Next Gen VW Touran MPV Mule – spied pics

The next Volkswagen Touran has been spied testing on the streets with a trailer in tow. Though the mule uses the current Touran facelift for its body, underneath there lies the next-generation model. The Touran will take on the brand's new face which can already be seen on the Scirocco, the Golf VI and the new Polo. VW's versatile vehicle has been in the market since 2003 and it received a facelift in 2007.

Next Gen VW Touran MPV Mule-1Next Gen VW Touran MPV Mule-2Speculation is that because the current car, which is based on the expensive to build Golf V platform, VW is moving the next one's release date up in order to take advantage of the cheaper Golf VI platform.

Engines expected include the 1.4-litre TSI and the 1.6-litre. Turbo diesels are also popular in this segment so the 1.9 TDI as well as the 2.0 TDI will form the lineup. Mated to these engines are two gearboxes, the familiar 6-speed manual and the new 7-speed DSG.

Gadgets on the menu would be things like the self-park function, touch screen satellite navigation and lane assist.

It would not be a surprise to see the Touran at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

VW Scirocco R20T in Racing Guise at Nurburgring

Spy photographers of the Motortrend just caught Volkswagen's latest hot iteration of the Scirocco roaming the streets surrounding the Nurburgring. We take the sponsor decals to mean that VW is prepping the hot hatch for its reported launch at the ADAC Zurich 24 Hour Race next week.

VW Scirocco R20T-1VW Scirocco R20T-2Note that this VW Scirocco R20T lacks a roll cage, likely relegating its track duties to the parade type. Otherwise, the R20T visual treatment features a more aggressive front end with larger intakes, a new rear spoiler, and an exhaust tip protruding from each end of the rear bumper. The Audi S3-derived, turbo 2.0L under hood should generate somewhere between 270 hp and 300 hp.

Along with this Scirocco, we also expect VW to unveil the Golf R20 at the 24 hour race. Stay tuned, the festivities begin May 21.

Although the new Vw Golf VI was recently launched, ABT Sportsline, the well-known German tuner specialized in what else than German vehicles, released today its new tuning programme for the stylish hatchback. The new programme comes with a new front bumper, new front grille, side sills, a rear roof spoiler and a new rear air diffuser with integrated 4-pipe exhaust system designed just like the one found on the Lexus IS-F. Vw Golf VI by ABT Sportsline-1Vw Golf VI by ABT Sportsline-2The modifications don’t stop here because the tuner improved also the engine as it follows: the 1.4-liter TSI engine develops now 160 hp or 200 hp, depending of the type of software, instead of 122 hp found on the standard engine; the 2.0-liter FSI engine was boosted to 240 hp while the 2.0-liter diesel engine develops 170 hp from 140. The price was not yet revealed by the manufacturer but we expect it after the car will make its official debut at this year’s Essen Motor Show.

The VW Scirocco from NFS video game to be on display in Essen

EA Games’ “Need for Speed” is probably one of the most popular car video games ever, and its latest installment, Need for Speed Undercover features a bunch of extra cool cars. We’ve already written about the new Nissan 370Z showing up in the game, and this time we’re gonna talk about a special version of the Volkswagen Scirocco, created for the game. But what’s really cool about this car is that there’s also a real version, built by VW Individual, under the supervision of Vau-Max.de founder, Thomas Ebeling.

VW SciroccoStarting from a 200 hp 2.0 TSI model, the team created a new body kit, with new front apron, rear bumper, side skirts, Folienbeklebung (side, below the character line, tailgate and rear bumper and rear lights and front bumper) disc tint from B-pillar, EA logo on the bonnet, fuel and left C-pillar. They’ve also made some mechanical upgrades, like new KW-Thread suspension Variant 1 kit, added 345mm front brake discs from the Golf R32, and also added new 19 inch wheels.

The interior features leather all over the place, headrests EA logo laser etched on leather, aluminum steering wheel with “Need for Speed Undercover” logo and a new impressive entertainment system.

