Aston Martin DBS Volante at Geneva

Aston Martin's V12-powered rag-top DBS has received a premature online unveiling. To be officially introduced in Geneva, the new 2+2 seater DBS Volante features a fabric top that neatly tucks away behind a sculpted tonneau cover at the touch of a button in 14 seconds. Power is provided by Aston Martin's all alloy 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 510-horsepower and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque for a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h) and a 0-100 km/h (62mph) time of 4.3 secs.

Aston Martin DBS Volante-1Aston Martin DBS Volante-2In standard specification, Aston Martin DBS Volante comes with a rear-mounted six-speed manual gearbox, while for those that don't mind having a less engaging driving experience, the British firm also offers an automatic six-speed 'Touchtronic' option.

To keep the car's weight down (Aston announces a weight of 1,810kg or 3,990 lbs), Aston Martin DBS Volante is offered with carbon ceramic brakes as standard while the bonnet, front wings and boot lid are all made from carbon fibre.

The DBS Volante will be built at Aston Martin's global headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire with the first examples expected to be delivered during the third quarter of the year. Prices will be announced at the Geneva Auto Salon.

2009 Ferrari 599XX and 599 GTB Fiorano with HGTE Package

The 79th Geneva International Motor Show provides the venue for Ferrari to announce two new pieces of good news: the arrival of the sporty, dynamic Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) Package for the 599 GTB Fiorano and the world debut of the 599XX which is a technological laboratory aimed at a select group of clients. The latter new car incorporates the most advanced technologies resulting from Ferrari’s road-going and F1 research. Many of the technological solutions it carries are being used for the first time and have been developed exclusively for this special car.

In addition to the 599 GTB Fiorano equipped with the Handling GTE package and finished in a new three-layer metallic Rosso, and the 599XX in a colour matching the F2008, Ferrari clients and enthusiasts will also be able to admire this single-seater that recently won the Prancing Horse its 16th Constructors’ World title. On the stand there will also be the full range of Ferrari road cars: the Scuderia Spider 16M in a Grigio Titanio livery, the 430 Scuderia in Rosso Corsa and two Grand Tourer models, the Ferrari California in Nero Metallizzato with a Sabbia interior and the flagship 612 Scaglietti. The latter will be displayed in the Atelier, a dedicated area where owners can get a taste of the virtually endless personalisation options on offer to them.

Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Mercedes GL500

Exclusive automobile manufacturer Carlsson Autotechnik GmbH, and the luxury leather brand Etienne Aigner AG are proud to present the third model to emerge from their co-operative venture. The Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse, based on the Mercedes-Benz GL 500, makes its world premiere at the Geneva Auto Salon. The Rascasse will be an exclusive limited edition of 20 cars.

First and foremost, there's the paintwork, consisting of several coats of hand-rubbed wine-red metallic paint applied below the window line accented by black on the upper half of the model. Furthermore, there's a complete Carlsson body kit present, ranging from wider wheel arches, new side skirts and a new front and rear apron all the up to a new bonnet with integrated power domes. And the grille – let's not forget that big mesh, Chevy-looking grille.

So what else does 228,500 euros get you? More power, courtesy of Carlsson's engine conversion system for Mercedes' 5,461cc, 48-valve, DOHC V8. As a result, the Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse boasts a total output of 456 hp (335 kW) with 640Nm of torque, enough to propel the model from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds. This compares to 6.5 sec for the standard GL500.

To help transmit this extra power and torque to the road, Carlsson use their three-piece 3/11 UL forged alloy wheels with highly polished outer rims in 11J x 23-inch size with 305/30ZR23 tires. The forging process creates a very light but exceptionally strong alloy wheel that helps to counter the increased unsprung weight of the larger diameter wheels and tires. The Carlsson electronic lowering kit, C-Tronic Suspension, drops the ride height of the Airmatic suspension by 40mm. In combination with the wider wheels and tires, this delivers superior handling and roadholding characteristics.

Cavallino Classic event in Palm Beach, Florida

For a second year now, yours truly has had the opportunity to attend the Cavallino Classic, an annual event organized by the American magazine of the same name and dedicated to the Maranello brand. As usual, the festivities of this 18th edition were kicked off during the week with races at the Palm Beach International Raceway, formerly known as the Morosso Speedway. The track demonstrations of the numerous Ferrari clients made way for the Shell Historic Challenge, featuring the sacred beasts that left their mark in auto sports between the 1940s and 80s.

Behind the wheel sat New Zealand's Peter Giddings, a well known figure of the historical racing scene. Right behind him snorted another 250F. Yes, we were decidedly spoiled. Also pawing on the starting grid were a Ferrari 250 TR, a sublime Testa Rossa, a Maserati 300 S and two pre-war Alfa Romeos.

A mysterious Dino
The symphony in red continued back in the paddocks, interrupted by interludes in French blue and Belgian yellow. Old mixed with new, coupes with convertibles, single-seaters with two. And there, at the end of the paddock, as lonely as a child's discarded toy, awaited a strange and alluring vision in yellow. The emblem read Dino, nothing more. But what's a Dino?

We would get our answer the next day in downtown Palm Beach at (yet another) super car show. The mysterious beauty belonged to Jim Glickenhaus, movie director and stock exchange magnate. "Yes, it's a Dino," explained the owner, "a unique model created by Pininfarina based on the Dino 206S with racing chassis and engine. It was exhibited at the Frankfurt Auto Show and had remained with the Pininfarina family since. I bought it from the late Andrea Pininfarina. I raced this car in the Targa Florio historic rally last year. With 210 ponies and weighing only 630 kilos, it's a true delight on the streets of Sicily. It just arrived in the United States."

And as if that weren't enough, the seductive Dino was accompanied by another Pininfarina exclusive, the Ferrari P4/5 based on the roaring Enzo built specially for Glickenhaus in 2006 at the cost of 4 million dollars. "I have a soft sport for the P-Series Ferraris of the 1960s, and the car was built by Jason Castriota at Pininfarina and based on it."

A unique Vignale
Back down to Earth, and to the Cavallino Classic Concours d'Élégance held at the stylish Breakers Resort in West Palm Beach. The hotel grounds welcomed the most prized of Ferraris, a superb 250 GTO flanked by two 250 Testa Rossas, surrounded by a row of 400 Superamericas, short- and long-wheelbase 250 GTs and Tour de France and convertible versions as well as magnificent Lussos, not to mention a delectable blue 1954 250 Europa GT Tour de France.

Michellotti creation produced by Vignale and based on the 1951 Ferrari 212 Export is so elegant in its black attire, the compact 212 that from certain angles resembles the Austin Healy belongs to Thomas Stegman, president of Ohio's Osborne Coinage Co., the oldest mint in the United States.

Bentley Continental Supersports

Bentley Continental Supersports is the fastest and most powerful Bentley ever. It is the extreme Bentley, a muscular two-seater that delivers supercar performance and a highly focused driving experience. The Supersports is also the first Bentley capable of running on both petrol (gasoline) and biofuel, pioneering the use of FlexFuel technology in the luxury sector. The Continental Supersports began as an ‘under the radar’ project exploring the possibilities of weight reduction on the Continental GT but with more power and torque. A largely experimental process crystallised over a period of 24 months into an official new car programme, driven by the passion and enthusiasm of a small group of Bentley engineers and designers.

The results are dramatic. With 630PS (621 bhp) and new ‘Quickshift’ transmission that halves shift times, the Supersports sets new performance benchmarks for Bentley. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds) onto a top speed of 204 mph (329 km/h). Supercar performance is complemented by an array of chassis enhancements including retuned steering and suspension, utilising lighter weight components, retuned dampers and anti-roll bars.

Agility is further sharpened by the 40:60 rear-biased torque split for the all-wheel drive system, a wider rear track, bespoke lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels and a unique electronic stability programme. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard fitment, benefiting steering response, grip and ride comfort, while saving weight. Overall, the engineering team have achieved a weight reduction of 110 kg (243 lb) compared with the Continental GT Speed.

The Supersports is further distinguished from its Continental coupe stable mates by a unique dark-smoked steel finish to all exterior ‘brightware’, including front grilles, lamp bezels, window surrounds and wheels. A complex ‘Physical Vapour Deposition’ process is applied to all stainless steel components to give a lustrous and highly durable finish. A car industry first, this process is normally used as a coating on industrial tools, watches and even hip replacement joints.

Bentley Supersports is a strict two-seater featuring all-new lightweight sports seats with carbon fibre clamshell rear panels. In the rear compartment, the seats are replaced by a stowage deck with a carbon fibre luggage retaining beam.

Cadillac SRX comes to Geneva

GM seems to look at 2009 as the only way it can get back on the saddle. In many respects, this might very well be true. GM has been struggling for months now to keep its business afloat and one of the ways it thinks this can be achieved is by becoming visible to consumers.

Cadillac SRX After announcing earlier today that the Geneva Show will witness no less than four Corvette sports cars, GM will also widen its Cadillac range. Geneva will be the place were the new SRX will be premiered. The 3.0l V6 engine that powers the car uses he latest technology of direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, which allows it to achieve optimal fuel economy
and a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

Cadillac SRX benefits from an all-wheel-drive system that uses an electronically regulated limited-slip rear differential (eLSD) to transfer power front and rear, as well as divided left and right. The differential directs up to 100 percent of engine torque to the wheel with the most traction.

The all-new SRX rides on wide 1910 mm tracks, while both length and height dimensions are reduced compared to the current model. The SRX was design to meet European pedestrian protection standards and has a lowered front bumper.

New technologies offer better drivetrain efficiency and safety, while the design expresses power and dynamics. The new SRX connects with customers of premium cars emotionally as well as rationally. 2010 Audi A5 Convertible driving – video

It took them a while, but the folks over at Ingolstadt finally released official video footage of their all-new 2010 Audi A5 Convertible that will be making its premiere at the Geneva Auto Show. Whereas most of its rivals like the BMW 3-Sereis Convertible and the Lexus IS C have opted for a retractable hardtop, Audi's four-seater comes with a conventional fabric top. The A5 Convertible will be offered with various gasoline and diesel engines ranging from the entry-level 160HP 1.8-liter TFSI to the S5's 333HP 3.0 V6 TFSI.

Kia No3 concept comes to Geneva

Keeping up its reputation for showing concepts that lead to reality, Kia is playing the numbers game at the Salon de l’Automobile in Geneva next week with the debut of the all-new Kia No 3 concept.

The 4045 mm long concept is finished in matt Titanium Grey with contrasting gloss-white accents and will be unveiled at 12.15pm on Tuesday 3 March at the Kia stand in hall 4/5.

2011 Hyundai Tucson

Despite its Southwestern nameplate, our spy photographers have spotted the next-generation 2011 Hyundai Tucson while undergoing a battery of cold weather testing. Production for the Korean market is expected to start in the last quarter of 2009, with sales in the States starting in mid-2010 – likely making the all-new Tucson a 2011 model year offering in North America.

This is probably a smart move on Hyundai’s part seeing how sensitive Americans are to MPGs these days. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the next Tucson get close to 30 mpg highway, with an equally impressive 20+ in the city.

While insiders told up they had some pretty modern designs on the drawing boards, the Hyundai decision makers went for a traditional, yet new (and “safe”) look for the small crossover. Expect the 2011 Hyundai Tucson to take some styling cues from its bigger brother, the Hyundai Veracruz.

2009 Renault Clio Sport F1 Team R27 at MIMS

2009 Renault Clio Sport F1 Team R27 will be the star of the Renault stand at this years’ Melbourne International Motor Show. Following the benchmark of the Clio Renault Sport 197, the launch of the Clio Renault Sport F1 Team R27 promises to take the performance game to a whole new level.

