2009 MTM Bentley Continental GT Birkin Edition

(from MTM Press Release) MTM's Birkin Edition upgrades performance of Bentley standard model

– 650 Hp and 795 Nm with the Birkin Edition kit for the Continental GT, GTC, Flying Spur, GT Speed, GTC Speed and Continental Supersports
– Unbeatable: the 331 km/h world record with MTM's Bentley Continental GT still stands after three years.
– Exclusive 21-inch "bimoto" alloy rims.

2009 MTM Bentley Continental GT Birkin EditionEven though Bentley offers greater power and performance in the new Speed version standard models, the special series offer 650 Hp performance in addition to an exclusive sporty look. After nearly three years, the 331 km/h world record still stands – achieved by a sportscar with the MTM Bentley Continental GT. With MTM's Birkin Edition kit, the Continental GT, GTC and Flying Spur series can be upgraded with an exclusive and sporty look, fully in line with the legendary Bentley Boys, who exerted such an influence on the racing scene around 75 years ago.

The modified performance data with which MTM has revived the Bentley cannot be documented in purely technical terms, but performance is also proved on the track in the true sense of the word "experience". The MTM Bentley took three seconds off the standard counterpart on the short Hockenheim circuit, and also three seconds in the 0 to 200 km/h sprint, which the MTM Bolide achieved in 15.9 seconds. No wonder: With his great love for detail and technical efficiency, the developer Roland Mayer pushed the crucial 90 more Hp out of the 12-cylinder standard engine at Wettstetten near Ingolstadt. 650 Hp is the result, and the in-house performance tests recorded 795 Nm, supported by a perfectly coordinated exhaust system with muffler and throttle control which, in addition to the increased performance, delivers a beguiling sound.

As far as the optics and external appearance are concerned, MTM has made no obvious changes to the bodywork. The four-pipe exhaust system with MTM's F-Cantronic gives the tail its visual effect: approximately 30 mm lower than in the standard series. The small intelligent electronic control unit lowers the 2.4-tonner by 35 mm at the rear axle and by around 25 mm at the front axle. Combined with 21-inch alloy rims, the timeless Bimoto design lends an exclusive, sportier look to the Bentley, which not only offers more dynamics to buyers of new vehicles, but will also appeal to those who already drive a Bentley.

EUR 20,000 incl. VAT. MTM throws in the VAT, TЬV certification and assembly in the Birkin edition kit. Those who are still not satisfied can fall back on the MTM Individual program which, as the name implies, customises according to the buyer's wishes.

Bentley Supersports Biofuel

Well, whatever they eventually name it, it seems not even ultra-luxury automakers like Bentley are immune to the required eco-sensitivity of our times. And why not? We should all do our part. If Willie Nelson can start a bio-diesel fuel company then, yes, Bentley should have this. At the Geneva auto salon earlier this year Bentley premiered a Continental GT that runs on ethanol and called it the Continental Supersports, for lack of a more appropriate name, apparently.

Bentley Supersports Biofuel -1Bentley Supersports Biofuel -2And the upside is that the E85 version is a better performer, upping the power quotient on the 6.0 liter W12 engine to 630 hp, 20 hp more than the GT Speed and 78 more than the standard Continental GT. 0 to 100 km/h comes in at under 4 seconds (3.9 s). Another marked improvement over the GT and GT Speed, which come in at 4.8 and 4.5 seconds, respectively. There's also a modest jump in top speed - 329 km/h compared to 322 (GT Speed) and 318 km/h (Continental GT).

But the improved performance does not necessarily reflect the power of the E85 (ethanol) fuel. Bentley has put the Continental on a diet to the tune of 110 less kilograms through the use of carbon fiber components. There's also a new Quickshift gearbox that makes changes twice as fast as the previous iteration of the transmission. It also has a wider track at the rear by 50 millimeters.