2008 Volkswagen Eos Review

Introduction
Like a little brother wanting so much to emulate his bigger bro, Volkswagen wants its image to be more like that of its upscale sibling -- Audi. It's certainly not a bad aspiration, but when the company goes hog wild, as it did with the super nice but super expensive Phaeton luxury sedan, VW loses touch with the populace. The 2008 Volkswagen Eos, however, strikes a happy medium between being just the "people's car" and a true luxury vehicle with a luxury price tag.

2008 Volkswagen Eos2008 Volkswagen Eos-22008 Volkswagen Eos-3Introduced just last year, the Eos is a compact hardtop convertible based on a shortened version of the Passat's platform. It starts at around 30 grand and boasts greater refinement and luxury than similarly priced rivals while being priced thousands less than other Euro-bred drop tops. In addition to the added comfort and security that come with any folding metal top, the Eos' retracting roof features a built-in power sunroof. If it's too chilly to drop the roof, you can slide open the sunroof just as you would with a sunroof-equipped coupe.

Although Volkswagen offers both a 200-horsepower turbocharged inline four-cylinder and a 250-hp V6 in the Eos, one needn't upgrade to the six to get brisk performance. That said, this VW isn't geared toward hard-core enthusiasts despite its sporty looks. Volkswagen's hardtop convertible is certainly composed and enjoyable on back roads, but ultimately, the Eos is more grand tourer than sports machine.

This year, the Eos' trim levels are revised. The former base trim is replaced by the Turbo; last year's 2.0T is replaced by the Komfort; the former 3.2L is renamed VR6; and a new Lux trim debuts. The Lux offers the luxury features of the Eos VR6 on the four-cylinder model, resulting in a substantial savings for buyers who care more about amenities than cylinder count.

Equipped with that turbocharged-4, the 2008 Volkswagen Eos is a keen choice in the convertible market, a market that also includes models like the Chrysler Sebring, Ford Mustang GT, Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT, Pontiac G6 and Toyota Camry Solara. The Mustang and Eclipse will beat the Eos in a straight line but fall short in refinement and rear-seat space. The Pontiac also features a retractable hardtop, but its execution is nowhere near as polished as the VW's. The roomy Toyota is a solid choice if you don't mind a cloth top, though its complete lack of athleticism will turn off those who enjoy driving.

2008 VW Jetta Sportwagen

For those of you impatiently waiting for the VW Jetta Sportwagen, there's something new over at VW.com to keep you busy a few more days. Along with photos of the car inside and out, there are stats, options and a base price that's closer to the true price than the rough estimate we had before. Entry-level price for the anxiously-awaited wagon is $24,500. The site says you get an 8-speaker stereo with aux-in, ABS and traction control for that number.

2008 VW Jetta Sportwagen2008 VW Jetta Sportwagen-2We assume that's with the 5-speed and 170 hp, 2.5 liter gasoline engine that gets 21 city, 29 highway. Which ain't too bad, actually, but not nearly as good as the mid-50s highway mileage the site brags about for the optional TDI. Sadly, there's no mention of how much you'll pay for ticking the TDI box on the option sheet. Or for the 6-speed Tiptronic or the panoramic sunroof or those sweet-looking leather seats. VW also let slip on the site that the Tiguan will be available this spring.

2009 Volkswagen Passat CC Preview

The destined-for-production model unveiled at Volkswagen's Detroit show stand undeniably has more than a little extra dash of panache compared to the Passat sedan.

2009 Volkswagen Passat CCThe so-called 2009 Volkswagen Passat CC not only bears the name of one of one of America's most popular on-a-budget family sedans; it has a similar size overall, too. Just a little bit of utility is sacrificed for a lot more style and flair, along with a host of high-tech features, to create a product that promises to be more desirable and exclusive.

Having learned its lesson with the big, expensive Phaeton, VW looks to be reaching upscale from the Passat with a new, more incremental strategy as it bolsters its product line with products like the upcoming Tiguan.

The swoopy, "four-door coupe" design is supported with details that maintain the car's luster up close and do set it apart from the mainstream Passat, like frameless doors and a contrasting mix of smooth transitions, such as that from the back window seamlessly into the trunk, and expressive creases, such as those which form behind the front wheels, become bolder, and form a sharp crease that wraps around and functions as a decklid spoiler.