2009 Renault Clio Sport F1 Team R27 -12009 Renault Clio Sport F1 Team R27 -2Built at the Renault Sport factory in Dieppe, the Limited Edition Clio Renault Sport R27 is inspired by the FIA World Championship winning-Renault F1 Team, and shares part of its name with the championship winning Grand Prix chassis, the R27. Continuing Renault’s rich heritage for producing grin-inducing hot hatches, the Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 features ‘Cup Chassis’ suspension settings, plus signature 17” charcoal coloured alloy wheels, red brake calipers, Recaro front seats and exclusive Renault F1 Team decals. Only 40 R27’s will be imported into Australia.

The ‘Cup Chassis’ suspension settings on the R27 include a number of enhancements for both track and road driving. The ride height has been lowered by 7mm compared to the standard Clio Renault Sport 197 to ensure a lower centre of gravity and reduced load transfer for more effective cornering. Its cornering ability has been improved even further by the springs which have been stiffened by 27 percent at the front and 30 percent at the rear, giving reduced body roll and pitch when cornering. With a 10 percent increase in bending stiffness and more flexible bump-stops, the double-axis strut suspension system is also more stable when braking and offers greater steering precision when negotiating bends in quick succession.

The R27 is equipped with the standard Clio Renault Sport 197’s robust, powerful Brembo brake system, using 312mm ventilated discs at the front and 300mm solid discs at the rear. Powered by a normally-aspirated 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve engine and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the R27 offers a wide power band with maximum power of 145kW available at 7,250rpm, with 215Nm of torque at 5,550 rpm.

The Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 has standard decals on the front, rear, roof and door to celebrate Renault F1 Team’s Championship victories in 2005 and 2006. In keeping with its motorsport lineage, the R27 also features red Brembo four-piston brake calipers at the front, Victory Yellow paint (which originally appeared on the Megane F1 Team 225 R26) and exclusive Renault F1 Team badging. Recaro front seats are also standard.

The Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 offers the same comprehensive standard equipment list as the Clio Renault Sport 197, but in addition to climate-control air conditioning, cruise control (with speed-limiter) and ESP, the Limited Edition adds Cup Chassis signature 17” charcoal coloured alloy wheels, red painted brake calipers, Renault Sport Recaro Seats, a numbered plaque and F1 Team decals.

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept spied

Carscoop has snapped the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept in video filming on the streets of Valencia, leading us to wonder if it isn’t time to drop the word “concept” from its name. The little Alfa Romeo might be small, but it should have plenty of performance and a provocative look to make up for its size.

Mercedes GL Facelift Spied

Mercedes-Benz's mammoth SUV is being facelifted for its mid-lifecycle. The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class was launched in 2006. It seems Mercedes-Benz is offering two different trim levels of the GL in the same way as the new 2010 E-Class. These spied prototypes show the black car with an LED light strip on the front bumper and a newly designed stainless steel underbody guard. That one would be the Elegance. The silver vehicle should be the Avantgarde model with its twin round headlights taken from the 2010 E-Class Avantgarde version.

Regarding engines it's expected most will remain unchanged but a few new ones will be introduced. Porsche Museum – Video

The Porsche Museum opened its doors on January 31 and should prove to be quite an attraction for fans of the brand, as well as a new tourist destination. But for those who can’t make it to Germany, here is a video of the Porsche musuem and its 80 cars that are on show.

The first part of the video is dedicated to the various Porsche competition models, including the 917, winner in various editions of the Le Mans 24 hours. Other images show the Typ 64 from 1939, also known as the “Ur-Porsche”, and other models from engineer Ferdinand Porsche, including the legendary Volkswagen Maggiolino. The second part of the video shows the Number 1 from 1948 and the car that has made Porsche famous, the 911 (with models dating back to 1963). You can also get a close-up look of the trophies that have been won, and the six cylinder boxer engine. Thanks to Ardospeed for the tip.

Toyota HC-CV (Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle)

Toyota Australia has released information on a new concept car in advance of its 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show debut. The Toyota HC-CV, is a sign of the near future when Toyota's down under facilities will begin production of a new Camry hybrid car. Toyota announced that the production version of the concept will likely have a four-cylinder petrol engine paired up with a large electric motor, making it a full-hybrid vehicle. Design-wise, the production model will also share many details with the new HC-CV.

Toyota logos have a blue background, and the rear LED lamps also have a blue tone. Some of the lights' lenses have a waterfall graphic on them as well.

This concept car will be Toyota's major presentation at the Melbourne International Motor Show this year. President Yasuda said, "The startling paintwork, dramatic lines and sporty appearance of this concept car convey the excitement and passion in our company to produce Australia's first hybrid car."

You can see the Toyota HC-CV in Melbourne beginning later this week. The production model Toyota Camry Hybrid is due out within a year's time.

Škoda Fabia Scout

Škoda has unveiled the first official photographs of the Fabia Scout. The new addition to the Scout family will make its world debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The design of the brand new Scout includes distinct features and attractive protective elements, giving this functional and economical car, new emotional dimensions. A uniquely-shaped bumper and plastic cladding give this new version of Škoda's popular estate enhanced, robust features. In addition, protective elements on the sides of the body and a silver roof-rails underline Škoda Fabia Scout's bold shape.

Škoda Fabia ScoutFour engines will be available for the new Fabia Scout – two petrol and two diesel units. The petrol engines will consist of a 1.4 litre, 63 kW (85bhp) engine with fuel consumption of 6.5L/100km (43.5mpg) and 1.6 litre, 77 kW (105bhp) with a fuel consumption of 6.9L/100km (40.9mpg), available with a six-speed transmission. The two diesel engines are a 1.4 litre, 59 kW (80bhp) engine with fuel consumption of 4.6L/100km (61.4mpg) and the top-of-the-range 1.9-litre engine offering 77 kW (105bhp) and fuel consumption of 4.9L/100km (57.7mpg).

Scout-specific upholstery brings the Scout styling to the interior along with floor mats bearing the Scout logo. The Scout logo also appears on the vehicle's tailgate. Other Scout features include the pedals with stainless steel surfaces and anti-slip, heavy-duty rubber elements.

Škoda Fabia Scout is fitted with lightweight ‘Arktos’ alloy wheels designed especially for this model. It is fitted with sixteen-inch alloy wheels as standard and customers can choose seventeen-inch wheels of the same design as an option. Other distinctive features of the Fabia Scout include fog lamps (with corner design) and tinted windows.

Extending the very popular Scout portfolio, the vehicle will be available from late May this year.

BRABUS Mercedes G V12 S Biturbo

The German tuning specialists have announced they will premiere the BRABUS Mercedes G V12 S Biturbo at this year's Geneva auto show. The BRABUS Mercedes G V12 S Biturbo is powered by a 6.3 liters engine with a special crankshaft with longer stroke, larger cylinders and larger bore.

The top speed of the BRABUS Mercedes G V12 S Biturbo, if not limited, is 260 km/h (163 mph) and the 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 4.3 seconds.

The BRABUS Mercedes G V12 S Biturbo price starts at 379,000 Euros.

We think they did a good job, which is to be expected, since BBV helped put together the design schemes for the actual C6.R racers. In full race livery, the Stingray looks like it'd be equally adept at chasing down Gulf-liveried Aston Martins or battling giant evil robots. After all, Jake plays no favorites; he's an equal-opportunity intimidator.

2009 Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S Edition-12009 Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S Edition-2Luton – Few will claim that Vauxhall’s storming VXR8 super-saloon is lacking in the power stakes, but just in case there were any doubters, the Bathurst S Edition will put them straight.

Thanks to the addition of a Walkinshaw Performance 122 Supercharger, the Bathurst S dispenses 560 V8 horsepower, compared with the standard car’s 431 horsepower, and produces searing acceleration throughout the rev-range and a spine-tingling, banshee wail when you hit the loud pedal.

The Bathurst S Edition joins the normally aspirated Bathurst Edition at the top of the Vauxhall family tree, with both cars receiving a raft of technical and cosmetic upgrades over the standard VXR8. Only a limited number of Bathurst Editions will be sold through selected Vauxhall retailers. To exploit the Bathurst’s greater power potential, six-pot front and four-pot rear callipers are now standard on both models, along with stiffer, height-adjustable springs and Walkinshaw-developed coil-over dampers. The bespoke damper units have 15 separate valve settings with independent corner adjustment for the owner’s preferred setup.

Dynamically, both Bathursts retain the VXR8’s much praised ride quality, but body control is enhanced and the handling made more exploitable for the enthusiastic driver. At the heart of the Bathurst S is Walkinshaw’s 122 Supercharger, which not only boosts power by 30 per cent, but escalates torque from an eye-catching 550Nm to an eye-watering 715Nm. Such is the strength of the LS3 V8 engine that extracting bigger figures would have been possible, but retaining the VXR8’s driveability and durability was Walkinshaw’s priority.

Both Bathurst models retain the VXR8’s standard colour palette, and can also be specified with optional 20” alloy rims at Ј1500. List price for the Bathurst Edition is Ј37,995 – just Ј2757 above the standard VXR8 – while the Bathurst S costs Ј44,995.

Giugiaro Quaranta Concept

Giorgetto Giugiaro has a series of successful concepts under his belt, including the Ferrari GG50 and his own interpretation of the Mustang. But his most recent design exercise -- the Italdesign Quaranta, shown at last year's Geneva Motor Show -- was a clear indication that he was moving beyond bespoke bodywork and taking a long look into the future of the automobile.

Giugiaro Quaranta Concept-1Giugiaro Quaranta Concept-2At this year's Geneva expo, he'll take the wraps off another hybrid concept that appears to evolve the Quaranta design and the (theoretical) drivetrain underneath. Judging by the teaser, it's decidedly more sleek than its predecessor, dropping the blocky '80s aesthetic of the Quaranta and packing a powertrain that will supposedly propel the gas-electric coupe to 186 mph. If the same 270 hp, 3.3-liter V6 hybrid employed on the Giugiaro Quaranta migrates to this new concept, expect an all-wheel-drive system with a duo of electric motors powering the front wheels and a claimed 0-60 time of around four seconds.

Although there's some confusion about the name (there are rumors of the "Frasier Nash" nameplate being revived), we'll be able to get all the details from the show floor in Geneva next month.

Rolls-Royce 200EX

Following today's embargo debacle, Rolls-Royce has finally released the official details and images of its baby Roller, the 200EX. The name draws its inspiration from the "experimental" prototypes that Rolls created during the pre-war era, but this version is more modern and has its sights set on the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

Rolls-Royce 200EXWhile Rolls-Royce has deemed the Geneva-bound 200EX a concept, expect almost every exterior and interior detail to carry over to the production model when it arrives in 2010. However, the alphanumeric moniker will be replaced with something more traditional (think some variation of the words Spirit, Shadow or Cloud).

The styling is quintessential Rolls, pulling all the best cues from the Phantom and Drophead Coupe and fitting them into a decidedly smaller package. Based off the latest BMW 7 series platform, the 200EX spans 212.6 inches long, 83 inches wide and 61 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 129.7 inches. A new air suspension system hides behind the seven-spoke, 20-inch wheels, with the front hoops wrapped in 255/45 tires and the rears coated in 285/40 rubber. Rolls remains mum on engine details, only saying that the 200EX is powered by a new V12.

Inside you'll find all the top-rate, high-dollar trinkets that makes Rolls-Royce the standard of the luxury motoring world, including frosted lamps, chrome door handles, violin key switchgear and an ergonomic roller-ball controller to manipulate the car's systems.

While we're anxiously awaiting the official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next month, expect the production variant of the 200EX to bow at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.

2010 Toyota Matrix

2010 Toyota Matrix will be available in three grades - Standard, S and the XRS. And Matrix will offer the option of all-wheel drive (AWD) with the S grade. The 2009 Matrix offers the choice of two different engines, a five-speed manual transmission, and either four- or five-speed automatic transmissions.

2010 Toyota MatrixA 16-valve, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine will produce 132 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 128 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. The engine will feature Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) on both the intake and exhaust camshafts that helps it achieve outstanding performance and economy. Estimated EPA fuel economy ratings are 26/32 city/highway mpg for manual transmission models and 25/31 for the automatic transmission model powered by a 1.8-liter engine.