The spy shots seen here are of the Continental Supersports arriving at the track at Nurburgring for a little exercise. Cosmetic differences to the standard Continental GT are minimal, with a different rear bumper and tailpipes and larger air intakes at the front, which improve cooling to also help increase those performance numbers.

Whoever will be driving this, though, you can bet they won't be whistling On the Road Again. Willie, you interested?

Bentley Continental Supersports

Bentley Continental Supersports is the fastest and most powerful Bentley ever. It is the extreme Bentley, a muscular two-seater that delivers supercar performance and a highly focused driving experience. The Supersports is also the first Bentley capable of running on both petrol (gasoline) and biofuel, pioneering the use of FlexFuel technology in the luxury sector. This represents stage one of the company’s commitment to make its complete model range compatible with renewable fuels by 2012.

Bentley Continental Supersports-1Bentley Continental Supersports-2Available worldwide from autumn 2009, the Continental Supersports will be FlexFuel compatible in the majority of markets from launch with North American cars offering the capability by summer 2010, following regulatory approval. The Continental Supersports began as an ‘under the radar’ project exploring the possibilities of weight reduction on the Continental GT but with more power and torque. A largely experimental process crystallised over a period of 24 months into an official new car programme, driven by the passion and enthusiasm of a small group of Bentley engineers and designers.

The results are dramatic. With 630PS (621 bhp) and new ‘Quickshift’ transmission that halves shift times, the Supersports sets new performance benchmarks for Bentley. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds) onto a top speed of 204 mph (329 km/h). Supercar performance is complemented by an array of chassis enhancements including retuned steering and suspension, utilising lighter weight components, retuned dampers and anti-roll bars.

Agility is further sharpened by the 40:60 rear-biased torque split for the all-wheel drive system, a wider rear track, bespoke lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels and a unique electronic stability programme. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard fitment, benefiting steering response, grip and ride comfort, while saving weight. Overall, the engineering team have achieved a weight reduction of 110 kg (243 lb) compared with the Continental GT Speed.

The Supersports is further distinguished from its Continental coupe stable mates by a unique dark-smoked steel finish to all exterior ‘brightware’, including front grilles, lamp bezels, window surrounds and wheels. A complex ‘Physical Vapour Deposition’ process is applied to all stainless steel components to give a lustrous and highly durable finish. A car industry first, this process is normally used as a coating on industrial tools, watches and even hip replacement joints.

Bentley Supersports is a strict two-seater featuring all-new lightweight sports seats with carbon fibre clamshell rear panels. In the rear compartment, the seats are replaced by a stowage deck with a carbon fibre luggage retaining beam.

2009 Bentley Continental GTC Speed

(from Bentley Press Release) The 200 mph GTC Speed is Bentley’s most powerful convertible ever. The latest GTC range is refined and extended with two new models The new GTC delivers enhanced style, comfort and choice

2009 Bentley Continental GTC Speed-12009 Bentley Continental GTC Speed-2Now, the introduction of the new GTC range builds on this success with a subtle evolution of its distinctive style and a range of technical and feature enhancements benefiting comfort and customer choice. The appeal of the GTC is further strengthened by the addition of the new 600bhp (610PS) GTC Speed model. It is Bentley’s most powerful convertible ever and inspired by Bentley’s legendary ‘Speed Models’ from the 1920s.

The new GTC models share a fresh frontal appearance. The radiator grille is more upright with a more pronounced square edge, accentuating the Bentley profile, and bolder lower air intake. These latest models are further distinguished by chrome headlamp bezels, the availability of two new exterior paints and a new colour hide.

For the standard GTC, new low-friction dampers provide improved ride comfort. In addition, two significant new options may be specified on both GTC models: lightweight, fade-resistant, carbon-ceramic brakes, the largest production passenger car brakes in the world, and a sophisticated follow-to-stop Adaptive Cruise Control system with long-range radar sensor that monitors traffic ahead and manages throttle and brakes to maintain a driver-selected time gap.

