exceptional contribution to the Tuning scene with their coil over suspension and sport accessories.

It is natural that a VOGTLAND-coil over suspension with a lowering of 50 mm in the front and in the back provides an excellent contact between the wheel and street. The springs consist of a high-strength alloyed chrom-silicone steel. The coil over suspension kit is available as height and damping adjustable or only height adjustable as well as with a chromed finish.

The VOGTLAND-Team brings the outer appearance of the A3 into agreement with the company Rieger from Eggenfelden. There they assembled a spoiler boss made of ABSplastics at the front- and rear spoiler. The front spoiler has an additional spoiler sword in carbon look. The side skirts are also in the look of the material from the motor sports. The true to size and high-quality floodlight blinds provide an aggressive look including overtaking prestige.

For the perfect finish the A3 got the roof spoiler in the high version, which has - as all parts from Rieger - a TUV-certificate.

The wheel rims called Titanium RS1 Chrome with the size 8.5 x 19 inch are an innovation from ITS - the difference from Roetgen. The wheel rims are tripartite and consist to some extent of a titanium-aluminium-composition which comes from the aerospace. The outcome of this is a very low weight of the rim. The external rim sheet consists of high-grade steel, which is polished on high gloss by hand
The rims allow enough space for the gigantic brake system from the company ITS.

So a 6-pot brake system works on the front axle with a diameter of the brake disk of 360 mm. The brake system offers first-class deceleration and already proved its durability at numerous racings at the Nьrburgring north loop line. Concerning the tyres VOGTLAND trusts in the Toyo Proxes T1-R. The Toyos combine excellent handling with brilliant wetness characteristics and a low noise level. The glass-tinge-foil from Folia Tec helps to prevent strong heating of the interior of the car by insolation.

The Clarion VRX848RVD is for the right sound and entertainment. It has numerous playback/rendition-media like radio, CD, MP3 and DVD. And if you get lost on your way the navigation unit from Clarion will help you to get into the right direction.

A Sebring-Twister exhaust pipe made of high-grade steel is responsible for the fitting motor sound outside the car. So that you can enjoy the Sebring exhaust sound without having a bad conscience the exhaust gases will be cleaned by a soot filter from the company HJS from Menden.

As we are the importeurs of the brand SPARCO the VOGTLAND-Team has - of course - attached some products of the Italian sports specialist in the A3. VOGTLAND says THANK YOU to all the involved partners for their engagement !

New AMG C-Class revealed

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz... and make it a CLK 63 while you're at it.

mercedes amg c-class Yes, the loons at AMG have shoved their 6.2-litre V8 engine into the unsuspecting CLK coupe and cabriolet models.

We love their approach and applaud the CLK 63 AMG for having 481bhp and seeing off 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds, although the top speed is nannied at a limited 155mph.

The suspension and brakes have come in for the usual AMG attention, and there's also a bodykit and 18in alloy wheels to tell the world you've spent £65,215 on the coupe or a further £3,600 for the cabriolet.

For this sort of cash, you also get AMG's new steering wheel design with shift paddles for the seven-speed auto 'box.

For those who feel the AMG may be a trifle gauche, Mercedes has popped its latest 5.5-litre V8 into the CLK 500. It makes do with just 388bhp and 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds.

If the subtle approach to V8 hoonery in a Merc takes your fancy, the CLK 500 coupe costs from £47,490 and the cabriolet form £51,090.

Citroen shows off new C4 Picasso

Citroen is on a bit of a roll lately, what with the C1, C4 and C6 all having the sort of looks that don't make you sink in the seat when you drive past your mates.

citroen c4 picassocitroen c4 picassocitroen c4 picassocitroen c4 picasso Now, those cunning French have done it again, only this time you can take your mates along for the ride in the new seven-seat C4 Picasso.

Gone is the gawky, egg-shaped look of the Xsara Picasso and in its place comes crisp lines. A panoramic windscreen reaches up and over where you'd normally expect it to stop, while large front-quarter windows should give excellent vision. There's also a giant sunroof available to give the C4 Picasso's cabin a very airy feel.

The second and third rows of seats all fold flat into the floor, so there's no need to remove them, and Citroen says it has come up with the best system for this yet. To gain access to the third row, a button on the side of each outer middle row seat flips up the backrest and slides the seat forward one movement.

Other features to make the interior more pleasant include automatic air-conditioning, laminated side windows to reduce noise entering from outside, and an air quality sensor that prevents pollutants from entering the cabin.

In a bid to make the C4 Picasso as comfortable as possible for passengers, Citroen has employed some of its old magic to come up with rear air suspension.

Also on offer will be Citroen's new parking space measurement system, to help those who find parallel parking a bit tricky.

A 2.0-litre petrol engine with 143bhp will be on offer from launch, alongside 110- and 138bhp turbodiesels. All come with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The C4 Picasso makes its debut at next month's Paris motor show and UK prices should start around the £17,000 mark.

The Xsara Picasso will continue to be sold alongside the C4 model as a budget MPV.

Super-luxury saloon comes fully loaded

When Maybach is just passe and a Rolls-Royce Phantom much too common, you'll be the sort of person looking for a DiMora Natalia SLS2.

dimora natalia With styling that harks back to luxury saloons of the 1930s, the Natalia is aimed at the world's most discerning buyers.

It can be ordered with paint that changes colour depending on the ambient temperature, in order to help keep the car cooler.

It can also be had with headlights that double up as film projectors when parked up, although we suspect the chauffeur may get more use out of this feature.

Other essentials for the world's wealthiest are heat-adjustable cup holders and an automatic corkscrew.

For those in the back seats, the electronically controlled ride has 60 sensors to keep things comfortable.

Four-wheel drive is standard, as is a 14.0-litre V16 engine with 1,200bhp.

The only small drawbacks with the DiMora Natalia is that none have been built so far and the price is expected to come in around $2 million (£1.1 million).