For those who want a bit more horsepower and torque, Toyota Matrix offers a 16-valve DOHC 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with VVT-i that will produce 158 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. Matrix models powered by the 2.4-liter engine with five-speed automatic transmission will have an estimated EPA fuel economy of 21/29 city/highway mpg.

Toyota Matrix's base wheel is a 16-inch steel unit with a six-spoke full wheel cover. A distinctive 17-inch five-spoke aluminum wheel will be available for the S grade, and an 18-inch aluminum alloy wheel with a twin five-spoke design will come standard on the XRS grade.

In addition to the standard equipment, a list of optional comfort and utility features are available. Options will include an AM/FM/CD with six-speaker system with DVD navigation with XM NavTraffic capability, alloy wheels, power heated outside rearview mirror, intermittent rear window wiper, cruise control, power door locks, power windows, and remote keyless entry.

Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid

The German carmaker has released today more details on the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid. The company promises the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid will deliver 4-cylinder engine efficiency with V8 performance and a 20 per cent reduction of CO2 emissions. The Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid will debut in 2010, but there's no word on the price yet.

Being a Hybrid, the new model is also equipped with a 52-horsepower three-phase synchronous electric motor that adds 221 lb-ft of torque. The manufacturer said it managed to get the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid up to 86 mph using just the electric motor.

Along with the announcement of the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid, the company also confirmed that a similar hybrid system will make its way into the new Panamera.

Mazda Miata’s 20th Anniversary

As Mazda Motor Corp. celebrates the 20th anniversary of the venerable MX-5 Miata sports car, the bottom has fallen out in the 2-seat roadster segment due to the ailing economy.

Mazda MiataIn 2008, the Middle Specialty car segment in which the Miata resides was off 27.2% vs. like-2007 to 191,213 units, while Mazda as a whole saw sales decline 10.9% to 263,949, Ward’s data shows. Miata sales for full-year 2008 were down 27.2% to 10,977 units, mirroring the segment decline.

A car such as the Miata is particularly vulnerable to economic downturns, as roadsters largely are bought as recreational vehicles and seldom used as daily drivers, Mazda North American Operations CEO and President Jim O’Sullivan says.

To commemorate the Miata’s 20th anniversary, Mazda held a small celebration at the show, where the sports car made its debut in 1989. Since then, Mazda has sold 857,201 Miatas globally, earning it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-volume 2-seat sports car in history.

‘10 Mazda Miata gets revised front, rear fascias. For the ‘10 model year, the Miata has undegone a significant refreshening, receiving new front and rear fascias, a redesigned interior and a modest 3-4 hp bump in power output. The ‘10 model currently is hitting dealerships.

The Miata is now in its third generation, having been fully redesigned in 1998 and 2005.

Although sports-car sales are down, the Miata remains the No.1 seller in its segment and will benefit from the recent departure of the Honda S2000.

2009 Nissan Pathfinder LE

2009 Nissan Pathfinder LE is nowhere near as smooth as the 3.5-liter in other Nissan products; it’s really loud and buzzy. It sort of matched the overall ride, which is pretty harsh, crashing over all the frost heaves in the road. And the door seals are terrible, with strong winds making sucking sounds on the windows.

2009 Nissan Pathfinder LEPowertrain refinement is this vehicle's biggest downfall. Nissan just cannot seem to engineer its V-6 so it's not noisy and coarse. There's sufficient power and torque here, but this vehicle weighs nearly 5000 pounds, and I was driving it with just my 180-lb self and my 8-lb briefcase on board.

The most delightful thing about our Pathfinder was that it was equipped with a heated steering wheel! This was nice to find on a cold winter's night. I stumbled across the switch for it when I was searching for a way to turn up the instrument panel lighting, which someone had set to the dimmest setting. I had to consult the owners manual to figure that one out.

Nissan Pathfinder is a nice mid-size SUV with a real, live four-wheel-drive system with automatic mode and low range, and its third-row seat increases capacity to the all-important seven. If you're in the market for a vehicle in this class, the Pathfinder is certainly worth considering alongside the Toyota 4Runner, the Ford Explorer, and the Jeep Commander.

For Rinspeed boss Rinderknecht the vehicle is more than just a clever concept car. “The „iChange“ is a symbol for the fundamental changes the auto industry undergoes worldwide. And it is clear that only those companies will survive that have innovative answers for the demands of a new automotive era.” The visionary Rinderknecht is convinced that the days of gasguzzling behemoths are coming to an end: “The „iChange“ is a signal for the coming global changes to individual mobility. We need to be ready to meet these challenges with new ideas.”

The basic idea behind the ‘iChange:’: The energy demand of a vehicle depends mostly on its weight, the type of engine it uses, and its aerodynamic properties. The engineering-services company Esoro that traditionally builds Rinspeed concept cars has built an extremely lightweight car weighing in at only 1’050 kilograms. To power the car, the Swiss specialists chose an electric motor. The idea of the pop-up rear end was conceived to account for the sizeable effect aerodynamics play in fuel consumption.

While other cars always have to ferry around their puffed-up exteriors that can accommodate up to seven passengers even if they’re just transporting a single soul, the „iChange“ features an adaptive body. The sole driver is conveyed in a teardrop-shaped car that offers optimal aerodynamic properties and thus minimized energy consumption. If more than one person need to be transported the expanding rear provides room for two passengers. As a result of the increased weight and no longer optimal aerodynamics the energy consumption increases - but only for the time passengers are actually on board.

The energy for the electric motor comes from lithium-ion batteries that are available in two different stack configurations for short- and long-distance driving. The electric motor of the 2009 Rinspeed iChange produces 150kW, capable of propelling the car to a top speed of 220 km/h. The sprint from rest to 100 km/h takes just slightly over four seconds. This impressive performance is made possible with the help of a six-speed pre-selector gearbox from the Subaru WRX car. The central research department of Siemens AG (Corporate Technology, CT) supplied the integration technology for engine/generator, electronics and battery connection interface. Siemens has long been one of the world leaders for energy systems and eco technology with pioneering concepts for electric drive systems.

Its products cover the entire electric value-added chain from generation to distribution to consumption. The gearbox and drivetrain are lubricated with eco-friendly lubricants from Motorex. Custom-made lightweight 17” and 18” forged wheels with aerodynamic shrouds are supplied by light-alloy wheel specialists AEZ. Pirelli P Zero tires in size 215/40-17 in front and size 245/40-18 in back provide optimal grip.

The E-Class also takes on a pioneering role in the drive sector. The new diesels and direct-injection petrol engines combine efficiency with an effortless power delivery. The engine line-up includes two new four-cylinder models which deliver significantly more power and torque while consuming up to 17 percent less fuel. The best example is the E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Coupe, which consumes 5.3 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres and emits 139 grams of CO2 per kilometre, making it one of the most economical vehicles in its class.

The exemplary, low fuel consumption has not only been achieved because of the new engines, but also with a number of practical measures. These include on-demand activation of the steering and fuel pumps, the use of tyres with low rolling resistance and an alternator control system which takes account of the current driving situation and the vehicle's electrical power requirements, plus the very decisive factor of outstanding aerodynamics.

Unfortunately, these leaked images and minor details are all we have, so expect all the info to follow in the first week of March.

2010 Ford Mustang GT pricing

Need further proof that the pony car wars are once again raging through the Detroit 3 automakers? Look no further than Ford's official press release pasted after the break. Ford is quick to point out that its 2010 Ford Mustang holds a distinct pricing advantage over its rivals, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and the recently-revived Dodge Challenger. On the low end, a base V6-powered Ford Mustang will run you $20,995, a figure that undercuts the Camaro LS at $22,995 and the Challenger SE at $22,545. For a little more comparison, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe will start around $22K and the R-Spec will be available mid-2010 with a base price of $23,750.

Again, the 'Stang costs less than the Camaro SS at $30,995 and the Challenger R/T at $30,545. For those looking to let just a little sun in, there's a glass roof option for both the V6 and GT models that will carry a $1,995 surcharge.

The 2010 Hyundai Equus is now officially revealed to the Korean and the web motorists and like the Genesis Hyundai does not put its badge on the car, it comes with its own branding. Despite the fuzz, the Equus is no match for big European players but it should come with a price that can cause trouble to all of them.

This flagship Korean executive saloon offers a roomy interior which is either four or five seater, in the four seater version there is a big middle console where the buttons for the four zone air conditioning system and other gadgets are located. The dashboard is a fine design overall, but European cars have grown up from this woodish layout many years ago. Using this amount of wood makes the interior feel like an old car.

The Hyundai Equus can be considered as an alternative for the expensive European brands for those who cannot afford them, although it is still some years away.

The model family currently has three body variants (short-wheelbase Station Wagon, long-wheelbase Station Wagon, Convertible), which can be combined with either an economical V6 CDIengine developing 165 kW/224 hp and 540 newton metres, or a powerful 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine with 285 kW/388 hp and 530 newton metres. The flagship G 55 AMG available only as a four-door, long-wheelbase Station Wagon is powered by a supercharged V8-engine developing 373 kW/507 hp.

A Bluetooth hands-free system for the mobile phone is integrated as standard. On request there is also a new Media Interface, which connects an external music source with the onboard electronics and control system of the off-roader.

All G 500 versions have the infotainment system COMAND APS with an integrated 6-disc DVD-changer. The unit also includes HDDnavigation with track recording when leaving digitised areas, telephone operation and a special off-road menu. COMAND APS also features the new LINGUATRONIC with extended functions. This voice control system recognises strings of verbal commands, which can be given by any user without prior voice training. Further optional extras: a perfect sound experience is ensured by the Harman Kardon® Logic7® surround- sound system with 12 high-performance loudspeakers and an output of 450 Watts. Seating comfort is enhanced by the optional climatised seats for the driver and front passenger.

The top model in the G-Class - the G 55 AMG- is equipped with a supercharged 5.5-litre V8-engine developing 373 kW/507 hp and a maximum torque of 700 newton metres. These figures ensure a decidedly superior performance: the G 55 AMG accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, and has an (electronically limited) top speed of 210 km/h.

The AMG version also sets the pace where handling safety and comfort are concerned. The Electronic Stability Program ESP® has a modified, highly efficient control unit. Its integrated lateral acceleration control allows the more precise recognition of extremely dynamic driving manoeuvres to optimise the stability of the vehicle. The G 55 AMG is also equipped with Hill Start Assist. If its sensors detect that the vehicle is stopping on a gradient, the brake pressure is briefly maintained so that the G-Class cannot roll backwards. The driver has enough time to switch from the brake pedal to the accelerator. The advantage is that in most situations, this makes it unnecessary to engage the parking brake.

The G 55 AMG is distinguished by its design refinements. The most obvious feature at the front end is the radiator grille with its three prominent horizontal louvres painted in the vehicle colour with exclusive chrome inserts. When viewed from the side, the eye is drawn to the new, high-gloss titanium grey 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in a five-spoke design. With a width of 9.5 inches and size 275/55 R 19 tyres, they fill out the wheel arches to impressive effect. The standard AMG bodystyling continues to include bumpers painted in the vehicle colour and flared AMG wings. Beneath the stainless steel running board on each side, the two oval, chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system are an unmistakable indicator of the power potential residing in the supercharged AMG 5.5-litre V8.

Hyundai HED-6 ix-ONIC Concept

Hyundai is showing off their latest concept car to a select group of journalists today. Called the Hyundai ix-onic, it will be the second generation of the Tucson. The new concept features a new, production-ready engine as well. Hyundai will start building an incredibly clean 173 horsepower 1.6-liter engine later this year. Producing only 149 grams of CO2 per kilometer, the new engine will make its way into the market version of the ix-onic. This engine could also be built into other Hyundai models, like the i30.

Some countries also got access to a very efficient, 140 hp 2.0-liter diesel. Hyundai did not say if these engines would still be available.