The GTC’s chassis and exceptionally rigid steel body have proved more than capable of coping with the power of the 552bhp (560PS) 6-litre W12 engine. For the new Continental GTC Speed, Bentley’s twin-turbocharged W12 now develops 600bhp (610PS) that delivers true 200 mph (322 km/h) performance, with the roof up, with exhilarating, effortless acceleration. Even with the roof down the GTC Speed can reach 195 mph (312 km/h).

The Continental GTC Speed is visually distinguished by subtle design enhancements which emphasise its higher performance credentials. At the front, the radiator and lower air intake grilles feature a dark tinted matrix as standard. Larger diameter 9.5J x 20-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels with Bentley-bespoke Pirelli PZero ultra-high performance (UHP) tyres, lowered and uprated suspension, wider twin-rifled exhaust tail pipes and a new boot-mounted lip spoiler that enhances high speed aerodynamics, reinforce the sporting character of the Speed model.

We would never have thought to use a supercar sedan for a romp among the sand dunes, but in this video you will find the off-road qualities of the Bentley Continental GTC clearly on display. The Bentley in the sand dunes doesn’t appear to have too much difficulty, though it’s a rather strange way to enjoy a cabriolet that costs 210,000 euros.

2009 Bentley Azure T

(from Bentley press release) Stylish and powerful, the new Bentley Azure T is the world’s most elegant convertible and destined to become a future classic. With unique Bentley ‘T’ styling cues reinforcing its sporting stance, the 500bhp Azure T delivers driver-focused performance with the ability to transport four adults in first-class, open-top luxury.

2009 Bentley Azure T-12009 Bentley Azure T-2The new Azure T, specified with the high performance version of Crewe’s iconic 6ѕ litre V8 engine, is the latest in a line of Bentley models to bear the ‘T’ legend. The 1996 Continental coupe was the first modern Bentley ‘T’, followed in 2002 by the Arnage T, both flagship models with a distinctive sporting character and thunderous performance.

The Azure’s already striking form is now enhanced by 20-inch 5-spoke wheels and tyres, ‘Le Mans’ front wing vents, dark tint matrix grille and a sculpted, retractable Flying ‘B’ mascot.

For the performance-oriented Azure T, the twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces 500bhp and 1000 Nm of torque – an 11 per cent increase in power and a 14 per cent increase in torque over its 450bhp/875 Nm Azure stable mate.

The famous Bentley wave of torque is even more prodigious than before and performance is significantly raised with a top speed of 179 mph (288 km/h) and a 0-60 mph time of just 5.2 seconds (0-100 km/h in 5.5 sec).

ASI Tetsu Bentley GTR - SEMA 2008

The heavily modified Bentley Continental GT packs a galloping 800 horsepower under the hood. It’s good to know the boys and girls who drag their work to SEMA are capable of backing up over-the-top exterior modifications with knee-liquefying power.

ASI Tetsu Bentley GTRThe matte ride is branded the ASI Tetsu GTR, and while the seriously sculpted body work is a far cry from the car Walter built, we’ve got to say there’s something about it that tickles my fancy. Maybe it’s the flat paint. Black is cool, but that white just looks good enough to eat whole.

2009 Bentley Continental GT Speed

Bentley Continental GT Speed weighs a staggering 2350kg and can travel at an obscenely fast 326km/h (that’s 202mph) the first Bentley production car to hit the crash through the 200mph barrier. Acceleration from 0-100km/h will take you just 4.5 seconds or quicker than BMW’s M5. Not only that, the Speed can match the M5 in the S-bends too.

2009 Bentley Continental GT Speed-12009 Bentley Continental GT Speed-22009 Bentley Continental GT Speed-3Although the engine is essentially the same as in the standard Continental GT, its been tuned to deliver more grunt. Step on the drilled alloy accelerator pedal and get ready for a serious g-force assault. Initially – it feels like the Bugatti Veyron boosting up, as the torque driven acceleration for a car of these proportions, seems positively unnatural.