In Europe, the Passat CC will come with a variety of engines, including two different common-rail turbodiesel four-cylinder engines and three different direct-injection gasoline four- and six-cylinder engines. In the U.S., the Passat CC will come with the same powertrains as the pedestrian Passat - either with VW's familiar 2.0-liter FSI turbocharged four-cylinder, making 200 horsepower, or with the 280-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 and 4Motion all-wheel drive. A six-speed manual or six-speed automatic will be offered on the 2.0 FSI, while the 3.6 will get a six-speed automatic with Tiptronic shift control.

Tokyo show: VW grows up

Japan may be the land of the miniature solution, but VW's up! Concept has grown for its visit to Tokyo.

VolkswagenVolkswagen-2Volkswagen-3This is the space up, minivan version of Volkswagen's baby city car we saw back in Frankfurt. Unveiled at the Tokyo show, it sits on a longer wheelbase than its three-door sister, and has grown in length by 23cm and height by 40cm.

However, the space up! (anyone else hating that name already?) is still 15cm shorter than the VW Fox - seriously dinky for a four-seater.

The clean lines (or contrived retroism, depending on your point of view) of the styling remain similar to the original up!, and the engine is still strung out at the rear. VW is still touting the flexibility of the concept, and reckons it could be powered by a petrol, diesel or electric motor.

Insiders reckon we could see two- and three-cylinder engines powering the production up!, depending on the market: expect China and India to get the most frugal, low-cost versions, while Europe could see higher-powered variants.

VW has promised yet another up! concept at the Detroit show early next year. We're not expecting a coupe-convertible, but in this crazy world of lower-case proper nouns and unexpected exclamation marks, anything could happen.

VW Proton Talks Sputter

The Malaysian government, which controls automaker Proton, said it will not provide a financial bailout for the struggling company, now that it appears discussions have broken off once again with Volkswagen.

VW ProtonBoth VW and General Motors had expressed an interest in acquiring a stake in Proton, but neither automaker made an offer by the government's late-March deadline.

Instead, VW now appears to be looking at establishing a regional assembly facility in nearby Indonesia, according to government officials in Jakarta. Among the company's alternatives is a tie-up with a local assembly partner in Indonesia.

Volkswagen Golf Plus Dune

Summer must be on the way, for the rough-and-tumble faux offroaders are out in force.

Following the Renault Scenic Conquest and the Seat Altea Freetrack to the plastic body panel party is Volkswagen's effort: the Golf Plus Dune.

Volkswagen Golf Plus DuneVolkswagen Golf Plus Dune 2Yes, it's an ever-so-hardy variant of the Golf Plus, designed to appeal to people who like the countryside but wish it wasn't full of scary things like wasps and nettles.

Ticking the obligatory boxes, the Golf Plus Dune gets a raised ride height, plastic front and rear guards, silver roof rails and something worryingly described as 'durable plastic rubbing strips'. We're not even going to ask.

It's powered by VW's 1.9-litre turbodiesel, which will return a countryside-friendly 50.4mpg while reaching 62mph in a hedgehog-scaring 12.1 seconds.

Priced at £18,495, the Golf Plus Dune is to be strictly limited to a production run of 400 vehicles.

Golf GTI W12

Volkswagen has revealed details of a 650bhp mid-engined Golf GTi design study.

Called the GTi W12-650 (you can see what they've done there), it uses a bi-turbo W12 engine producing 553lb ft torque through the rear wheels.

Golf GTI W12Golf GTI W12 2Golf GTI W12 3This, according to VW, means 0-62mph in just 3.7secs and a top speed of 184mph.

The engine sits directly behind the front seats on a unique aluminium structure and a heavily modified bodyshell features integrated vents to keep things cool. Look closely and you'll see the rear quarter windows curve into the C-pillars.

Designers said they wanted to keep the shape as close to the character of the original car as possible, so opted to develop a carbon-fibre roof that also acts as a diffuser.

Inside, there are even more mods for pure performance - unnecessary kit is stripped out, and race-inspired details such as flip-up switch guards and a fire extinguisher feature.

So far the GTi W12-650 is nothing more than a design study, but there's always hope, I guess...