Once it hits production, the new crossover will be called the Hyundai iX35. The company says it will look very similar to the latest concept car, with the exception of a few details. Lights, bumpers, and materials will likely be changed, but the lines and shape will remain the same. The five-seater concept measures 4.4 meters long by 1.85 m wide by 1.65 m high. A seven-seat iX35 is not expected to go on sale.

Styling cues are similar to that of the i10 and i30. Completely brand new, the ix-onic and iX35 were designed by Hyundai's European operation. Despite declining demand for SUVs and crossovers in Europe, Hyundai believes this vehicle will be sought after.

The new iX35 will be built in a Slovakian Kia factory, according to the company. One company rep told a Dutch newspaper, "In light of the technical connection with the Kia Sportage, which is already coming off the assembly line in Slovakia, it is logical that the two models will be assembled side by side."

Volkswagen CC Gold Coast concept at 2009 Chicago Auto Show

RennTech G-Wagen Concept

To celebrate the Gelandewagen’s 30th anniversary the tuner RennTECH has come up with this design to turn the G Wagen to a hardcore offroader, a kind of Bowler Wildcat. It’s weird though because the G-Class is a high riding classic driven by gangstas and sheiks and all other kind of celebs, and to make a toy out of it, is ruining its reputation as one of the coolest cars in the world. Worse than that RennTECH is considering a V6 turbodiesel for this car!

As you could guess form the sketches published earlier, this car goes into the same category as Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-series and Lexus LS, and Hyundai is not shy of admitting that Equus is a mixed copy of them all!

2009 Fiat 500C official images

These are the first official images of 2009 Fiat 500C convertible have been leaked onto the web.

As expected, the Fiat 500C is not your typical convertible, instead using a sliding canvas roof which is opened electronically and stored in plain sight.

The cloth roof is reportedly available in three distinct colours - ivory, red and black - and includes an integrated spoiler which also houses a third brake light.

The current engine range will be incorporated into the new 500C line-up along with the 1.3-litre Multijet equipped with Stop-Start technology.

The new Fiat 500C Convertible will make its first public debut at the Geneva motor show with European sales expected to start later this year.

Based on the trim you choose there are two engine options, a 156hp 2.0 liter and a 173 2.4 liter. LX and EX uses a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto box while SX can be had with 6-speed Sportmatic. 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid

There are subtle and obvious differences between the 2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid and its fraternal twin, the standard-model Tahoe.

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe HybridCars.com says the Hybrid has a "stylish appearance" and refers to the "large 'Hybrid' graphics on the side doors and smaller ones on the windshield and rear window” as "notable." According to ForbesAutos, the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is "still boxy and burly"—unsurprising, considering that the standard Tahoe is what Edmunds deems "a traditional full-size SUV built on a truck platform."

All 2009 Chevy Hybrid Tahoes receive unique lightweight alloy wheels (with hollow spokes to reduce weight) shod with low-resistance tires. Kelley Blue Book notes that the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid also comes with a longer roof spoiler and sharp-edged, body-colored D-pillars, but it is not available with a roof rack. Other than a more streamlined appearance, the changes do not drastically alter the look from that of the standard Tahoe. Some differences are related to body changes designed to reduce drag and improve efficiency. Car and Driver notes its "attractive exterior" includes "reworked front and rear fascias, running boards, and D-pillar moldings [that] help reduce the drag coefficient from 0.36 to 0.34."

The 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid offers better acceleration, braking performance, and fuel efficiency than the standard Tahoe.

For the 2009 model year, a 332-horsepower 6.0-liter small-block V-8 engine and powerful twin electric motors power the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. Car and Driver finds the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid "charged to 60 mph in just over eight seconds." In other reviews read by TheCarConnection.com, passing performance is an aspect of the hybrid Tahoe that receives praise. Edmunds contends "the hybrid has improved throttle response in passing situations" compared to the standard Tahoe.

While the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid doesn’t handle as well as the standard Chevy Tahoe, it beats the nonhybrid Tahoe in both acceleration and fuel efficiency.

Ford Fiesta is top selling car in UK

The Ford Fiesta was Britain's most popular car in January, the third successive month it has topped the UK's sales charts. Despite the depressed UK market being over 30 per cent down on a year ago, Fiesta sales were up by 28.3 per cent last month. January brought more good news for Fiesta when the newcomer was declared What Car? Car of the Year 2009.

Ford FiestaAccording to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders' latest figures, Ford Ka, Fiesta, Focus and Galaxy were all sales leaders in their segments. The new Ford Kuga crossover, capable of over 44mpg while emitting only 169g CO2/km, has been Britain's favourite compact 4x4 for four consecutive months.

The ever-strengthening appeal of Ford's new car range was reflected in an 18.7 per cent share of January's car market – up 2.4 points on 12 months ago.

The total market of cars and commercial vehicles combined shrunk by around 33 per cent to 127,398 units. While Ford accounted for almost one in five sales, its registrations were down by 27 per cent to 24,276 vehicles last month.

Nigel Sharp, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "Our aim of prioritising retail growth is paying off, buoyed by the new Ford small car range. New Ford Ka arrived last month, joining Fiesta to offer the combination of style, value and economy which private buyers are looking for more than ever."

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe pricing

We've known rough performance numbers on the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe for some time now: 0-60 in under six seconds, up to 30 mpg with the 2.0T, and so on. But one set of key numbers has eluded us until now: price. Hyundai's rear-drive performance hopeful will weigh in at $22,000 for the base 210-hp 2.0L turbo model, and the 306-hp 3.8L V6 will start at $25,000.

Standard creature comforts include keyless entry, cruise control, air conditioning, leather wrapped wheel and shifter, a six-speaker AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 player with USB port and steering wheel audio controls, and Bluetooth.

Tuner types and gearheads will probably be most interested in the newly announced mid-priced 2.0T R-Spec model ($23,750). Hyundai has chosen not to make the R-Spec a stripped-out lightweight performance model. As such, the model still includes things like the aforementioned six-speaker stereo, air-conditioning and remote keyless entry, but the 137-mph coupe also gets Hyundai's full compliment of performance hardware, including uprated Brembo brakes, stiffened suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, and 19-inch gunmetal alloys wrapped with summer tires.

Saab has officially unveiled 2009 Saab 9-3X - the new sports wagon ahead of its official debut at the Geneva motor show. Positioned as an ideal alternative to large and heavy crossovers or SUVs, the new 9-3X range incorporates two efficient engines into its range.

Coupled with Saab’s advanced Cross Wheel Drive system (XWD) the 2.0T reaches 100km/h in just over 8.2 seconds (0-60mph quoted) from a standstill with the manual, whilst returning fuel economy of 6.9-litres per 100kms.

The XWD system is capable of continuously distributing engine drive torque between the front and rear axles as required for optimum stability and traction in all conditions by employing an electronically-controlled Torque Transfer Device (TTD). The standard fit rear limited slip differential (eLSD) operates on the same principle, splitting drive across the axle to whichever wheel has more traction. The diesel option is a 1.9-litre twin turbo engine which produces 134kW and 400Nm with power sent to the front wheels via either a six speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The sprint from zero to 100km/h is roughly the same as the petrol model at just over 8.3 seconds (0-60mph quoted) while fuel economy stands at 4.6-litres per 100km.

2011 Honda CRZ 21st-Century CRX

Honda's CRZ hybrid coupe remains on track as a 2011 model, on sale in late 2010. Honda wants sports-car enthusiasts to buy it not because it's green, but because it's fun. The carmaker considered doing a non-hybrid version of the CRZ, but it desperately wants to be seen as a hybrid supplier on par with Toyota and believes it needs a range of dedicated hybrid-only models to achieve that.

2011 Honda CRZ 21st-Century CRX2011 Honda CRZ gets a lively 140-horse, 1.8-liter Civic-derived engine. The IMA system -- motor, battery, electronics -- will be like the Insight's, as will the platform, to save cost. A senior engineer says, "It must be fun to drive, must remind you of the original CRX." And a manual gearbox will be offered. "CVT is fine for the market, mostly. But we are Honda! We must have a manual!"

As a two-seater, the CRZ's smaller body mass versus the Insight should make up for the weight of the bigger engine, brakes, and tires. So a 2800-pound total, with lots of electric-assist torque and a revvy gasoline engine, should make it the real deal as a pocket performance coupe.

Honda has trimmed back its sports cars. President Takeo Fukui said the company has canceled the Acura NSX replacement, though engineers say it may simply be deferred. And the rear-drive Acura range has been canceled. Honda is out of Formula 1. So the CRZ must be to Honda in the 2010s what the CRX was to Honda in the 1980s.

The other leg of Honda's small-car hybrid tripod, the Fit hybrid, also is going ahead for a '10 release. To give the Insight a lower overall height than the Fit, for reduced aero drag at highway speeds, the fuel tank was moved from under the front seats in the Fit to under the rear seats in the Insight. Speeds in the EPA test aren't high enough to make aerodynamics a factor, so the Fit hybrid may match the Insight's fuel economy label, and offer more space and versatility, for less money. It will interesting to see how the marketing guys handle that one.

Audi R8 V10

Audi hasn't transformed the R8 by adding a pair of cylinders. Not like Porsche transforms the 911 by adding a pair of turbos anyway. No, the Audi R8 V10 is basically an R8 V8 that's faster, a little grippier, and better equipped.

Audi R8 V10Which means it's the perfect everyday-use supercar. A Gallardo (with which the Audi shares an engine) is too noisy to be more than a special-occasions car. And if ‘everyday' includes the British winter, well you won't want to be getting by on 2WD.

The 525bhp engine has an astonishing spread of power, pulling hard from low in the rev range and getting pregressively and implausibly stronger all the way to an 8,700rpm red-line.

And the magical, predictable, transparent handling of the V8 car isn't messed up by the extra power. This is a car that always seems to be on your side.

The launch price looks high, but at least it doesn't need any extras. The R Tronic and the carbon-ceramic brakes are both a waste of money unless you want to do track days. And actually this isn't a track-day car. Audi R8 V10 price: £75,900 - £81,100.

KW, the suspension specialist, will premiere at the Geneva Motor Show this year the KW Nissan GT-R equipped with the latest coilover kit. The KW Nissan GT-R also features gull-wing doors and a Hydraulic system HLS that lifts the car by 45 millimeters. The system even works while driving up to 80 km/h. Nissan GT-R drivers can upgrade the hydraulic system together with a coilover kit or the Variant 3.

MINI John Cooper JCW cabrio

As far as cute cars go, it doesn't get much more adorable than the MINI. Especially in convertible form. But as the Anglo-Saxon carmaker has shown with the top-spec John Cooper Works versions of the hatchback and Clubman, cute can turn mean with the addition of some go-fast bits and next month at the Geneva Motor Show MINI will do just that -- again -- when it takes the wraps off the new JCW cabrio.

Renault Laguna Black Edition

Renault has announced the availability of a new Laguna Black Edition. The car features a GT Look Pack which consists of a front bumper, black headlamp masks and tinted rear lights. The Comfort Pack includes a park distance control system via a proximity sensor and a Renault hands-free card. The car comes in a choice of metallic paints called Pearlescent Black, Ardoise Grey, Eclipse Grey or Platine Grey. Additionally 16-inch alloy wheels are fitted.

The dCi 110 has a theoretical range of 1,300km from a full tank and an average consumption figure of 4.9 litres/100km. The dCi 130 can give 6 litres per 100km in fuel economy.

Equipment levels for the Renault Laguna Black Edition are quite high. They include ABS, ESP, Bluetooth connectivity for the phone, headlamp washers, bi-xenon headlights and a '3D Sound by Arkamys' radio/CD/MP3 audio system. All this equipment is worth over €2,000 but with this package it's only €200 more than the listed price of the Laguna Expression and Carminat versions from which the Black Edition is based. Prices in France commence at €25,800 for the dCi 110 sedan and €27,000 for the Estate.