Power is up nine percent to 449kW and torque has jumped by 15 percent to a huge 750Nm. Despite the substantial increase though, the Speed is only marginally quicker than its GT sibling. Either way, life at full throttle in any Bentley Continental GT, is just a blur.

The Speed’s extra wide 20-inch, 26-spoke forged alloys (the GT gets 19-inch wheels) would have to rate as the word’s best looking wheels, and shod with specially made Pirelli 275/30ZR20 P-ZERO rubber, grip levels through tight bends mean that the laws of physics as I know them, have been re-written by the Bentley boys.

However, when you are dealing in the over $420,000 league, standard is never enough, and optional carbon ceramics are all but mandatory, despite the $30,000 price tag. As always, you get what you pay for, try 420mm x 40mm cross-drilled front discs and 356mm on the rear with eight-piston callipers! With over $450,000 worth of car sitting in your driveway its hard not to feel better than the bloke next door with his unwashed diesel powered VW Polo, but at least he owns his!

Bentley Continental GTC Speed spied

These are the first images of what will become the convertible version of the Bentley GT Speed - likely to be named the GTC Speed.

Spied here at the Nurburgring, it will become the fastest drop-top Bentley has built in its 90-year long history.

Bentley Continental GTC Speed -1Bentley Continental GTC Speed -2Power is likely to be on par with its hard-top sibling, developing around 550kW from its twin-turbocharged W12 engine.

From a standstill, the GTC Speed should take just 4.5 seconds to reach 100km/h and keep going to a top speed beyond 320km/h.

As with its ‘Speed’ spec coupe sibling, the GTC Speed will boast wider wheels compared to the standard GT and more prominent exhaust pipes.

However to accommodate its folding roof, it seems the rear spoiler has shrunk slightly.

Bentley Arnage – Final Series

It’s been 10 years since the four-door flagship of the Bentley range was released. 1998 saw the introduction of the Arnage - a stately, luxurious sedan with all the Bentley hallmarks of immense torque, precise handling and cossetting opulence. Today Bentley has announced that the last run of Arnages will be released under the Final Series banner.

Bentley Arnage-1Bentley Arnage-2A run of 150 cars will be built, but then folks, it’s all over. 90 years of tradition is wrapped up in these last cars, and it also marks the 50th anniversary of the 6.75-litre V8 that we’ve come to know in so many Bentleys. However the real kicker in the press release is this line: “Arnage Final Series also signals the end of an era, as Bentley prepares for the future.”

Bentley has also moved with the times, with the entertainment centre head unit getting an SD card slot, and IPod input, as well as USB, Mini USB, and a 3.5mm auxillary jack. Of course, Naim audio is standard.

But it’s under the bonnet that things really heat up. Using the same engine as the Brooklands, the Arnage final series gets the full-welly twin turbocharged V8, with 373kW and a colossal 1000Nm of torque. ZF’s supreme six-speed automatic bolts up to it for smooth shifting, and it will move this 2.6-tonne sedan from 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds.

“The Final Series is the perfect model to give our Arnage flagship a splendid send off,” said Stuart McCullough, Member of the Board, Sales and Marketing. “Handcrafted at Crewe, this exclusive run of 150 cars represents the ultimate expression of Bentley luxury and effortless power.”

Bentlummer - What is it??

So has Bentley finally gone ahead and built that much-rumoured SUV it has been muttering about for years?

No, it hasn't. This thing, this assault on your poor innocent eyes, is - as you might have guessed - a Hummer modified to look like a Bentley. And painted gold. Very gold.

Bentlummer-1Bentlummer-2Why? We really don't know. Suffice to say it hails from that capital of car couture, Dubai, and that the owner is heavily weighing down one end of the Money-Sense scales. We'll let you decide which end.

We mock, but we've a horrible, sneaking suspicion that this might be the next big thing among the Premiership elite. Can't decide between a Bentley and a Hummer? Have both. Bolt an Aston to the roof and you're there...

