Cadillac SRX comes to Geneva

GM seems to look at 2009 as the only way it can get back on the saddle. In many respects, this might very well be true. GM has been struggling for months now to keep its business afloat and one of the ways it thinks this can be achieved is by becoming visible to consumers.

After announcing earlier today that the Geneva Show will witness no less than four Corvette sports cars, GM will also widen its Cadillac range. Geneva will be the place were the new SRX will be premiered. The 3.0l V6 engine that powers the car uses he latest technology of direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, which allows it to achieve optimal fuel economy
and a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

Cadillac SRX benefits from an all-wheel-drive system that uses an electronically regulated limited-slip rear differential (eLSD) to transfer power front and rear, as well as divided left and right. The differential directs up to 100 percent of engine torque to the wheel with the most traction.

The all-new SRX rides on wide 1910 mm tracks, while both length and height dimensions are reduced compared to the current model. The SRX was design to meet European pedestrian protection standards and has a lowered front bumper.

Simply put, this crossover is for people who value performance and utility,“ Mark McNabb, Cadillac vice president said.

2010 Cadillac SRX playing in the snow - video

So General Motors might be a little low on cash these days, but some of the best things in life are free. Take for example some engineers (or possibly marketing people) having some fun playing out in the snow while testing the upcoming 2010 Cadillac SRX. We’ve seen plenty of preview material on this car, but we’ll be able to reveal the production specs when the official debut is made at January’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

2010 Cadillac SRX spied

Our inside sources tell us Cadillac is very close to officially debuting its 2010 SRX crossover, but they can take their sweet time now that we have these new spy shots of the Wreath and Crest CUV in nothing but some checkered tape. With all the baggy covering gone from this prototype, we can clearly see its styling closely mimics that of the Provoq Concept, which Rick Wagoner introduced at CES last January.

There are a couple of areas where the realities of production have toned down the concept's flair, but the vehicle's overall shape and detail remains. Built on GM's Theta Premium platform, the new SRX replaces the old model that was larger and a surprisingly poor seller. It was surprising because the old SRX was an athletic CUV that seemed to offer on paper what buyers wanted. This new model appears to be a smidge smaller and will likely offer more fuel efficient engines and a smoother ride.