2010 Lexus RX 350 pricing

Lexus just rolled out pricing for the 2010 Lexus RX 350. MSRP (including the $825 destination charge) for the front-wheel drive model will be $37,625 and the all-wheel drive model will start at $39,025.

2010 Lexus RX 350The 2010 Lexus RX350 and RX450h hybrid were first introduced at the 2008 L.A. auto show. Changes between the former RX350 and the new model that launches this month include an interior and exterior refresh as well as a 5 hp increase to the 3.5-liter V-6 for total of 275 horsepower.

New features for 2010 include voice-activated hard-disk navigation system, an organic LED multi-information system, and an optional, LED head-up display. Other new available options include a Mark Levinson surround-sound system, radar-based adaptive cruise control and a sports package if you want a thrill.

Pricing is yet to be announced for the Lexus RX450h hybrid, but we're expecting a figure around $45,000.

Hyundai HED-6 Concept will appear at Geneva motorshow

The first teaser rendering of the Hyundai HED-6 SUV concept, set to be unveiled in Geneva motorshow on March 3rd, indicates the concept will hint at a next-generation Mazda-like styling for Hyundai SUVs. Cue the flowing lines and prose.

Hyundai HED-6 ConceptHED-6 combines muscular design and everyday utility to fit comfortably in an urban or out-of-town environment. The dramatic exterior design is enhanced by the hexagonal grille, angular style lines and piercing back-swept front headlamps, with the bold look completed by 21-inch, mirror-polished alloy wheels. The three-dimensional, sculpted shape of the rear window is achieved using "Lexan" high-performance plastics instead of regular glass. To emphasize the dynamic flowing lines, the designers have developed a special ‘Ice Blue' exterior paint, with an advanced pigment effect for a brilliant shine.

Equipped with LED daytime running lights and powered by a 175 HP, 1.6-litre GDi turbocharged engine, HED-6 gives an indication of the next generation of Hyundai SUVs. Hyundai decided on a global basis to label all low emission vehicles to be launched, starting with i30, under the sub-brand "blue". The i30 produced in Nosovice, Czech Republic, will be the first mass production vehicle to wear the blue label as i30 blue.

Demonstrating the company's commitment to lowering vehicle CO2 emissions and reducing costs for consumers, Hyundai brings ISG (Idle Stop and Go) technology to a production car for the first time. Ideal for city driving, the i30 blue will automatically switch the car's engine off when stationary. The ISG system uses an advanced starter motor connected to the ECU, which monitors the car's status at all times. Remarkably, this technology applied to Hyundai's 1.6-litre petrol engine reduces fuel consumption by 7% on the official combined cycle, while achieving a lower CO2 rating of 142g/km, compared to 152g/km on the regular i30 1.6.

Available in showrooms by mid-year, the i30 blue will come in both five-door hatchback and CW estate body styles and a choice of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines. Following in the footsteps of i30, other models in the Hyundai new-car range will progressively be offered with ISG technology.

2010 Ford Transit Connect

Just ahead of the Chicago Auto Show, Ford has revealed its 2010 Ford Transit Connect for the U.S. market. The previous versions of the compact panel van has been on the market in Europe since 2002. The commercial vehicle will be powered by a 2.0-liter, 138-horsepower four-cylinder motor with the standard four-speed automatic, capable of 24 mpg on the highway. Though not the most exciting reveal of the upcoming Chicago show, the Transit Connect could be important to Ford’s bottom line if it successfully creates a new niche in North America.

2010 Ford Transit Connect-12010 Ford Transit Connect-2Large, fuel-thirsty V8 vans like the E-Series have reigned supreme in the commercial van market for decades, but Ford hopes to capitalize on the success Chrysler has had with the Mercedes-engineered Sprinter. The Transit Connect will be available in four flavors: Van (for cargo hauling) and Wagon (with side windows and bench seats for passenger hauling) in either base XL or more upmarket XLT trim.

According to the leaked specs, the XLTs will add a CD player, optional reverse sensing, power windows and locks and body-colored bumpers. The Wagon will come with standard stability control (optional on both models of the Van) in addition to the bench seats and side windows. Optional on all will be various elements of Ford’s Work Solutions system, which helps commercial users keep track of tools and vehicles via an in-dash computer.

Compared to the European model, changes have been made to the grille – as well as to the front bumper, and possibly a slight alteration to the headlamps. In addition – we have exclusive interior photos – showing an updated look to the aging interior. Changes include rearranging the gauges on the dash, various controls on the steering wheel and new, rounded air vents.

2010 Ford Transit Connect features a Duratec gasoline, despite the fact that the European-spec vehicles displayed in Chicago last year featured diesel motors. The four cylinder/automatic combination is believed to return 19 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, a 40 percent increase over typical full size vans. All models are front-wheel-drive.

Two sliding side doors, vertical 180-degree-opening “barn door” cargo doors, a low floor and a high ceiling differentiate the Transit Connect from its rivals. The XLT model will be available with a 270 degree hinge. Ford claims the vehicles offer 155 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats. The load space can accommodate items up to 6.5 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Rare 1957 Ferrari 250 TR at RM’s Maranello auction

With its stunning pontoon-fendered bodywork sculpted by Scaglietti, the Ferrari 250 TR is not only one of the most beautiful cars ever built, it was one of the most competitive as well. Ferrari captured ten victories in nineteen races from 1958 to 1961, including a class win at Le Mans with Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien.

Those high-end car collectors who remain unaffected by economic woes will have the chance to part with such funds this coming May when a 1957 Ferrari 250 TR, chassis #0714TR, crosses the block at RM Auctions’ Ferrari Leggenda E Passione sale in Maranello.

This particular example was campaigned extensively from 1958 to 1963 and is painted in its period-correct black paint with a red nose. RM expects the 250 TR to set a new world record for a car sold at auction, potentially exceeding the $21.7 million it took to buy a 250 GTO last year. Honda Civic Type R Championship White

For enthusiastic drivers, the Honda Civic Type R never fails to delight and testing the Championship White version was merely an excuse to do it all again. It is also another opportunity to tell anyone who will listen, just what they are missing.

As the name suggests, the emphasis is on white, including the 18-inch Championship White alloys, through which can be seen the Type R brake callipers and come complete with a red Honda logo on the hubs.

Apart from that, the Honda Civic Type R Championship White is distinguishable by body-coloured bumpers, door mirrors, rear spoiler and what is described as lower side, sill garnish. The rear skirt incorporates the two triangular tailpipes and the low, front skirt somehow manages to miss scraping speed bumps. Contrasting smoked chrome finish can be seen on the door handles, fuel cap, badges and an exclusive Type R plaque.

But what does the Championship White represent? Way back in 1992 a certain Ayrton Senna had a hand in developing a race performance version of the NSX, Honda's answer to the Ferrari. The result was the Honda NSX-R and the first Type R was born. It was finished in Championship White paint and the Red 'H' emblem in honour of the first Honda F1 car to win a Grand Prix in 1963, the RA272.

Although the newest version of the Honda Civic Type R, or CTR as it is known in certain circles, went on sale in 2007, the Championship White GT has only just been made available to order (January 2009) and is priced at £20,140 OTR or £21,540 with satellite navigation.

The 'normal' Honda Civic Type R, if you can call it that, is well specified with switchable, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), powered and heated door mirrors, drilled aluminium sports pedals and foot rest, an alloy gear-knob that is very cold to the touch, rake and reach adjustable steering column and driver's seat height adjustment. The GT version adds cruise control, folding mirrors, automatic headlights and wipers, front fogs and dual curtain airbags front and rear, to go with the front and side airbags.

We love seeing spy shots of cars we've never heard of, which is why we were interested in scoping out this Chinese-market Chevy Lova. As you can see for yourself, though, it didn't take much sleuthing to identify the lines as those of the Chevy Aveo, but not exactly the one we're familiar with.

1956 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Murray Pfaff, owner of Pfaff Designs (www.pfaffdesigns.com), is best known as the creator of many of the coolest project vehicle designs (renderings) for other companies and individuals (like Sammy Hagar) to ever grace the pages of major magazines. However, the tables were turned when Pfaff decided to take his classic 1956 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, which he’s owned for 15 years, from rendering to reality, and make it available to his client companies for shows and special events.

Body paint is Glasurit Dark Silver Poly with Ultra-Violet Purple and Ice Pearl flames and scallops and Galaxy Green pin striping. Pfaff designed and laid out the graphics, Charlie Vickerie (Waterford, Michigan) painted it and Jeff Shea (Warren, Michigan) hand striped it.

Interior: PJ’s Trim Shop (Hemlock, Michigan) created the black leather, purple suede and gray leather interior, featuring Nissan bucket seats embossed with Cadillac Eldorado emblems; custom door and dash inserts (by Pfaff); 1960 Cadillac instrument cluster with Classic Instruments gauges; Ididit tilt steering wheel column; modified 1960 Cadillac leather wrapped steering wheel; 2006 Impala center console; custom stainless door sills with embossed leather inserts; overhead console with lights and storage compartment; Vintage Air rear mount AC/heat system; SPAL power windows and remote alarm system; and Painless 18-circuit wiring harness (wired by Tom Gardner).

Engine/Transmission: A 500-horsepower, 500-cubic-inch, V-8 (built by Richard Potter), with a Holley 850 Street Avenger carburetor; custom-machined Offenhauser 365 Cadillac finned aluminum valve covers; polished aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold; MSD 6A ignition; Koken air cleaner; Earl’s braided black lines and fittings; and Tuff Stuff chrome engine accessories. Mated to a TH400 transmission (built by Detroit Gearbox) with a B&M Quicksilver shifter, Coan 2500-rpm stall torque converter and a polished aluminum “devil skull” shift knob.

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback goes for sale in U.S. this summer

Mitsubishi finally announced what we’ve known all along: the five-door Lancer Sportback is coming to the States for the 2010 model year and sales will begin this summer.

One-touch auto-folding rear seats split 60:40 to make room for “active lifestyle” parcels and Mitsubishi dropped the rear cargo area floor by three inches to create 52.7 cubic-feet of space when the rear thrones are folded flat.

The Sportback will be available in two trims, beginning in GTS form and equipped with Mitsubishi’s 168 hp, 2.4-liter inline four mated to either a five-speed manual or CVT with six “virtual” ratios. More importantly, the Sportback will be offered in Ralliart guise, with the detuned Evolution X’s turbocharged 4B11 2.0-liter four putting out 237 hp and 253 lb.-ft. of torque. Power will be doled out to all four wheels through Mitsubishi’s All-Wheel Control (AWC) system with Active Center Differential (ACD), and buyers can opt for either the six-speed Twin Clutch-Sportronic Shift transmission (TC-SST) or CVT gearbox, both of which are manipulated by a set of magnesium-alloy paddle shifters.

Citroen DS Inside concept

The French carmaker has released the first images and details of the Citroen DS Inside concept which illustrates a new product line. The company says the Citroen DS Inside shows a new concept, called Creative Technologie, but the details on the actual vehicle are slim. The Citroen DS Inside also premieres a new naming system for the car manufacturer. The model line up will be called DS3, DS4 and DS5 (DS stands for Different Spirit).

Renewing models and making them significantly better than their predecessors is already an ambitious program. But some customers want deeper-seated changes as mentalities shift from “wanting more” to “wanting better”. The first approach, consisting in satisfying fundamental mobility needs, addresses customers who, having down-sized, are on the look-out for more economical – and more intelligent – products.

Some would describe this as low-cost, but it isn’t. The real challenge for Citroen is designing products that are less expensive but with no loss in appeal. This approach is perfectly illustrated by the Citroen C3 Picasso, a real recession proof car.

In contrast, the second approach favors motoring pleasure, with no loss in practicality. Customers here are looking for outstanding products that confer status and bring them an all-new automotive experience. BMW Alpina B6 GT3

The BMW Alpina B6 GT3 has been unveiled today. This is the car with which the company will make its racing comeback in the FIA GT3 European Championship. Based on the BMW 6 Series, the BMW Alpina B6 GT3 will compete in this series with Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche.