2009 Bentley Continental Flying Spur

(from Bentley Press Release) With typical Bentley understatement the styling of the new Continental Flying Spur is both evolutionary and subtly effective. At the front, the new bright chrome radiator grille, now more vertical, has a more pronounced square edge, accentuating the distinctive Bentley profile.

Beneath the grille, the new lower bumper features a wider, bolder central air intake. The black matrix grille also provides a 14 percent increase in airflow for the more powerful Speed version and the charge cooler intakes are positioned on the corners. The lower grilles may also be specified in bright chrome to complement that of the main radiator. Chromed bezels around the headlamps complement the new frontal design.

2009 Bentley Continental Flying Spur-12009 Bentley Continental Flying Spur-2At the rear, the new bumper with black lower valance and wraparound chrome trims make for a more slender appearance that is complemented by new chromed tail lamp bezels. Director of Design, Dirk van Braeckel explains the styling evolution:

“The Flying Spur is instantly recognisable on the road and we were keen to retain its individuality. The subtle styling changes have given the car a fresh look at the front and sleeker, more balanced appearance at the rear.”

At the heart of the Continental Flying Spur is Bentley’s 6-litre, twin turbocharged W12 engine, the most compact 12-cylinder engine in production. The 48-valve head employs four camshafts and continually variable valve timing. Power is transmitted via an uprated ZF six-speed automatic transmission. The W12 engine continues to produce 552bhp (560PS/412kW) at 6100 rev/min and a maximum torque of 650Nm (479lb ft) from 1600 rev/min across virtually the entire rev range. In common with all Continental models, the Flying Spur employs a complex four-link suspension at the front and a trapezoidal multi-link system at the rear.

Additions to the 2009 Flying Spur palette include two new hide colours (Linen and Imperial Blue) as well as three new standard exterior paint colours (Havana, White Sand and Onyx). Four unique duo-tone paint combinations (Havana, Dark Sapphire, Onyx and Midnight Emerald) are available for the first time on the Continental family.

Bentley Continental GT gets hand painted

Japanese art has a way for driving itself into anything and turning up as a perfect blend of ethnic style and feel. The Bentley Continental GT has experience the similar thrill of Japanese art in 29 models of theirs that will be available after a touch is given to them. The hoods of these 29 vehicles will bear designs by Nakamura Tetsuei. The cars have a whopping 800 hp oozing out of them, all thanks to the newly added 6.0L W12 engine to them.

Bentley Continental GT-1Bentley Continental GT-2Bentley Continental GT-3The Bentley could always do with some extra body mods and this kit looks pretty interesting. I still wonder how many people fall for floral designs on sexy super cars these days. I mean, aren’t we over the seventies yet?

The worst part of any investment is paying. Well, if you are investing for a few double takes from people on the road then you can keep the $800,000 ready to blow up on a flowery Bentley.

Really Long-Wheelbase Bentley Arnage - Spy Shots

While Bentley continues to achieve sales success with its Continental line of cars that includes the GT, Flying Spur, GTC and new GT Speed, the upper-level Arnage line has been left to get by on its old world charm and bespoke everything hand-built construction. We showed you some spy shots of the next-gen Arnage back in April that suggests Bentley may position the next-gen Arnage as a direct competitor to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, and whether that's the case or not, the next Arnage will most certainly continue catering to the wealthiest 1% of the world.

Bentley Arnage-1Bentley Arnage-2A super extra long version of the Arnage was recently spotted by KGP photographers with an extra 18 inches of wheelbase, and while Bentley already offers the LWB Arnage RL model, this particular car eclipses that and then some to firmly land in limousine territory. In other words, it's not a car drive, it's a car in which you're driven. Whether this mule is based on the current model or actually hiding some hardware for the next-gen model isn't known, but either way it shows just how interested Bentley has become in attracting the chauffeur-driven crowd.