Another round of spy photos have emerged today showcasing the likely-to-arrive-in-2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. As has been the case with all prior 2011 CLS spy shots, the model is still heavily disguised, with little design traits revealed about the next four door coupe.

(from Rafael Reston) "The design of the Viper concept 1967 came from the idea of how the car would be if he had appeared in the 60's to compete with the corvette among others, for example. From that idea, I did a great research on materials and construction techniques of the 60s, so that the car was as faithful as possible to what could be done in 1967. Large circular headlamps, 15in rims, a lot of chrome and surface of the car with enough curves to follow the design trend of the season.

Under the hood, put the 440-MAGNUM which was used in the challenger R/T, but modified to gain some more HP, thus leaving aside the V10, which would, in my view, a bit impractical at the time of production, bringing much the cost of the project and the car impossible to really fight for the super-sports market in 1967.

The options of colors, dominated by warm tones, as in the early 90s viper, with several shades of yellow, red and orange, besides the traditional black (in this case, a black pearls), and traditional colors of the season as blue metallic, dark green and lead, besides the wine, which in my view, identify the viper 1967 and identifies the red today.

In my studies, the basic price of the car in 1967 would be $ 4110 U.S. dollars, making it truly a great competitor to the Chevrolet Corvette." (Rafael Reston reported)

Spend two million bucks on a car, and you'll get to have whatever the hell you want as a horn tone. Alfred DiMora is back, adding more splashy aftermarket items to the list of standard equipment on his Natalia vaporware sport luxury sedan. DiMora Motorcar has decided that the Horntones system will be factory-fitted to every V16 Natalia SLS 2 produced. So far, that's none. This isn't the first time the Natalia has specified an item cherrypicked from SEMA awards, and we suspect it won't be the last.

2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage – Full test

Forget the DBS. Seriously. Compared with that V-12-powered moviestarmobile, the 2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage - updated with a newly enlarged, more potent V-8 -- is easily as quick, lighter and nimbler, and arguably every bit as good-looking. Yet the Vantage sells for about half the price. A larger question remains, though: Do you really want this Aston at all?

Underneath, a newly available Sports Pack adds lightweight forged alloy wheels (19-inchers are now standard on all models) plus stiffer springs and shocks, trading some body roll and ride cushion for flatter cornering and quicker response.

On its first run the Aston had clocked a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.1 seconds and a quarter mile of 12.5 seconds at 115.0 mph, easily bettering the 4.3-liter car's performance (5.2 seconds; 13.6 seconds at 105.8 mph) and even topping the times of the mighty, 520-horse DBS with six-speed automatic (4.2 seconds to 60 mph; 12.6 seconds at 112.3 mph in the quarter). And the Vantage hadn't even revealed its full potential. "Definitely could've gone quicker," said test driver Scott Mortara. "Probably under four seconds to 60." Does the new Sports Pack pay handling dividends? Why, yes: The new Vantage circled our figure-eight course in 24.5 seconds at 0.79 average g, compared with 25.7 seconds at 0.72 g average for the outgoing car.

Aston Martin has upped its game. There's no denying the Vantage's rarity and beauty (lined up with the 911, it looks like a leopard next to an ostrich egg). Nor are there many engines on the planet whose exhaust note alone can convince you that $136,630 is an entirely reasonable sum to pay for an automobile. It's this timbre-the V-8's nerve-chilling shriek above 4000 rpm-that inspires the phrase "the sound of ripping silk." Of course, that's really just another hackneyed auto-journalism cliche. Besides, what the Vantage's V-8 really sounds like is a ripping silk-and-mohair blend. Those in search of spectacular tailoring and engine fireworks will adore this new Aston Martin. Porsche, however, has not a thing to worry about.

2009 Toyota Yaris updated for European Market

In the latest example Toyota has updated the 2009 Yaris for the Euro market. The update includes the availability of a new 1.3-liter engine with a six-speed manual, a minor facelift, and Toyota's Optimal Drive.

2009 Toyota Yaris The new 1.3-liter inline-four (Toyota calls it a 1.33-liter) is borrowed from the iQ mini car. It produces 100 hp and is attached to a six-speed manual transmission. It also boasts start/stop technology that shuts off the engine at idle to save gas. Toyota's Optimal Drive is included as well. This improvement enhances combustion, saves weight and reduces friction all in the name of higher efficiency.

Toyota says the combination achieves 55.4 mpg on the Euro combined cycle. The other two engines available are the gas-powered 1.0-liter three-cylinder, and a 1.4-liter diesel. Just to compare, in the U.S. we're stuck with the lone 1.5-liter four-banger with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. It's just not fair.

Pricing in the UK starts at £8,585 on the road. With the possibility of the iQ coming to the States, perhaps Toyota will consider offering the 1.3-liter as option in the U.S. Until then we'll just have to be jealous.

BMW M7 Rendered

BMW has time and time again denied even considering a 7 Series-based M7 luxury high-performance sedan. That doesn't stop the rumour mill from spinning at high speed though. For sure a twelve-cylinder 760i is under production as proven by spy pictures.

BMW M7But this rendering of a possible BMW M7 may be seen as a nudge to the powers that be by fans that as nice as a 760i might be, it does not replace the craving they experience for something more. The front bumper is certainly M as it resembles other M bumpers from cars like the M5. The side mirrors were strangely left untouched but the wheels got seven double-spoke rims that almost pass as genuine M kit. This artist impression is more like the touch of a feather than a passionate stroke from a Picasso brush.

Sticking with the rumour theme, a BMW M7 would probably use the same 6.0-litre V12 from a 760i and produce in excess of 600hp (441kW) through the use of turbo technology. It would compete with cars like the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG/ S600 and the Audi S8.

2009 Pagani Zonda R new pics

While most newly founded supercar firms promise greatness then recede into the pages of history, Pagani is one brand which has defied the trend, largely thanks to its ostentatious design. As a send-off to the first generation of Zonda supercars, Pagani has created the special-edition 2009 Zonda R - a car which the brand claims is 90 per cent new and completely insane.

With few standard Zonda’s ever venturing out from their pristine garages, street legality was apparently not a consideration for the Zonda R - which will either become the ultimate track-day special or an automotive sculpture in some Saudi oil tycoon’s living room.

Its exterior gives a good indication of the power on hand, with an incredible 551kW and 710Nm available from the AMG-sourced 6.0-litre V12 engine. Weighing in at precisely 1070kg, the Zonda R’s performance is simply staggering, reaching 100km/h in just 2.7 seconds from a standstill - just tenths away from the Veyron - with a top speed of more than 350km/h.

Only 16 examples of the Zonda R are slated for production, 15 of which will be offered to the public at roughly AUD$2.75million with the final model staying with Pagani.

2009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Mercedes-Benz and diesels go together like bratwursts and warm beer - the automaker claims to have built the first ever diesel-powered passenger car. Safe to say, the engineers in Stuttgart know what they're doing when piecing together oil-burning machines like the 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTEC, which features the German automaker's 50-state legal, 3.0L V-6 turbodiesel powerplant rated at 210 hp @ 3800 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque @ 1600 rpm. The engine is also an option for both the GL and R-Class.

2009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class-22009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class-1Given the nature of the ML and the competitive soft-to-mild luxury SUV segment it plays in, none of our staffers was surprised with how it performed in a straight line (0 to 60 mph in 8.1 sec, quarter mile in 16.2 sec @ 84.5 mph). But what did catch us off-guard was how the force-fed the engine felt. Noticeable and distinct, the ML320 BlueTEC always sported the characteristic telltale diesel clatter, especially when coaxed into a torque-induced fury on the quarter-mile tarmac.

When trudging through normal city streets in stop-go rush hour traffic, on back country open roads or on our way up and down slow mountainous twisties, the ML proved comfortable and efficient (we recorded a combined 21.6 mpg during our testing). As is the case with the new breed of 50-state legal diesels, it didn't "act" (or smell) like the dirty, black-plume-spewing cars of yesteryear. Despite the 5073-lb mass it's left to contend with, the BlueTEC powerplant managed to be "plenty peppy and quite refined," as senior editor Ron Kiino noted. It consistently pulled smoothly on our various track runs and daily driving duties, thanks in part to Benz's refined seven-speed 7G-tronic transmission.

When an opening in traffic did appear out of the blue (pun intended), we made sure to properly play around with the ML's many creature comforts. Its adjustable Airmatic suspension appropriately firmed in Sport mode soaked up all minor pavement imperfections in Comfort. In true Mercedes-Benz fashion, our optional leather package luxuriously covered almost every exposed surface (seats, dash, doors, console). But even the supple leather couldn't make up for our frustrations we had with the finicky COMAND infotainment system and less-than-chic cabin layout.

Simply, the ML320 BlueTEC is just that: simple and unassuming. But at the same time, it's satisfyingly efficient, well-appointed, and, of course, always recognizable as a Mercedes-Benz. Capable of actually being used in a towing/hauling/carrying situation? Check. The powertrain is always ready to unleash its smile-inducing torque, while the 3.0L six should prove plenty sturdy thanks to the vast experience its diligent engineers have amassed since pre-WWII. And now, much like those tasty brats and beer, emissions output and fuel efficiency can finally go together as well.

2009 Honda DN-01 Exclusive Test Ride

Honda is known for quite a number of breakthrough motorcycle designs—icons like the original CB750, the CBX (a groundbreaking six-cylinder) and, of course, the Goldwing. Clearly, the company isn't afraid to spearhead new directions in motorcycling. And the radical new DN-01 is certainly a unique direction. Honda DN-01 is a crossover of sorts—part cruiser, part scooter. At the heart of the bike is an automatic transmission developed for and borrowed from the Honda Fourtrax Foreman Rubicon ATV—a hydro-mechanical system called HFT that provides two fully automatic ranges along with a manually operated "six-speed" system for sporty riding.

2009 Honda DN-012009 Honda DN-01 is powered by a new 60-hp, 680 cc, 52-degree V-twin engine. It's liquid-cooled, fueled by Honda's proprietary PGM-FI system and delivers 47 lb-ft of torque at 6000 rpm. The DN-01 has a shaft final drive to eliminate all the maintenance and mess typically associated with chains. The HFT transmission is a dual swash-plate device, where the engine-side swash plate acts upon a series of hydraulic cylinders, transferring pressure to the output swash plate. By controlling the angle of the plates, Honda can vary the speed relationship between the input and the output.

Tipping the scales at 595 pounds with all fluids and a full tank of fuel, the DN-01 is lighter than most cruisers and heavier than comparable sportbikes, but is well up to the task of beating traffic away from a stoplight. Its suspension geometries also fall somewhere between those of cruisers and sportbikes, lending the bike a decent balance between straight-line stability and responsive steering. The DN-01 wears large 11.6-in. front brake rotors gripped by two three-piston calipers and a 10.9-in. rear disc with a dual-piston caliper. With Honda's combined brake system, application of the rear brake also activates the center piston on the left-side front brake caliper to balance the motorcycle. Pressure at the front brake lever applies the remaining five front brake pistons for maximum effect. ABS is fitted as a standard.

Even as cruisers go, the DN-01 is remarkably easy to ride. The seat height is a low 27.2-in. and it has none of the overwhelming mass of the big models. One can maneuver the DN-01 confidently at low speeds. At the same time, it is flat, compliant, precise and easy to read in its responses to steering inputs. As with many cruisers, the limited ground clearance afforded by the forward-mounted floorboards curtails cornering speeds. But unlike most, the DN-01 feels sure-footed enough to exceed those speeds comfortably, were it not for the sound of skittering floorboard feelers.

Unlike CVT-equipped machines, the DN-01 starts in neutral, and can be revved freely. When you wish to proceed, a rocker switch at the rider's right hand must be depressed to engage drive. The bike reverts to neutral when switched off, so the DN-01 will roll on any sort of grade unless the handy parking brake is applied. In the end it's the price that poses the biggest question. At $14,599 the DN-01 isn't exactly a bargain in the motorcycle world. Italian-bred 1000 cc Ducatis cost this much. But the DN-01 is also not super-expensive by cruiser standards, particularly when you look at the list of features. There's the automatic transmission, the combined brakes, ABS and Honda's transparent programmed fuel injection.

Miranda-Series, car tuning firm from Germany, has unveiled its tuning package for the BMW M3 E92 known as the Red Devil.

The Miranda-Series BMW M3 E92 Red Devil stands on 9×19-inch wheels at the front and 11×19-inch wheels at the rear wrapped with 235/35-19 and 305/25-19 tires respectively.

Car makers seem to have made an annual pilgrimage to the winter testing zone in northern Scandinavia, this time with the face lifted Range Rover Sport caught on camera.

For 2009, the new Range Rover Sport is expected to feature new headlamps, a modified grill and updated tail lights - merely subtle changes to tune the design.

2010 Honda Insight – Video

With respect to the 2010 Honda Insight, Honda is guilty of copying no one but itself.
The Toyota Prius has this very arrangement. But so did the 2000-'06 Honda Insight and the 1988-'91 Honda CRX before it. That the 2010 Insight looks this way is no accident, because Yasunari Seki, chief engineer for the 2010 Honda Insight, made his name at Honda while working on the CRX HF. And that's just what the 2010 Honda Insight is, more or less: a hybrid version of the late Honda CRX HF, but with four doors, room for five passengers, up-to-date safety features and modern conveniences.

Honda wants the 2010 Insight to be affordable enough for almost anyone. And it wants the Insight to be the kind of hybrid that provides measureable benefits without introducing day-to-day eccentricities. To these ends, Honda has not developed an all-new hybrid system with dual electric motors and a complex series-parallel arrangement, like a Prius.

Official pricing is not due until we get closer to the new Insight's release date of April 22, 2009 (yes, that's Earth Day). But the base LX model's price is expected to come in well under $18,000. We figure that this fully optioned 2010 Honda Insight EX-Navi (EX with navigation) should cost less than $22,500 — at least $5,000 below a comparable Prius.

2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 - Video

If the Corvette ZR1 revels in new science, the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 goes in the opposite direction and catapults the driver back into the sights, sounds and sensual pleasures of the muscular, knock-off-the-crap Sixties. This is a car for people (i.e., nearly all of us) who missed a chance to buy a Cobra Daytona Coupe — and drive it to breakfast. The Viper is about as subtle as a punch in the mouth, but a lot more fun.

This is not to imply that the car's hard-hitting honesty is technically archaic in any way — only that a thematic choice has been made. And when some modern marvel — such as dynamic stability control — seems superfluous to the Viper's rugged personality, it's simply deleted. This is a car you drive with the human brain and foot — though it's more fun if you favor the foot.



Especially when it's connected to an 8.4-liter V-10 rated at an even 600 bhp at 6100 rpm, with 560 lb.-ft. of torque on tap at 5000 rpm. Not as uncannily smooth as the Corvette's watch-like V-8, the Viper V-10 gives you the visceral impression — and sound — of big pistons hitting hard, with each combustion stroke carrying the car a fair distance down the road. Some of that big-bang sensation comes from very tall gearing. You could drive this car all of your life in the first four gears without much inconvenience. In 5th and 6th the car is just idling at legal highway speeds; it wants to go at least 100 mph, and then just keep going. Like a fighter after takeoff, it isn't meant to stay in the traffic pattern. As ex-racer Steve Millen said in an earlier test, "the harder you run it, the better it is."

An ideal cross-country GT car it's not, but on the twisty back roads it works pretty well. Grip is excellent — if a little busy over mid-corner bumps — and the balance is good. Steering kickback is less filtered than with the other cars, but there's a satisfying sense of driving the car with your own seat-of-the-pants instincts. It'll generate over 1.0g of grip on the skidpad and get through the slalom almost as fast as the Ferrari 599, so you've got plenty of traction to work with. And tons of power from this naturally aspirated ohv V-10 — unique to this group. Its sub-100-grand price tag is also unique.

Mazda plans to debut two new models of the all-new Mazda3 (called Axela in Japanat the coming Geneva International Motor Show, one environmentally friendly and the other enthusiast friendly. Acura Can Bring Back NSX project

Despite having killed the NSX project late last year due to tanking industry sales, Honda says it could still revive the NSX in the future.

NSX projectDick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda, said in an interview that the NSX could still be revived because "the development is mostly done." Honda is working to reassure dealers who were concerned when it cancelled plans to make the next-generation sports car.

Acura is sticking to its plan of becoming a Tier 1 luxury automaker without sacrificing its value image. "Being a premium luxury brand is not just about product. It's the way dealers handle customers. You've got to earn your way into the segment. You don't necessarily need a $90,000 sedan to get there."

Along with the NSX, Honda cancelled development of its rear-wheel drive V-8 platform for Acura. The Japanese automaker's luxury brand has also taken flack for the styling direction it introduced last year with the introductions of the new TSX, TL and RL. Acura's sales dropped 15 percent last year compared with 2007.

Hulme CanAm - New Zealand supercar

Jock Freemantle has revealed the consumer-ready version of his toy for the first time at the A1GP racing event in Taupo, NZ.

Hulme CanAmEventhough the Hulme looks more like an Ariel Atom or Ford’s 1996 Indigo concept, Freemantle says his bare-bones racer competes with the best from Ferrari and Lamborghini. That may be a good thing considering the Hulme has a price tag of $360,000 (about 700,000 NZ dollars). Then again, the car may be able to back up those claims. The Hulme CanAm (named after motor racing legend Denny Hulme) is powered by a 7.0-liter Chevrolet V8 engine with 600 hp and a claimed top speed of 198 mph.

The car has positive energy on its side. "I’ve been called stupid and a bloody idiot and I haven’t got a hope in hell of doing it," Freemantle says about the success of the Hulme. "I don’t answer people like that. You just have to ignore people who are negative." In the world of fast cars, we can’t argue with that.

Ford Focus RS in action – Video

Ford released a new promotional video of the Ford Focus RS to help give the Europeans a little more detail on the car, but it also taunts us in the U.S. with a hot hatch we can’t have. Because the Focus RS is powered by a 2.5-liter 20-valve DOHC engine that delivers 300 hp at 6500 and a peak torque of 440 NM (325 lb-ft.), we were hoping that Ford was at least going to show us a little front wheel burnout.

Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid

The Touareg hybrid should be available come next year, according to announcements from Volkswagen. The company will further expand its BlueMotion ecological range with this sports utility, which will add to the ever-widening range of hybrid vehicles available on the market.

Volkswagen Touareg HybridThe Volkswagen sports utility will be the first hybrid engine vehicle from the company, equipped with a V6 TSI and a 52hp electric motor, for a combined performance of 333hp. A new eight-speed automatic transmission will also feature, resulting in consumption of about nine litres per 100km.

Use of only the electric engine allows for speeds below 50 km/hr, while on full power (or boost mode) performance results in 374 hp and 550 Nm. More additions to the Volkswagen hybrid offering will take place in 2010, with the expansion of the Passat range, including an EcoFuel option of petrol-natural gas combination capable of 150hp and running 100 km with only 4.5 litres of petrol.

A BlueTDI engine will also emerge with 140 hp and consuming only 5.2 litres per 100km. The last engine option in development is the BlueMotion with start&stop technology, saving energy when stopping. All this should see a comprehensive ecological offering from Volkswagen within a year.

2010 Volvo XC60 T6

The small luxury crossover segment promises to be one of the hottest this year. BMW pioneered the trend six long years ago with the X3. And now, the Mercedes-Benz GLK is touching down at dealers. The Audi Q5 will be in stores within a month or two as well. So in just five years, this group has swelled to six. What makes the XC60 stand apart from the crowd? Well, since it is a Volvo—inventor of the three-point seatbelt—safety, of course. Volvo says the XC60 is the safest car the company has ever produced. And considering Volvo's reputation, that's some statement.

Beneath the XC60's attractive sheetmetal is the 281-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged straight Six, sending 295 lb-ft of torque to a slick six-speed automatic transmission. The power is proportioned to each wheel by a new Haldex permanent all-wheel drive system. Volvo says the XC60 can hit 60 mph in a tick over 7 seconds and return around 22 mpg on the highway.

The interior follows in Volvo's tradition of using cool Scandinavian design, mixed with clever ergonomics. The handsome "floating" center stack has a brushed aluminum face as standard, light Nordic oak as an option. Leather trim is standard and there are optional children's booster seats. Rear head- and legroom is more than adequate, while the second-row seating also folds flat into the floor for practical load space. Volvo has culled through research and determined that 75 percent of all accidents occur at speeds under 19 mph—those little bumper-to-bumper nudges in traffic. These accidents may not be life threatening, but they are sometimes expensive, not to mention distressing and time-consuming. Volvo's City Safety system uses laser sensors that can detect an object up to 18 ft in front of the car and will activate the brakes automatically to avoid a collision or at least make contact less catastrophic. Potential buyers will be able to test the City Safety feature at Volvo dealers. And yes, it can be de-activated.

The XC60 will start at $37,200 when it goes on sale next month. And there is a full array of electronics: Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, satellite radio, plus the option of a swankier stereo—a 650-watt, 12-speaker version with Dolby Pro-Logic II Surround. Anyone yearning for a diesel or hybrid version will have to wait until next year—for now, this is the only XC60.

More performance, a complete aerodynamics kit, finest leather in the interior and an exclusive varnish are the hallmarks of the new roadster from the Merzig-based company.

Carlsson, the automobile manufacturer specialised on Mercedes Benz models, invigorates the eight-cylinder with significantly more performance. Although the cubic capacity with 6,208 cc has not been changed, the refined power engine renders up to 600 hp (441 kW) instead of the serial 525 hp (386 kW) with the AMG.

Also the maximum torque rises from 630 Newton metres at 5,200 rpm to 705 at 5,100 rpm. With the Carlsson refinement, the sprint from zero to a hundred only takes 4.1 seconds and is therefore half a second faster than the AMG-model. The acceleration is electronically limited at respectable 325 km/h instead of 250 km/h.

In order to convey the power of the engine to the road, an extensive aerodynamic kit presses the CK63 RS onto the tar and provides an optimal grip. The air which is aspirated at the car front flows out through specially formed outlets at the car wings. Front apron and rear diffuser are made of polyurethane (PU) and are refined with carbon fibre elements which direct the air-flows for the best possible road grip.

2009 Ducati Monster 1100

2009 Ducati Monster 1100 follows hard on the heels of the new, second-generation Ducati Monster 696 we rode recently—a machine that put everyone on notice about what Ducati can do when it has enough money and motivation.

2009 Ducati Monster 1100The first-generation Monster was developed (way back in 1993) in order to provide the company with an entry-level model that would increase overall sales as much as it might lend impetus to the European naked-bike fad. The Monster quickly became the factory's bread-and-butter product, easily outselling everything else in Ducati's model range. That first Monster was a bit of a parts-bin special, using available frames and engines to cut the cost of the gamble. In contrast, the new Monster was unique from the outset, and that allowed the designers to make important improvements.

This 1100 version of the new Monster benefits from a 1078 cc engine that has cylinders shared with the Multistrada and Hypermotard models, but with crankcases cast in a new vacuum process that loses about 6.5 pounds of mass. There's a new Siemens fuel-injection system on the Monster 1100 that uses what Ducati calls combined Alpha-n and speed-density air-measurement technology to improve part-throttle operation. Alpha-n is a dyno-generated airflow model (in the computer) that takes over in circumstances where airflow meters (MAF) tend to err.

Rated at 95 hp at 7500 rpm and 79.5 lb-ft of torque at 6000 rpm, the 1100 is noticeably more muscular than its 696 sibling, capable of second-gear wheelies with just a twist of the grip. The trellis-type frame is borrowed directly from the 696, but there is an all-new aluminum single-side swing arm locating the rear wheel. A fully adjustable inverted Showa fork is used up front, with a Sachs shock at the rear. That's on normal 1100 models—1100 S-models will wear high-end Öhlins suspension components. Tire sizes are up slightly from the 696, and the Bridgestone BT-016 hoops fitted to the 1100 are 120/70-17 on the front and 180/55-17 on the rear.

A tight-fitting cowl on the rear part of the seat makes the bike look like a monoposto model, but it's easily removed to accommodate a pillion passenger seat. The same instrument panel we know from the 696 reveals engine speed by way of a liquid-crystal analog arc, and road speed with a typical seven-segment digital readout. It provides trip-computer functions like travel time, air temperature and scheduled maintenance reminders. Because the new-generation Monster now has a steering-angle range improved to 64 degrees lock-to-lock, it's much easier to maneuver at low speeds, making it better suited to heavy traffic and confined spaces.

€380,000 Rolls-Royce 4

Rolls-Royce 4 would make the car something special indeedб the car will cost €380,000. If true, that would make it the second priciest car in the Rolls-Royce line-up, with only the Phantom LWB a scant €20,000 ahead of it. Rolls-Royce CEO Tom Purves did say that the newest model would be "more expensive than any Bentley," but we don't think he meant that expensive.

Rolls-Royce 4-2Rolls-Royce 4-1The actual price will probably be around half of that, €190,000 in Europe, $250,000 or so in the U.S. In addition to coupe and convertible variants to follow its introduction, the car is slated to fit a wide range of powerplants for a Roller: BMW's V12 and turbocharged V8 are in the picture, and diesel and hybrid lumps are on the table. And soon we won't need to call it by its codename any more; the car is rumored to wear the Silver Ghost moniker.

2011 McLaren P11 Spied

The McLaren shop will have some build space to fill soon, and this is the car that will occupy it. Initial reports had the car debuting later in 2009, perhaps at the Frankfurt auto show, but now others are suggesting that the first public viewing will be delayed until sometime in 2010, with production to begin in 2011.

2011 McLaren P11 Spied-32011 McLaren P11 Spied-22011 McLaren P11 Spied-1Intended as a competitor to the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and Ferrari F430, the upcoming McLaren—code-named P11—will be powered by a mid-mounted V-8 rumored to be sourced from Mercedes-Benz and producing 550 hp or more. Although reports suggest turbocharging is a possibility, the 6.2-liter AMG V-8 manages up to 518 hp from the factory, so turbos aren’t a necessity unless McLaren is aiming for, say, 600 hp. A V-10 has also been mentioned as a possibility, but that power level would probably be well within reach for a force-fed version of the 6.2-liter. Zero-to-60-mph times should be below four seconds, and top speed is expected to exceed 200 mph.

Nothing is known yet about the gearbox, but we expect to see an F1-style, paddle-shifted sequential manual, and witnesses report hearing mules rip off lightning-quick shifts. Through extensive use of carbon-fiber construction, the P11 is expected to weigh in at around 2500 pounds, giving it a power-to-weight ratio far superior to its proposed competition—just 4.5 pounds per horsepower, compared to 6.9 and 6.1 for the Ferrari and Lamborghini, respectively.

The price of entry is rumored to be anywhere from $215,000 to upwards of $290,000. With the cost of F1 racing—McLaren’s other primary business—spiraling ever higher and the residual cachet the company name still carries from the McLaren F1 of the ’90s, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the price settle towards the higher end of that scale.

2010 Porsche Cayenne SUV spied

Porsche engineers certainly have their hands full, with virtually every model in the Porsche line-up spied during development recently, and the new generation Cayenne SUV is no exception. Contrary to earlier media speculation, this is not a smaller brother to the Cayenne tipped to carry the Roxster namesake, but rather the Cayenne itself.

The motivation behind this is to speed up development of the Cayenne because of fears of the worsening demand for thirsty SUVs and rising oil prices.

With the current Cayenne set to flounder under these market conditions, the new model will be much more fuel-efficient and will feature a new hybrid model and a diesel in its line-up. As a result, both the new Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg are expected to make their debut in 2010, although a replacement for Audi’s Q7 SUV isn’t anticipated until 2013.

ASMA Design Perfectus Mercedes SLR

ASMA Design reckons they have perfected the art of tuning, a Mercedes-Benz SLR 722. ASMA calls this black supercar the Perfectus SLR. Using carbon fiber material for the body and a 5.4-litre V8, ASMA has been able to draw out a maximum power output number of 515kW (700hp) out of the SLR. Torque is 885Nm made at 3,300rpm. McLaren Mercedes themselves could only manage 478kW (650hp) from the same powerplant out of the SLR 722 Edition.

The standard 5-speed automatic gearbox is mated to the Perfectus with performance figures stated as 3.5 seconds for the 0 - 100km/h sprint and 348km/h for the top speed. ASMA says the car will return an average fuel consumption of 19.8 litres per 100km.

The custom carbon fiber bodywork has been used to the effect of not only keeping weight down but also showing how the material can be sculpted with sharp lines and slits particularly at the front.

2010 BMW X1 - spy video

This 2010 BMW X1 spy video was released by the Bavarian carmaker and shows the new model being tested in the snow. The BMW X1 wears heavy camouflage, but, as seen from the clip, it will be a lot of fun in the snow. The car seems to behave like a sports sedan and allows for a little drifting in the fresh powder snow. The company has not released any information about the engines or gearbox options that will be available for the new BMW X1.

Audi R8 V10 pricing

The Ingolstadt carmaker has announced today the Audi R8 V10 price for the German market, which gives a possible cost range for the whole Europe.

Audi R8 V10The new, and more powerful version of the R8, the Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro, develops 525 hp and 530 Nm of torque from a 5.2 liter V10 engine. It's top speed is 316 km/h (196.35 mph) and the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is 3.9 seconds. The gearbox choices for the new Audi R8 5.2 FSI include a 6-speed manual and a sequential R tronic transmission with Launch Control.

The Audi R8 V10 price starts at 142,400 Euros on the German market where it will go on sale in the second quarter of 2009.

Aston Martin Rapide Images

Today, Aston Martin released the two sharpest renderings of its production-ready Rapide to date. Where the previous images of the car were dark and harder to distinguish, these latest renderings are bright and easier to read.

From the former renderings and spy shots we've been able to confirm the sexy sedan's seductive shape. We like the front end's snarling guise and the One-77-esque hood vents. We already know that the back end slightly resembles the Vantage, and we approve of that too.

What we dislike is the fact that Aston hasn't told us when we will see the four-seat sedan in person. We expect that the car may be unveiled at the 2009 Geneva motor show in March.

2010 Volkswagen Golf R Series Turbo

In the recent past, VW’s answer for power junkies has been the R32—a GTI with a 3.2-liter V-6 shoehorned into its engine compartment. Heavier than the GTI and equipped with all-wheel drive, the R32 failed to deliver significant performance improvements despite its 250-hp rating. We liked it, but were disappointed by the marginal performance benefits over the base GTI.

2010 Volkswagen Golf R Series TurboMeet the new 2010 Volkswagen R-series Golf. It will feature basically the same direct-injection 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that you find in the GTI, tuned to an impressive 270 hp. Power will be transmitted to all wheels. Zero-to-60 times should be in the low- to mid-fives, and while the regular GTI tops out at a drag-limited 149 mph, the new R version will hit its governor at 155, with a theoretical top speed 10 mph or so higher.

Unlike the R32, the new R model will offer performance greater than the GTI’s, with the slightly increased weight and resistance of the AWD system easily offset by the leap in power and torque. Essentially, the Golf R features the Audi S3’s powertrain. We have driven that car extensively; think WRX performance combined with Audi refinement. It’s worth noting that the new Golf MkVI, upon which this R version will be based, is more sophisticated than the Audi A3/S3.

The exterior of what we believe will be called R20 Turbo is distinguished from the GTI by an even more aggressive front spoiler, complete with three distinct air intakes, a more aggressive rear spoiler, and two center-exit exhaust pipes. Three doors will be standard, but VW will most likely also offer a five-door variation. Our artist’s renderings show a possible look for the three-door R20.

This ultimate Golf will go on sale in Germany in late 2009, and after some internal back and forth, VW has decided to offer the R model in America.

VW will first show the R-series Golf on May 21 at the ADAC 24-hour race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Volkswagen will also launch an R version of the sporty, Golf-based Scirocco. Equipped with the same engine as the R20, it will be front-wheel-drive. Torque steer will be managed by an electronic differential VW calls XDS—and a prayer.

2010 Mercedes GLK350 4MATIC

The five-passenger Mercedes GLK-Class launches as a 2010 model, but the 4MATIC model is available now, and the base rear-wheel drive GLK350 appears at dealers in April. The GLK is slotted as the new compact entry-level SUV for Mercedes, with a price point to match. Upgrading to the M-Class increases the MSRP by $13K, and the GL-Class adds $24K over the GLK.

2010 Mercedes GLK350 4MATICWithout spending any extra money on options, a buyer is looking at standard features such as 19-inch aluminum wheels with all-season tires, dual chrome exhaust tips, roof rails, Bluetooth, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control adaptive brakes, six airbags and Agility Control suspension.

What isn’t included are some fairly basic features I’d expect at a luxury level. However, this à la cart menu is typical of a Mercedes. Here’s a heads up for you on some of those items you’ll have to pay extra for: an iPod integration kit ($375), park assist ($790), heated front seats ($740) and any color of exterior paint other than red, white or black ($720). The test vehicle was the 4MATIC version, which was greatly appreciated in this hideous weather we’ve been having. Base price with the all-wheel drive is $36,775, and believe me, for an extra $2K over the base model, it’s so worth it.

Powering the GLK is a 3.5-liter V-6, and this engine is superb. It delivers 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Mated to the seven-speed transmission, the power is smooth seamless and fast. Fast to the tune of 6.5 seconds for a 0-to-60-mph time. Not bad for a 4,036-pound vehicle.

2009 Mazda MX5 Miata in US

Mazda announced that the 2009 Mazda MX5 Miata will debut in US at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. The 2009 Mazda MX5 Miata comes with a re-styled exterior, enhanced performance and improved fuel efficiency. The US version of the 2009 Mazda MX5 Miata is powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that outputs 167 hp and comes with an improved suspension.

The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10® is the ultimate American sports car and the icon of the Dodge brand. For 2009, the Dodge Viper SRT10 offers the outrageous power expected, with an 8.4-liter 600-horsepower (450 kW) V-10 engine contributing to blistering acceleration (0-60 mph in less than four seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the low 12-second range), setting an American sports car benchmark.

2009 Dodge Viper SRT10-22009 Dodge Viper SRT10-1A dramatic hood featuring a larger, more efficient hood scoop for air induction and functional hood louvers to facilitate a greater cooling effect enhance Viper’s bold, aggressive looks. Viper design hallmarks, including deep-cut side scallops, swept-back fenders, lowered hood lines and the signature Dodge crosshair grille remain.

The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 will be available in four new exterior colors: Anaconda Green Pearl Coat, Graphite Metallic Clear Coat, Diamond Black Pearl Coat and Viper Bright White Clear Coat.

The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10’s deep-skirted V-10 aluminum block features 8.4 liters (510 cubic inches) and generates 600 horsepower (450 kW) and 560 lb.-ft. (760 N•m) of torque. And all the power is compliant with stringent regulatory requirements, such as federal Tier 2, Bin 5 and California’s Low Emission Vehicle (LEV II) mandates.

The 2009 Viper SRT10 engine features cylinder heads equipped with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC)-shaped combustion chambers, larger valves and Variable Valve Timing (VVT) featuring award-winning CamInCam® technology. The VVT application used in the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 electronically adjusts when the exhaust valves are opened and closed according to engine speed and load, allowing the engine to “breathe” more cleanly and efficiently.
